How to not lose hope on medication journey

Not asking for any medical advice, just seeing some empathy as I (37M) type this in the morning feeling a little sad about myself. I have a stable job, a great wife, great kids but something just feels off about me.

Ever since 2020/2021, I’ve been dealing with tons of brain fog, memory lapse, migraines, rumination, social / performance anxiety. I’ve theorized it could be long COVID or burnout from being in a leadership position with ADHD. I’ve thought about switching jobs but don’t want to risk ending up in a worse situation.

Been to various doctors and even a neurologist who ordered a brain MRI (everything normal). Got officially diagnosed with ADHD a couple years ago. It’s gotten worse with time. I’ve tried various medications one at a time (Zoloft, Prozac, Lexapro, Vyvanse). The side effects of all those were too negative for me to keep up with.

Recently went to another psychiatrist, they said I have anxiety and ADHD. They said stimulants may make my anxiety worse so wanted to try non-stimulants first. Gave me an option between Qelbree and Intuniv. I took the Intuniv because I’ve read good things about it and the side effects listed seem to be milder than Qelbree.

I’m on day 5 of Intuniv, I know this med takes a while to work so I’m being patient. But just wanted some sympathy and hope that I find something that works because it’s exhausting to keep living like this.

Any helpful tips or tricks for upcoming Getaway cruise?

We have an upcoming 3 day cruise on NCL Getaway to the Bahamas. It’s just me and my wife. We don’t really drink. We like relaxing, going to shows, eating good food.

It was a last minute booking to just get away (no pun intended) for the weekend. We have cruised on Royal Caribbean but this is our first time on NCL.

Any helpful tips and tricks to make the most of our experience? Anything regarding the ship and the NCL private island?

All dairy, not just lactose

Just wanted to post a semi-success story just incase anyone comes across this in the future.

I have dealt with GERD since my early 20s. I’m late 30s now. Went back and forth with different meds.

Have tried different elimination diets, but nothing seemed to work.

I randomly came across a post about dairy. And I mean all dairy, not sure lactose. In the past, I’ve cut out lactose for a few weeks. And when I’ve cut out dairy, it had only been for a few days.

About 6 months ago, I cut out dairy completely. And I mean no cheese, no butter, yogurt, no lactose free milk, no pancakes, etc.

It took a couple weeks to see improvement but I started to notice my GERD symptoms seemed to get better.

Now, if I cheat every now and then. Eat something with dairy, reflux will come back rapidly.

But cutting all dairy out completely, not just lactose, has helped me tremendously. I hope this helps someone else.

Feeling Left Out

Hi,

Curious to get others advice. We had a new CEO come to the company (small company, 100-150 employees) and there were some re-org that was involved. As a VP, I had 10 direct reports and two directors. During the re-org, me and the two directors now report directly to the CEO. So they are at the same level as me.

This happened about a year ago.

I was fine with the re-org. It allowed me to work more hands on (which I enjoy) and do less administrative duties (which I don’t enjoy).

Here is the problem, I know both directors want a VP position. Which is fine, I want them to succeed. I helped train them and coach them for 5-10 years. They have built a good working relationship with each other.

But I am finding that they are either purposefully or unintentionally leaving me out on things. Things that impact my responsibilities. Such as conversations or meeting with other department leads. They are collaborating on departmental efficiency initiatives without involving me. I’m worried it’s going to make me look bad in front of the new CEO if I’m not in the know about certain things.

I have no personal problem with them but I am starting to feel pretty crappy about constantly being left out. I don’t know how to approach them with this concern since there is two of them and one of me.

I just want to go to a good collaborative work environment where everyone is working together for a common goal. But their recent behavior has made me question myself, if I’ve done something wrong and worry about how I can be included as well so it feels more like a team environment.

Thoughts? Advice?

Why so much focus on preventing mistakes?

I never played soccer so take this with a grain of salt….

My son has gotten really into soccer. He’s okay. Not great but an average player on his club team. With his interest growing, I’ve started to learn more about it.

One thing that bugged me about this past season was the focus on mistake free playing. It seems to hurt the player development.

Some examples:

- Goal kicks booting it past build out line
-Kickoffs go backwards and then a big boot towards the opposing goal
-Defenders just booting it to the other side
-Defenders always taking the ball to the outside instead of looking for the open player
-Midfielders afraid to pass across the field

Is this like this everywhere in youth soccer? How do other coaches handle this?

Edit: For clarification: this is 11U

How to deal with overzealous coworker that is a black hole?

Basically what the title says, this coworker is constantly scheming on how to take more and more control. Telling others how to do their job. Stepping over responsibility boundaries. Are really good at playing the game to always make themselves look good when things go well and never take responsibility when things don’t go well. They are quick to judge others and talk bad about others privately. It seems like for them to get ahead, others have to look worse than them.

I can’t work with type of person. It’s giving me anxiety because I feel like my position is in jeopardy whenever I have to work with them. I know some of that is my own insecurities that I’m working on but with how bad the job market is currently, I can’t afford to lose this job that helps support my family.
