Affordable short term rent options

Hi all,

Thinking about staying in Singapore for 1-3 months as a couple and trying to understand feasibility.

Place would need to be big enough for 2 people, private bath, fridge, ideally a lil kitchen, access to laundry.

Looking at AirBnB, or places like Citadines, it seems like there are no options under 4,000 SGD per month.

Do you have any tips where we could find a place to stay for 1-3 months that is more affordable?

Thanks!

Marriott Bonvoy Benefits when booking through Chase

Hi,

I notice when browsing hotels that there are sometimes tags that IHG benefits still apply, but never saw it for Marriott.

I'm lifetime Platinum at Marriott Bonvoy, would I still get the benefits when I book through Chase?

Thanks!

Looking for backpacks that do not cause pilling

Hi there,

I love to walk around with my backpack, but it usually kills whatever I'm wearing as the friction of the backpack on my back causes (heavy) pilling on my shirt, sweater, jacket... The "rougher" the material, the more pilling is happening. E.g. typical polo shirts are much more impacted then smooth business shirts.

My current backpack (Swissgear) has a mash in the back that is supposed to help with airflow, but I think it causes extra friction. Looking to buy a new backpack that is better for my shirts.

I was initially looking at a TUMI Alpha Backpack, but they have a similar mash, so I assume will cause a lot of pilling too.

Any tips?

Is this really an Upgrade?

Hi Hivemind,

How do you feel about the upgrades you get these days at Marriott and the other chains of the world?

As a Lifetime Platinum, in general I am quite happy with the upgrades I get, but what bothers me are the "fake" upgrades. With that I mean you book a room and then the hotel graciously upgrades you to the same room with a different view or on a higher floor. Same room, no upgrade in my mind.

Just checked in today into the Marriott Executive Suites in Bangkok Townhall Sukhumvit, booked the simplest room (Studio, 1 King, City View, Balcony), and they upgraded me to the "Premier Studio". Same room, nothing premium about it, just on a higher floor.

Amazed that they call it a "Premier Studio" implying a premium in the room, but there is none. They told me at front desk as well that it is the same studio, just on higher floor. Does not even have a coffee maker in the room, just an electric water kettle and instant coffee. Real 5 star feeling :)

What's your experience?

I’m curious if anyone knows who decided / how it’s decided what tv channels and what apps (meaning Netflix, prime etc) are made available in the rooms?

In NA I always quite enjoyed the amount of apps and that often one was included and did not require any login. What I often missed were more foreign channels, even things like BBC.

Currently staying in Thailand a lot, I’ve noticed that there are much fewer apps and so far none that were free to use.

As well a surprising selection of channels…. Most have CNN or ABC and BBC.

Now staying in the W Bangkok and they have neither of them, instead Fox News on the first slot 😳

Hi hivemind!

I’m curious about your experience with the Chase iOS app for your CSR!

What are the features you like most / least? What do you find odd?

Personally these are my biggest drawbacks:

- As someone who travels a lot internationally, I really dislike that I can’t see the amount spend in the foreign currency, even when I go to the transaction details.

- Navigation feels a bit clunky as well, as it appear I always have to return to the account level when I want to switch for example from transactions to benefits and I can’t do that “within” the card level

+ Benefits section is comprehensive

What is your experience?

What missed opportunities are lurking in the app?

Hi all,

I’m looking for a Marriott property in Bangkok that has a self service laundry (meaning washer & dryer in the room or in a laundry room on property that I can use).

I know the Marriott Executive Apartments have that, but probably as well some other hotels?

Marriott property can be anything from their portfolio. Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Moxy, W, Courtyard, Aloft etc etc
