Should I dump my lawyer?

I applied in LA Consulate a few years ago from GGF - GM - M - Me. I submitted homework just before people were getting denied for the minor issue. I got caught up in that and spoke with a lawyer from the recommended Cassazionisti list. We decided to take a different line through the 1948 route in the Italian courts. I’ve sent two payments by now and have signed a contract and POA. I started collecting docs for this line. During the time of gathering the 1948 documents, of course the minor issue and generational limits changes for my favor and I received that letter from the LA consulate saying my case would be re-reviewed. My lawyer recommended I still go through the courts but to switch my line back to the same one I used for my original consulate application.

Because of the timeline of this all and knowing they were deeply involved in arguing cases before the supreme court, I gave a lot of grace to this firm with their inattention to my specific case. I always faced extreme delays (weeks) in getting back to me and the responses are often for lack of a better term, lazy. Not answering my questions. Not providing any support. Etc.

One example of what I perceived as being lazy and unhelpful is the translations. It was only after I got “unofficial” translations of all my docs that they told me the translations needed to be sworn. This was only mentioned previously in the contract language, not through any conversations. OK, I guess we can chalk that up to a misunderstanding on my end but it really would have been nice if they mentioned this in conversation or email. But they then went on to say in the email (and this is a quote) “If you obtain sworn translations in the US, a further Apostille on each translation will be required. If you obtain them in Italy, the second Apostille is not needed.”

So… document -> apostille -> sworn translation -> apostille again

That seems very strange to me. I did not read that in this subs wiki. Naturally I want to avoid it. The offered to connect me with the translator their firm uses to have it done in Italy. I’ve been waiting almost an entire month for them to provide me the name and contact info. We’ve exchanged a few emails in this time, every time I ask. The receiving email on my end is nothing ever of consequence. I even received one email where they said they could not find my signed contract and POA and asked me to do it again. I told them the date and name of person who confirmed its receipt and they then located it.

Another area of laziness is I’ve offered several times to meet on zoom so we can just hash it all out and my request keeps getting ignored.

Basically this is supposed to be one of the better firms and I feel like I’m getting the terrible service. I’m concerned if I use their translator, it is going to be more of this. I’m debating pumping the breaks on this whole thing and waiting to see what happens with my consulate re-review, or potentially eating the lost money and getting a new lawyer.

Looking for some advice from folks who have succeeded here and are familiar with the legal process.

SDAM or early Dementia?

Hi! A few quick things, I do have an appointment with my PCP to begin conversations about early dementia just as a precaution. Also I'm a severe aphant and do believe I have severe SDAM as well as that thing where you can't see faces. I'm 43 years old.

In the past 3 days I have had 3 events that really scare me because of how short it was from the memory I should have. I'm wondering if others experience these types of moments.

  • I asked my wife if she wanted to watch some guy's stand up special on Netflix and she said we watched it already about 3 weeks ago. I asked her to tell me one of the jokes and it was very fuzzy for me.
  • I got Xbox Game Pass and was excited to play Doom Dark Ages. I fired it up and saw I already had a 5 hour saved game. It came out 1 year ago. I started a fresh save game and the tutorial is very fuzzy for me.
  • I watched Bone Temple which was a direct sequel to a 28 years later. I saw that in the theaters one year ago and I don't remember anything about it.

Thanks!

Fixed my sticky Switch 2 thumb stick

I'm the only person that plays my Switch 2 and I wash my hands a lot. One day my right thumbstick started feeling sticky in the down/right position. It was infuriating because I know didn't cause it. So I got out a flashlight and noticed this which is not on the other side. You can see all the way on the right the rubber got stuck, creating the large hole in front. I put a toothpick in there and flicked it out. All is well now. Just posting in case somebody else runs into it.

No sound from BT Speaker ONLY in YouTube Music after Android 17 Update

Hi! I have a Logitech UE Wonderboom 4. Everything was fine until I updated my Pixel 6 Pro to Android 17. Now when I try to play while connected to my Wonderboom, the app shows the music playing but there is no sound. I updated the Wonderboom to latest firmware from May, v1.2.0. I'm hoping somebody here can offer up some support. Here are some tested scenarios I put it through:

  • I cleared app storage and repaired device to my phone.
  • UE Wonderboom plays YouTube Music fine when connected to my iPad.
  • UE Wonderboom plays YouTube app fine when connected to the Pixel 6 Pro.
  • UE Wonderboom plays Gemini responses fine when connected to the Pixel 6 Pro.
  • Other bluetooth devices play YouTube Music fine when connected to the Pixel 6 Pro.

TL;DR - After Android 17 update only one BT device (fully updated) doesn't play audio from only the YouTube Music app, but it plays sound from other apps.

Why Roth accounts when retiree income brackets are often lower?

The way I learned about planning and Roth vs Traditional accounts 17 years ago is that most people’s income drops significantly in retirement. A major assumption here of course is you spent the last 30 years paying off a mortgage and have secured a place to live. As you get older, you naturally eat less. You drink less. Your kids are grown. You paid for school. Our bodies get older, we travel less. We spend more time at home. Medical can be an expense but there are ways to manage that also. Basically, all the types of activities that demand higher incomes slow down.

Given all that, the notion was that statistically somebody who was fortunate enough to save for retirement throughout a career will likely be in a much lower tax bracket at retirement, so pay the taxes then. However when I visit this sub, it feels like this discussion point never comes up and people always push Roth over Traditional.

Has the general advice or Roth changed? Is there something I missed or I don’t understand correctly? Thanks!

EDIT> From comments it looks like I’m underestimating the size of RMDs.
