Vacation in Indiranagar (I live in Indiranagar too)

I feel sad sharing this but it did turn out to be a decent experience. Basically job’s been crazy, too much work and it has been impossible for me to squeeze in a vacation which I had been delaying for long. Desperate times called for desperate measures and I decided to just fuck it have the vacation here itself lol.

5 days of living out of a hotel, their breakfast, some evening socialising - it was ultimately and surprisingly a very enjoyable experience. Even met some tourists and people traveling on work. Ofc I didn’t tell them that I live here (jeez what a loser i’d seem). XD

Pecos appreciation post (and looking for fellow rock fans ig)

First of all, I feel that most people who’re into rock must already be familiar with Pecos but just putting it out here anyway - being at this bar makes me feel like a lead character in a Murakami short story. You know, one of those western protagonists in urban Japan who listen to the beatles and play metal on the car radio. It’s kinda funny that in that particular brewery heavy neighbourhood, this is the one bar with the shittiest options for beers but the most amazing goddamn playlist ever.

I haven’t really tried the food here as much but their desi chicken wings goes really well with the beer and music. As much as I like to frequent it tho, I really feel that this is not one of my typical solo visit places that I can sit in with just a book (I really love Windmills for that). The place first of all is dingy and dark (in all the good rock aesthetic ways) and second, even if there was enough light, you could never focus on the reading because of its amazing music.

Anyhoo. If you like rock and metal, I would love to get in touch with you. I think rock fans in Indiranagar could definitely use some company visiting here! :)

Anyone in Indiranagar with great and fancy handwriting? I’ll pay you to write a letter

Edit: Found someone

Hi folks,

I’m looking for someone with exceptional handwriting for a letter that I need to send out next month. It has to be pristine. Unfortunately my own handwriting sucks and a handwritten letter in it would be more offensive than a thoughtful gesture. Willing to pay.

Took someone from this sub to the hospital this morning. For folks living alone, please have emergency contacts

Okay, so this might have been the strangest morning of all mornings in Indiranagar. Today, I saw a post from a fellow resident in a poorly typed manner asking where to go if they think they’re having a stroke. At first I wasn’t able to understand what was written but since it mentioned a stroke, I thought it to run it through AI.

When I texted them asking if they’re okay, they just sent their number. I found it extremely sketchy and wouldn’t have called but it genuinely felt that they’re struggling to text.

I called them up, turned out to be a close neighbour and a person in real distress. I asked them to just come downstairs, put a couple of stops and after the hospital visit, they’re fine now w an IV drip.

But something that really baffled me was that this person is living in Indiranagar for 7 months and yet 0 emergency contacts. No friends in the locality and never once spoken to neighbours.

Her closest emergency contact is a Delhi-based family member.

Anyway, what I want to say is emergencies like these can happen anytime. Please have some emergency contacts around because last minute help from reddit / instagram is very co incidental and may not always work. And if someone has directory of hospitals’ numbers or something that can be kept handy, please share 🙏

My 1 year anniversary in Indiranagar. I came here w nothing but a few books and 4 pairs of outfits.

I moved into Indiranagar this day last year. And this might be the first time I’m celebrating an anniversary of moving into a place but good god it has been incredible. 1 year back, I was laid off from my previous company (right before 5 year gratuity was supposed to arrive) and then found something in Bangalore. I spent all my money in booking flight tickets, got a huge personal loan to pay security for my new house, and hardly had any cash on me.

It’s been such a roller coaster ride since then - I have met some of the most amazing people in the neighbourhood, had some of the finest culinary experiences and got to learn so much.

This was also the first time for me living on my own. Since college, I’ve either lived with flatmates or my partner. Following my layoff and the move to Bangalore, I had a terminal rough patch w my partner and I was petrified about having to sustain all by myself.

Tho I found that all that fear was just holding me back from living my best life. I have experienced self agency for the first time and it’s a beautiful thing to not depend on anyone and do things that make you happy. Everyday for the past year, I’ve been chilling around, discovering new things, sharing some of them w you all, watching tv, cooking etc all in my own space.

it’s been such a fulfilling journey and if I could go back in time , I wouldn’t change a single thing! :)

You all have been super wonderful too! 🌸

Is it classist of me to not want to see this sh*t on this sub?

