British Isles Map Pack!

British Isles Map Pack!

It has been a while. I made the maps in January some 7 months ago and then forgot to publish them which is why it doesn't contain any specific support for the new expansion.

(Sorry, no Mod.io. I keep getting errors and can't figure it out)

There's maps for Ireland, Scotland, and England & Wales all at reasonable ~6 cities per player, and a massive map of the whole British Isles at ~12 cities per player for everyone that craves mega games.

---------------

Here's the older map packs. If you haven't tried any of them - they are all extremely detailed and high quality. The descriptions also include the number of cities per player so you can see how crowded or big each map will feel. I strongly suggest playing the reasonable maps and not the absurdly big ones.

Greyhawk Map Pack

The probably best set of maps is based on the D&D Greyhawk universe. The map of Flanaess was perfect for making an Old World map. Even the large Full Flanaess map works well as players are clustered in the center very close to each other. Eastern Flanaess (9p) and Western Flanaess (9p) are my favourite Old World maps overall.

Game of Thrones Map Pack

Modio Link: https://mod.io/g/oldworld/c/game-of-thrones-map-pack

Steam Link: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3446043204

I was shocked that nobody had done it yet for Old World because it's such a good fit. The locations of the various major houses are also balanced making the Seven Kingdoms naturally great for video games. Below The Neck (6p) is my favourite, but the various Duel maps are great for faster 1v1s and underappreciated.

Ancient Greece Map Pack

Modio Link: https://mod.io/g/oldworld/c/ancient-greece-map-pack

Steam Link: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3473756884

Most of the maps are heavy on naval action, but especially Lydia (4p) and Aegean Sea (10p)/(7p). The biggest issue was that the city states are not evenly spread across Greece which makes Polis (5) and Megapolis (9p) my favourites to play.

Cumbria Map Pack

Modio Link: https://mod.io/g/oldworld/c/cumbria-map-pack

Steam Link: https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=3451235002

Cumbria in the North of England is full of villages with rude names and so this happened. But also the geography is interesting: The Lake District in the center is an area full of mountains and lakes which makes for unique games. That's why Lake District (8p) is the map to play. (The 10p Greater Cumbria map is basically unplayable so be warned.)

Note:

The goal was to create a range of quality premade maps because I didn't like the map generation scripts and I've played all the available premade maps looking for more variation. I create huge and extremely detailed 180x180 maps that are barely playable due to their massive size and then cut them down to smaller regions within those maps that are "normal sized". Keep that in mind as you probably don't want to play the biggest maps (Larger Cumbria, Westeros and West Essox, Ancient Greece and Lydia, and Full Flanaess) unless you have a high-end computer that can handle it and want an overly long massive game. You've been warned!

How to cope with brainfog/burnout as audhd?

I used to be weird but smart and did a ton of masking but never fully fitting in before I found out I have audhd at 40+.

I think I got lucky as I got a high paying corporate job that I'm good at. Most people never thought about me being on the spectrum or maybe mildly.

Around 2017/18 I got burnout at work. Not even the autism related one, just flat out 18 hour days until I couldn't anymore. There was a nasty fallout and poor treatment at work and I suspect that's when it compounded with an autistic burnout. The brainfog set in and I've suddenly had major social anxiety in a way I never had before.

Since then my QOL has been shit. I wake up dizzy like I'm drunk. I struggle through the day like this, my usually quick witty brain barely coping with basic tasks, then I go to bed still dizzy.

I took a year off work here and there without meaningful recovery, I'm currently working again and it's such a struggle. New company is going through a chaotic phase and the lack of structure and inane approach to projects is driving me insane and made the brain fog much worse last week and now I'm struggling to complete tasks.

I'm still waiting for ADHD meds but it's an endless waiting list in the UK so who knows if they do anything. I'm experiencing with random things in the meantime, currently trying cbd oil.

I'd love to hear from people who dealt with this and have coping strategies or a path back to health or general good advise for this. It's been 8 years and it's tough. Really really tough.

Received this die via post. No idea why or what it is.

8 sided die, 7 icons that look vaguely like biomes and 1 blank.

Um, Actually got Expedition 33 question wrong twice (warning: game spoilers)

BLM correctly found the error that the paintress did not cause the gommage. The initial premise is that the paintress is believed to cause it, but it is later revealed in a twist that she does not cause it but rather paints the numbers as a warning. Ify says that she did indeed cause it, which is *obviously* wrong.

The answer accepted is that there were not 32 previous expeditions but 67 because it is a countdown from 100. While this is also an error in the initial statement, the actual number is 52 because there were no expeditions 99 to 85.

This really surprises me, because if you actually played the game you can't get it this wrong. The only way you get it wrong is if you either play the first 10 hours and stop or if you rely on chatgpt to write your questions.

Steamforged cuts boardgame division to focus on miniature wargaming

It's wild. They had several $3-4m kickstarters and yet have mass redundancies for their boardgame division. They say there's enough staff to fulfill ongoing projects.

And yes, that's the company that posted AI generated images of the game being produced recently and then claimed they didn't notice that the factory had shared the doctored images with them.

Most of their games seem to be poorly design and received, relying on big miniatures and IPs for kickstarter success. IP slop? So maybe that decision is a net positive for the industry.

Am I unfair to their designs and they have a gem between their low rated games?

Update: I finally stopped buying things, and it helped my budget

A few weeks ago I posted about getting stuck in the "buy it first, think about it later" loop. I live in Ontario and I am trying to pay down about $90k in credit card debt, so it felt extra silly to be buying board game as investment for my children's future.

Update: I tried a strict rule for a month and it actually worked.

  1. Nothing gets bought unless my wife's boyfriend approves. My underwear may have holes but his discipline keeps me financially sound.

  2. If a game has a pledge level over $500 I will first read the description and maybe watch a video before I pledge.

  3. I put together a small night kit (blankets, sleeping bag, etc) so I don't need to run the heating when le wifey is visiting her boyfriend.

Results so far: we've done this for nine weeks and I slowed down my debt growth from $5k per month to $2k per month.

The surprising part is that it made scheduling night easier. Since I stopped buying new underwear the wife is more likely to stay with her boyfriend.

Curious what rules you all use to avoid the rabbit hole without feeling like you are ruining your investments?
