USA Beware United Healthcare calls "verifying your info"

This is the second call from these people. Caller has Indian accent. I said I'd need to call him back, he gave me a phone that started with area code 201. (Obviously not a UHC number.)

The last time they called they had my actual birth date. This time I didn't let him get that far.

Once again they said they were verifying my information and asked if I went to see the doctor this year - probably just to get me talking.

UHC knows whether or not I went to see the doctor and what my info is

There is no reason for your health care company to ask these questions.

My guess is they got birth dates in some data leak and are trying to make use of it. Do not know what their actual scam was going to be.

GA broken & post in community also broken

Half the reason I have Google speakers is to have them ring my Android phone when I have lost it. It won't do that anymore. When I say ring my phone the new assistant gives me a lecture about how I need to say. Tell me to find your phone or do this other thing on the computer. So then I say HEY G, find my phone and it says I don't understand. Then I tell it it just told me to do that and we go around and around in an endless circle which never gets resolved and my phone never gets rung. This is happened exactly the same way on multiple occasions.

So then I go to report this problem to Google and I get a list of myriad FAQs none of which have anything to do with my problem. Then it says post to the community so I write the post to the community and it gives me that same list of FAQs. And I say none of these work- post to the community and again an endless cycle that never resolves it goes around in an endless loop.

As far as I can tell, Google as a company is completely dysfunctional now.

More vendors are charging 3% to pay by cc. What's the solution for this?

I'm accustomed to using credit cards to make the purchase safe, trackable and have a month to manage paying. In the last couple months my dermatology office, a plumbing company and home insurance charged the fee. it's not worth 3% of the charge to pay this way but what are we doing instead? Are we going back to paper checks? Or does using a debit card make the most sense?

Audible + ebook cost more!

I've been saying I wished we could buy an ebook along with our audible book at a big discount . A bunch of people said - you get a big discount when you buy them together

Nope!

I just bought an ebook on sale and I was offered the audible book for $12. I assumed they meant $12 for both of them together. That would have been an .80 cent discount. I just bought the ebook itself.

Then I went back a bit later to see what they'll give me the audible book for and guess what?? The special offer was $12 for the audible. The current selling price of the book is $10.80.. !!

When I go to my computer audible account they do offer to me for $10.80 which is the standard price.

The lesson here is do not believe them when they say $ discount over regular price. That is just marketing nonsense.

Did I miss something? Is there some special process I could perform to get the audible at a discount because I bought the Kindle?

New scam? - Fake order Phone Call - "Olivia from Walmart"

You know all those fraud emails that say you bought an iPhone or software for $680? I just got a call like that. Never heard of these coming via phone.

Details - an AI voice says "This is Olivia from Walmart Order Verification. Your Walmart "account" (no name given) has a "pre-authorized purchase" for a Playstation for $919

She asks me to Press 1 or call their number --starts with 716 area code. (Why does Reddit say I can't put their phone number? It helps us identify fraud to include the phone number!)

Even the scams have been hit by inflation!

Of course there is no such thing as a "Pre-authorized purchase". Stay safe out there.

Romance scams on Reddit?

I'm fairly new to using Reddit regularly. I just got my first random private message - which said something like - Hey there..... Assuming this is some kind of scam. Is this a problem on Reddit? I'd think this group would be a big draw to scammers since they would know we are female and older.
