Would you fight for Sri Lanka?

I see this question asked in a lot of other country subreddits so I wanted to ask too. And let’s assume it’s like an invasion of the country by troops. Would you stay and defend the country or would you flee? I think it comes down to patriotism and I don’t know how deep it goes in our people.

Barely anyone who’s similar to me

Hey I’m half Sri Lankan and half Chinese and around here (Sri Lanka) there’s barely anyone who’s like me. the only ones that r like me are super young 😭.

My parents met in Singapore and I just wish they stayed there. I heard there’s a lot of Chindians there, they are like me sort of and they have all the best food. Why was ppl like me born somewhere much better. I also hear they teach Chinese at public schools meanwhile I don’t know any Chinese which is super tied with culture. I speak sinhala to my mom but I can’t watch the news and don’t feel connected here either. At this point I rlly think I’m a combination that shouldn’t have happened, my parents arent fit for eachother either and constantly argue. Why was I born mixed race in an unhappy family?

My dad constantly gets on my back to learn Chinese eventho I’m in my senior yr and I have to focus on my studies. He brings me around with this other Chinese mother and daughter (their father died) and they speak Chinese exclusively which I can’t understand, constantly dragging me to random things and tying up my hair and making me feel like a doll. (I can’t understand what they r doing the whole time cuz I can’t understand them and he said that without them he wouldn’t be here) The moment I say I don’t want you to tie my hair or I don’t want to go with you my dad shouts and sometimes pushes me or hits me in private. He says it’s normal to punish your children and that’s the only way they learn eventho my mom defends me. He is obsessed about status even though I’m not gonna stay in this country after graduation and the whole reason he wants me to learn Chinese is because everyone around him said it was such a shame I didn’t know any. Why did he start so late I’m just about to graduate and he knows that.

Dealing with Chinese ppl like that has just worn me down and now I tell everyone I’m not Chinese. I’ve just been rejecting it.My children will never be normal in the sense they’ll also have these feelings since they’ll be 50% of me which is 25% 25%. They’ll wonder where’s their culture when I was never given much to pass down. Really it’s been jsut uncomfortable why couldn’t I have been born normal handling mixed children is difficult so why have one if u can’t give them the best of both worlds. The last time I visited china was when I was 12 and yet sometimes ppl in school say Ching Chong to me. I don’t know who I am. Wish I died in the womb.

I think india is nice - Sri Lankan

Hello I’m from Sri Lanka. A lot of times I wish I was from India instead lol you guys have way more ppl to relate to on the planet. I’ll give you some reasons and idk if I’m romanticising it.

India has great wifi compared to here because there’s no competition with isps and people just don’t give a shit enough. You guys seem way more proactive too, people here can hate progress because they get too greedy. Like we have new metro buses from China but private bus owners rally against it because it hurts their pockets, even though it’s good for public transport.

In India I’m guessing the middle class can afford cars and houses (eventually). In Sri Lanka owning a car and a house is impossible in our lifetimes with our salary due to high taxes, so that the country can build a foreign reserve for imf loan repayments in 2028.

India has great parties, culture and fun, meanwhile we are a bit boring and stale. Entertainment is really limited and expensive, we have like 3 good malls and movies cost soo much. 😭😭 and your kinderjoy is 50 inr while for us it’s 142 inr and these prices r reflected everywhere, everything is so expensive! And that same kinder joy, we import it from you guys! Yeah I wish I lived in a country that manufactured their own things.

Our salary can be as low as 17k inr for a month so it’s a bit hard. I know India has poverty but for the middle class it seems nice.

Can’t understand advanced Sinhala

I can speak and understand basic day to day sinhala but not advanced sinhala (words that you would use in formal settings, politics or anything religion based). Is there anyway for me to learn that gap in knowledge? I would appreciate some advice here as it has been bothering me for quite some time. Parents don’t really teach you that kind of vocabulary. I also have a hard time reading Sinhala but I think I can get books that teach the strokes and all.

What are my chances?

I’m half Chinese half Sri Lankan (dad Chinese) and I’m hoping to get to HSK 4 and eventually study HSK 5. Would any Chinese men be interested in mixed girls and would I be considered somewhat Chinese? I’m not fluent by any means but I do celebrate Chinese new years, mid autumn festival (not intensely though) and can make my own dumplings. However, I really hate eating weird parts of a chicken and don’t appreciate rural Chinese behavior like spitting in streets. I also hate bittergoud, tofu, eggplant and black kelp.

Want to know what my chances are. Thank you guys!
