Livonia community sends love to beloved 'Santa Jack' in hospice

I figured some of you might know Santa Jack and write one more letter to Santa. The guy is a local legend.

He even had business cards that said Santa so when a kid saw him outside of Santa duties and asked if he was Santa he slipped them a business card and gave them a wink.

Fouled spark plug on a 2013 muzzled odyssey any suggestions?

Muzzled around 150k miles.

Currently at 192k miles.

Should I just give up?

What are some other fixes?

I took it into the mechanic and he said he could put in new spark plugs but he said they would likely foul again

Odyssey movie is out today who is going to see it at the celebration imax?

I’m looking for feedback from folks after they see the movie. Im in Detroit and planning to see it on a local IMAX, bur Celebration Cinema in GR supports the 70mm format, and our local one doesn’t.

So, let me know if you think seeing the film in proper 70mm format is worth it. I like big awesome movies so even if it’s not “worth the trip” for most people it might be for me!

Microbiology PhD / associate research scientist looking to leave. Any suggestions?

Not me, my husband.

He’s done rare disease genetics research at university of Michigan for 15 years. He’s an associate research scientist. Plenty of first author papers. Funding at the lab ends at the end of the year and he says there are no possible jobs after this, like he says he’s going to go work at Lowe’s.

I’m like “I Don’t believe you that the only thing you are qualified for is entry level retail” but he insists this is all he can do after the lab closes.

I don’t know anything about his field, at least not enough to help.

We can’t move out of Michigan. I have a good job, we have three kids, our family is here. I need him to like…make some money. Not huge money, definitely more than minimum wage though.

I’m glad this show stars some amazing older actors

Steven Root as Wyck -age 74

Dale Dickey as Rosemary - age 64

K Callan as Ruth ( she’s 90!)

Maybe it’s because I’m getting on in years, but seeing these folks just SLAY in their roles and get recognition for it is such a treat.

Will some enterprising New England town put a Pattiwagon in their town square? Who else wants a Widows Bay shooting locations road trip?

I want to go for an inaugural swim!

Who else wants to do a road trip to Massachusetts to see the filming locations?

I already love little towns like Widows Bay and if some enterprising businessman or woman (who is an appropriate age) set up a Pattiwagon outside and hosted Sunset cocktails at a pop up bar (or existing bar) in one of those towns I don’t think a single adult responsibility could keep me from going.

Would you like a New England widows Bay trip? What would you like to see?

Are used cars even worth it nowadays?

Been shopping for cars.

Used cars with low mileage don’t seem that much less than new cars and the financing on new cars is generally better.

Are they any deals left in used market world or, if you’re someone like me who just wants something safe, reliable and easy, should I just get new?

Convince me to resist the parental urge to buy my teen drivers a decommissioned military tank as a daily driver

Three teen drivers. Two are 18yo girls away at college most of the year and one is 15yo boy still in high school, soon to have a license.

Our “fleet” is old on purpose - to save on car payments and also we live in Michigan and car insurance is awful especially when you add teen drivers. Because of that we deliberately drive older cars that are not worthy insuring for collision. With that, any decent car will likely add $200/month to insurance alone I am estimating.

We have four cars in the fleet

2009 Dodge Avenger with 110k miles (it was free)
2014 Odyssey with 188k miles
2013 Honda Civix with 165k miles
2011 Honda Civic Coupe with 125k miles

I FREAK OUT (internally, sometimes externally) every time the girls drive anywhere more than ten minutes from home. They usually take one of the civics. All cars are in good working order, new brakes, tires, headlights, etc. All kids are very responsible and absolutely do not use their phones while driving.

I would like to purchase a decommissioned tank. I’m told this might not be practical, looking for other suggestions.

Safety, reliability and price (their college is several hours from home) are the most important things.

Safe, heavy, new cars are very expensive. Pretend this is Wheel of Fortune and I already have on the board Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Mazda3 so no need to suggest those. Any other good options?

Considering EV bolt, as there seems to be some good deals on that and it’s ranked very safe and we have a home.

Price range is $10 - $25k. We all actually drive very little, less than 10k miles / year. Would also consider a lease.

I don’t want to be car broke but also I can’t handle the stress of them in old cars!

Midnights Basketball is back for the summer in Detroit

There was talk here a few weeks ago during the “Teen takeovers” downtown about a lack of third spaces in the city and this was one of the solutions the city proposed. Anyway, this looks like a good time, and there are other activities too so let the teens in your life know about it. And let’s have a great summer!

Mom here finally taking her teenage kids to a tigers game! Please help me be the cool mom who knows cool things*

Which game? Where should we sit? Should we buy hot dogs? Eat dinner beforehand? Ride the QLine over? I want the whole event of it to be a good time!

They don’t particularly care about fireworks or giveaways so I think they could take it or leave with those aspects, we just want the whole experience to be fun.

Bringing some of their friends too so the pressure for a good time is high!

*I know, I know, I’ll never be THAT cool but I want to try!

My kids are home from college and have never been to Gigi’s. We were talking about drag shows and they said they should take me to one for Mother’s Day. I haven’t been to Gigi’s in ages but we (my friends and I) used to go there in our 20s. We always had a good time back then (granted, I didn’t go with my mother).

I’m still friends with the people I used to go to Gigi’s with. My kids babysit their little kids. If we went to Gigi’s, we would all go - me, my friends, my 18 year old kids, their friends.

I even was the designated driver for a friends birthday party while I was pregnant with the same twins who I would be taking! And Nikki Stevens was the MC then. Feels really full circle I guess!

Anyway, still a good time? Would this be too weird?

I like to listen to podcasts while I’m cleaning but I don’t want it to be engrossing or something that if I miss a few minutes I’m behind on the story.

My fave podcast is If Books Could Kill, but I have to pay attention to that one. I like that the guys are funny and I like that Michael Hobbes talks fast and is snarky.

The closest I have found to this mindlessness is the Caleb Hammer podcast - it’s just trashy enough to be interesting but it’s also unoriginal and so I don’t really care if I am vacuuming and miss parts.

I prefer mindless chatter over music in the background while I clean.
