Recently there's been a controversy in my (proship) friend group about someone's OCs getting darkshipped.

The person who was doing these ships with my friend's OCs wasn't doing it in their face or anything, but they were doing it in a place where the friend managed to stumble across it and it made them feel a bit flattered (the stuff was high effort) but also uncomfortable.

They considered just blocking and moving on, but this person is actively making quality darkship fanart of their OCs and posting fanfics about them, which is making them worry that someone could mistake them for being that darkshipper/ someone could think the darkshipper's stuff is canon.

Curious on everyone else's thoughts because the situation is really messy (let me clarify no one's reached out to the darkshipper in question yet)

Update- I reached out on my friend's behalf, but no response. They're still actively posting stuff but there's not really much we can do. After getting no response, darkshipper's AO3 was reported for OC theft but nothing's come of that yet either.
