not hate but im not a big fan of works that try to pull some sort of nostalgia strings

like, it's boring. uninspiring. not the best word for it but i'd say it's mid quality slop. firstly:

  • like, it feels manufactured for a specific age group to say, "hey guys! remember back then! man let's reminisce on a time long past!" and it feels inauthentic. "OH WOw LoOk at ThaT IT's so FucKIng rETRO ReMEmBER tHaT reMEMber guys RemeMBEr THE thIng"
  • it's a crutch. they use it as a sort of plot device (idk the right word i apologize for that) that, sometimes, is just that, no meaning, no rhyme or reason, just pulling. it's 100% fine if it's just, "let's look back at the times" and it was simple reminiscing. but no, for work like planetronika it's just that: y2k nostalgia.
  • why is always either the 80s 90s or 2000s? and it's always the same FUCKING general tropes.
  • HORRRROOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRR!!!!!! MY GOD THEY USE THE SAME GODDAMN "oH WoW LoOk at thAt...VideO TAPeS! and UH...uHH....vOice tapeS!"

not to diminish it for this dumb reason, but im like, very late gen z. most of those i don't even get because i never lived in those times. not even I would ever do some nostalgia like that. all and all, no hate whatsoever i view planetronika and sorts as good, but im not the biggest fan of it, don't absolutely hate it but ehh...

the idea of powerscaling is different than that of the people. do i agree that some people take it way too far? yes. i do. but here's the thing. that exists for literally everything. EVERY single fandom has bad people in it. doesn't make the fandom bad.

and so what if i like to say "can he beat goku tho"? if i find it funny and you don't, don't be the smartass that says "that's not funny." let me have my fun.

and what's wrong with the terminology? so sayeth one man before, "I can't even imagine how godawfully frustrating would it be to stumble upon someone who will pull up the least unreliable bs claims ever and call themselves an all-knower while using terms such as '2-D level Universal, Multiversal'". i like the terminology. i would like to know if captain underpants could ebat the goofy out of arceus or not, so help me.

also ive heard some people use "authorial intent" to dismiss powerscaling. which is like, you have no idea of knowing for 100% certain. of course i can't guarantee and it's not a good argument, but can YOU 100% guarantee when john arthur said, "and so john hero split the clouds" he metaphorically split the clouds? if not, leave me alone, leave me to have my fun.

again, of course, there are people who take this too far. but you're talking about a MINORITY. EVERY SINGLE FANDOM HAS PEOPLE WHO TAKE IT TOO FAR. does that make the hobby bad?

like sure dude, all muslims just go around swinging the sword because someone isn't muslim anymore. like, are you immune to context?

for context, they're referring to a specific hadith. "The Messenger of Allah [SAW] said: 'Whoever changes his religion, kill him.'"

of course this is in context to surrounding war where apostaty was synonymous with treason.

that's like saying a christian is also just as bad as a muslim, or a jew. because of course, "look it's the muslim, they're the bad guy, point!" people like him (solely these archetypes of course not everyone) tick me off.

option 1. a jacket. this jacket is a parasitic garment of absolute, albeit temporary, power. to bring out any miracle, you must first look at like, any family member, 1 of them, in the eye and verbally write them off as the sacrifice, triggering an immediate, agonizing, and terminal plague within them. this intervention remains active only as long as the jacket maintains physical contact with the wearer’s skin; the moment the jacket is removed for sleep, hygiene, or by accident, the world resets to its previous state of suffering. while the global benefits vanish instantly, the death of the sacrificed loved one remains permanent.

option 2: the bus man comes in a bus and provides a city with total abundance—healing the sick and feeding the hungry—but for every person helped, some mf uses omniscience to target a vulnerable individual in that same city, driving them to insanity through psychological warfare. this 1:1 ratio is absolute: every meal provided is paid for by the orchestrated death of a person already in crisis. this cycle can only be broken if you look the Driver in the eye and tell him to leave, as he takes his joy and charities with him in sadness.

what would you pick?

in my own opinion there's no profound good result from belittling people and mocking their arguments. it's pointless, i've seen firsthand the effect it has on people. for example...

as a muslim, i consume a lot of muslim content (such as browniesaadi). with that comes some muslim youtubers responding to arguments from non muslims trying to dismantle islam as false. even as a muslim to another muslim, the snark that both sides have is severely irritating. so what if i believe they're not right? that doesn't make your point any more valid than them. it just adds a cycle.

and it also creates a circle of mentioning said arguments. youtuber A may say, "pineapples are good on pizza" and youtuber B may say, "well if you were a moron i would agree with you." and the comments sections of either one would point out their arrogance, on some "without lies pineapple supporters die" and "wow...how can pineapple haters be so stupid?" this all starts because someone starts with snark, and they respond with snark.

it's dumb. it’s pointless. it doesn't make your own point more valid; it just creates a toxic cycle where nobody actually learns anything. whatever happened to the gentleman's debate, where a person upholds another's arguments? like, literally in the olden days, in medieval universities, students were often required (key word required) to master the pro and contra sides of a theological or philosophical thesis before they were allowed to mention a synthesis or critique. like, literally, what happened? and also, the rapoport rules, named after the man of the same name. these rules require a debater to summarize their opponent’s position so clearly, so VIVIDLY, and fairly that the opponent says, "thanks my brotato i wish I’d thought of putting it that way."

i’m open to changing my view if someone can show me that snark actually serves a productive purpose in discourse, or if the "gentleman’s debate" was never as effective as it sounds on paper. change my view.

"omg kirby's evil because he inhales people" erm actually he doesn't kill people he just transports them away so sayeth Masahiro Sakurai

"mario steps on goombas" they're legal combatants in a war BOWSER STARTS mind you, so they KNOW that they're going to WAR.

"pokemon are used for fighting" they would have opposed or outright lashed out at their users if they did. you literally have to treat them well, feed them, take them out to the park, low friendship means they will literally do nothing but sit around, so clearly you have to treat them well

it's boring, unoriginal, and i prefer genuinely original work like mashed's work for example, not just "what if x character was evil ooh my god so crazy!"