I have a weird ick from people trying to make these low effort posts on this sub, where they think they can just demand a woman to appear before them. Disgusting to me, just to begin with. But more so, I wanna get a sense of whether all these posts soliciting meetups reflect any real challenges in the locality like maybe loneliness or lack of socialising opportunities?

I get wanting to meet new people, but shouldn’t there be some solid premise before even agreeing to meet? Not to mention, the posts seeking exclusively women are shadier and give me doubts about safety for women in the locality (a thought which wouldn’t occur if you’re simply walking around Indiranagar, feels freaking safe). But the sheer amount of such solicitations makes me wonder 💭

Possibly the best Indian cuisine restaurant in Indiranagar

Went to Jamavar at Leela Palace and was quite surprised by both, the menu and the taste of food. Generally, North Indian or Indian food usually sucks at the restaurants of 5 star hotels. These folks have really aced the art of bringing out tantalising Indian flavors with a few things on the menu that are absolutely mind blowing!

For non vegetarians, I would highly recommend trying kadhai lobster masala. If you like lobster, this is one of the most unique preps for it. Yummm!

Book about revolution / dystopia but set in a fictional world

I love George Orwell but his prose is extremely boring to read cover to cover. Animal farm was a short and sweet read that didn’t bore me as much. But looking for other books that have some revolutionary plot in it. Gripping prose would be a bigg plus.

When the queen sets out to figure her fav kid

There’s a peculiar way in which Andrew’s character was portrayed, even the queen’s concern to what he was upto. Is it inspired by real life event? Or is it a dramatised story created in light of whatever happened later?

Not the most insta savvy place, but great dosas at New Thippasandra

One of those underdog places you’d find on a walk in a busy market. Speaking of Dosas, can someone please explain why outlets in bangalore serve two different types of dosas - at some places I see these thick and well rounded ones which fit into a plate and in others, I see these long and thin dosas.

Are these different styles? Hard to tell because they’re called “Dosa” or “Masala Dosa”

28, M4A, Bangalore - Looking for a longterm CF partner

My first time posting here so let me know if I miss on something. I’m a creative professional working in Bangalore, living an independent and chill life for the past 10 years. I’ve never been in relationships before except for the one at school and a few crushes in college.

I’m a bit of a mix bw Genz and millennial and feel like I belong to neither side properly. But I like music, watching sitcoms and cooking. My latest hobby is learning keyboard piano tho i feel like im gonna give it up very soon.

Anyhoo, I’m looking to be in a relationship and share some joys of life with another person. I have been very comfortable living alone but have also built enough space in life for another person.

I’m looking for someone bw ages 22-36, someone who’s not too traditional in their beliefs (nothing against that) and intends to build a growth oriented life without their family’s support. I don’t have any religion/ caste / gender / appearance preferences. Just be a good person with some goal in life.

I’m well traveled, well read, well socialised but also bit of an introvert on many days. I respond well to calm and serious people who prioritise intellectual development over physical stimulation.

Hit me up to know more! Let me know in comments if this could’ve used more details. Thanks!

Daffy’s mead is insanely good!

Guava mead at Daffy’s - this tropical fav with almost a floral sweetness and slightly creamy texture. It’s got this silky mouthfeel which I am guessing comes from fermentation of honey during the mead making. The tartness in guava cuts through the honey’s sweetness and the slight dryness keeps it from tasting syrupy. I’m in love!

Why do I always order a stout when I know it’s not for me .-.

I appreciate craft beers as much as the other guy but stout beers have over and again gave me the worst hangovers ever. I don’t know what is it about it tho. Maybe the bitterness or maybe the fact that it gets you drunk faster (?) Mystery to me.

Any stout lovers here?

Whacky prose by male writers

Just finished high fidelity by Nick Hornby and by the end of it, I literally started rationing the pages by reading slower. I usually read poetic novels but this one was such brilliant insight into the male psyche. Suggest similar authors pleaseeee! ☺️

Should I pull out / re allocate my ETF SIPs or hold?

Mid cap and small cap are performing fine but my portfolio is 70% ETFs. I started investing with 0 knowledge and kept putting large sums into silver & gold ETFs. Unfortunately they’re the only ones in negative right now. Should I bail or is this temporary?
