Should the IOC Withdraw Their Recognition of FIFA?

The COO of FIFA, Kevin Lamour has been sacked after criticizing Gianni Infantino. This is another troubling development concerning the governance of FIFA. Several years ago, the IOC revoked their recognition of the IBA has the governing body for boxing. What the IBA was doing is only a fraction of what FIFA is doing now.

Based on prior precedent with the IBA, is it time for the IOC to revoke their recognition of FIFA as football's governing body? Can this be done? And how would it be done?

Berlin seems to favor Expo 2035 over the 2036 Olympics?

Germany has been exploring an Olympic bid for 2036 or 2040. While Berlin has not had a referendum, locals don't seem into it. On the other hand, Berlin is bidding for the 2035 World's Fair (Expo 2035) and recent polling shows support for that. I think Berlin may very well win Expo 2035. At this point, it seems clear that Berlin will not be Germany's Olympic candidate but Berlin will not be disappointed if they get Expo 2035.

A joint NYC-Lake Placid Winter Olympics is probably a very long way off

There have been several posts on here about this proposed New York City-Lake Placid bid for the 2042 Winter Olympics. I personally do like the idea as it can be done with existing venues. But there is a point which is being lost;

Any future Winter Olympics in NYC-Lake Placid is probably a long way off and its probably way later than 2042. Let's look at a few facts:

  1. Atlanta hosted the 1996 Summer Olympics and Salt Lake City hosted the Winter Olympics six years later. By the time Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympics, it will have been 26 years since Salt Lake City 2002 and 32 years since Atlanta 1996. After 2002, the IOC was not in a rush to return to the US. With LA hosted 2028 and Utah hosted the Winter Olympics six year later in 2034, it's not like there will be rush to return to the US after 2034.

  2. After 2034, the US will have hosted ten Olympics (Five summer, Five winter) which is more than anyone. With those facts, again, it just feels like there won't be a rush to return soon.

  3. It is true that Atlanta 1996 did happen 12 years after LA84, so by that logical there would be a way for the 2046 Winter Olympics to happen in the US 12 years after Utah 2034. But again, things are very different now compared to back in 1990 when Atlanta got the 1996 games.

Of course there are geopolitical considerations to take into account as well, but I prefer not to get into those debates, but I think we know they exist.

One has to wonder if a sixth Winter Olympics in the US happens 20 to 32 years after 2034 in Utah. So do you see this idea being a very long way off?

Could Beach Volleyball be dropped from the Olympics?

With the cuts to the Olympic program, coming, could beach volleyball be axed? It seems like the media coverage of it is more of the women for very obvious reasons. Also, it requires a temporary outdoor venue.

Could football be dropped from the Olympic program?

FIFA is already talking about expanding the FIFA World Cup to 64 teams while the Women's World Cup will expand to 48 by 2031. Given the size of these tournaments, could the IOC say, or should the IOC say "Hey you guys don't need your sport to be in the Olympics at this point"

Think about it, if football were to be dropped, you would have less athletes and maybe room for more athletes in individual sports and disciplines.

Do you see the IOC ever dropping football? Do you think they should?
