The MASSIVE Continuity and Timeline Error That Will Change the Way You See the Gru!!!

There's a major continuity error between the first two Minions movies.

The first one, Minions, is officially set in 1968. On top of that, in Despicable Me 4, Gru tells Poppy that he was 11 years old when he stole the crown, which is an event that takes place in that movie. That means that if Gru was 11 in 1968, he must have been born in 1957.

However, Minions: The Rise of Gru is officially set in 1976. This can even be confirmed because Gru, Kevin, Stuart, and Bob go to the theater to watch Jaws, which was released in 1975 and you can literally see a giant sign saying 1976 in the first few seconds of the movie.

Here's where the huge problem comes in: if Gru was born in 1957, he should be 17 or 18 years old in 1976, not 11. But during The Rise of Gru, he tells the Vicious 6 that he just turned 11. What the hell?

If we take that as correct, then Gru must have been born in 1965, which would mean that during the events of Minions (1968), he would only be 3 years old. That would also mean he stole the crown when he was just three years old, which is obviously impossible.

And the contradiction gets even worse. If Gru was actually born in 1957, then during the events of the four Despicable Me movies, he should be somewhere between his early 50s and late 60s, depending on how much time passes between each film.

But that doesn't match the franchise either, since Gru is clearly portrayed as being around 40 years old.

So... what the hell? The official timeline simply doesn't make sense.

I'm not asking for consistency or demanding it with this post. I'm just pointing out this error that I noticed recently, and I honestly find it funny. It's pretty obvious that Illumination couldn't care less about any of this.

Jackson Fanelli is better than most SpongeBob yotubers. But man does he take the episodes too seriously. Not every episode needs a good lesson or one in general, and in now way did dunces and dragons fail as an episode. That one is loved by many.
