Been running my bambu a1 completely naked with only 1 extruder screw lol. meta hack or am i stupid? 🛠️💀

Yo, 15yo maker here. got tired of getting heat creep in my room during summer cuz the plastic toolhead cover acts like a literal greenhouse. also stripping those tiny hex screws every time filament got jammed was a massive pain in the ass.

So i threw the front cover away and removed one of the two extruder latch screws. just tightened the one that's left.

been printing like this for 2 months and honestly? zero clogs since i stripped it cuz the airflow from the cooling fan is way better. also maintenance takes like 5 seconds now, i just unscrew one thing and the whole gear assembly is open. no stripped threads during late night grinds.

Input shaper tests show zero vibration issues and layers look perfect.

is this a legit shortcut or am i slowly ruining the resonance data long term? let me know what u guys think

I'm 15 and building a DIY 5-axis robotic arm 3D printer. Need slicer & firmware advice!

Hey everyone, I'm Itsdanipt. I've been deep into 3D printing for 7 months, running a Bambu Lab A1 and working with industrial machines like the Raise3D Pro2. Now, I want to take a massive leap and build a custom 5-axis robotic arm 3D printer.

My hardware concept is an "X-Ray" structure: a rigid internal skeleton made of stainless steel tubes to handle mechanical stress, covered by custom PETG printed housings for aesthetics and cable routing. To ensure maximum rigidity and eliminate belt slop, each stepper motor will be mounted directly at its respective joint. I'm planning to use a BigTreeTech Octopus Pro running RepRapFirmware or Klipper, utilizing TMC2209 drivers for sensorless homing, combined with optical/magnetic sensors. The print head will be a direct drive unit repurposed from an older machine.

My biggest hurdle right now is the software pipeline. I want a realistic workflow where I can throw an STL into a slicer and choose between two modes: a standard 3-axis print mode (keeping the head vertical) and an advanced 5-axis mode (tilting the nozzle for multi-surface, supportless printing).

I'm looking into RoboDK with the 3D printing plugin, and also exploring Grasshopper/Rhino, but I've never programmed inverse kinematics for a custom articulated arm from scratch.

  • Has anyone here built a 5-axis arm printer and could share their workflow?
  • What is the most reliable slicer/post-processor option for a custom DIY multi-axis setup?
  • Are there any major firmware limitations in RepRapFirmware or Klipper regarding custom articulated arm kinematics that I should watch out for?

Any advice, tips, or documentation links from experienced makers would be highly appreciated. I really want to push the boundaries of DIY manufacturing!

Thanks in advance,
Itsdanipt

My Bambu A1 AC Board literally blew up. Support is lying about my warranty to force me into a dangerous repair. What do I do?

Hey guys,

I’m losing my mind with Bambu support right now and I really need some advice. They are acting completely brain-dead and defensive.

A few days ago, my A1 had a massive hardware failure. The NTC component on the AC board literally burned up and blew out, causing a ton of heat inside my room. Support actually admitted in the first ticket that the NTC failed, but then they told me to unscrew the bottom cover, take photos, and said they’d send me a new AC board so I could fix it myself.

My dad and I straight up refused. We’re talking about a mains power circuit that literally burned inside my house. I'm 15, and my parents are obviously not comfortable letting me act as an uncertified electrician to fix something that could catch fire. We demanded either a brand-new printer or a full refund (€453.76).

Then, support hit me with the most ridiculous copy-paste reply ever: "We regret to inform you that we cannot provide a machine replacement service as the device has already exceeded the warranty period."

This is a straight-up lie. I bought this printer brand new from their official store in August 2025. It has less than a year of use! Under EU law and even Bambu’s own website policy, we have a mandatory warranty. They are literally disregarding the law just to dodge a refund, and they even tried to bribe us with two free rolls of filament if we just shut up and did the manual repair.

We just sent a super firm reply telling them to escalate this to a supervisor right now, calling them out on the warranty lie, and demanding the refund/replacement.

Has anyone else dealt with support flat-out lying about the purchase date or warranty just to force a dangerous self-repair? If they keep copy-pasting their scripts, what should my dad and I do? Should we go straight to the European Consumer Centre or the EU Dispute platform?

Any help to break through this wall is appreciated. Thanks!

EDIT / UPDATE:
Bambu Lab support just replied and completely changed their tone. After my dad and I stood our ground and quoted our EU statutory rights, they officially apologized for the "confusion" about the warranty status. They have now escalated the case to a specialist and offered a one-time full replacement service for a brand-new A1 printer unit (keeping my current AMS Lite since it's fine), plus 2 free rolls of PLA as an apology.

It sucks that we had to make this much noise and push through a wall of false "out of warranty" scripts just to get what is legally ours, but standing our ground worked. Thanks to everyone in the community for the solid advice and support! I'll update again once the return label is sent and the new unit arrives.

Ajuda-me! Sou um Puto de 15 anos que está a criar um projeto!

Chamo-me Daniel,

I’m 15 and trying to build a small 3D printing brand from my bedroom

Recently upgraded my setup and started taking my small 3D printing project more seriously.

I design, print and create content around custom products, random prototypes and tech projects while balancing school at the same time.

This video basically summarizes the current state of my life 😂

Setup, printer, projects, zero free time… but honestly I love it.

15 years old, building a 3D printing brand from scratch – StepperLab

Hey everyone,

My name is Daniel, I’m 15 years old, and I’m from Portugal.

Over the past months, I’ve been building my own small 3D printing project called StepperLab completely on my own.

I started with money I saved from small jobs, birthdays, music performances, and other side opportunities. With that, I bought my own equipment and started learning everything from scratch:

  • 3D printing
  • Product design
  • CAD modeling
  • Customer communication
  • Social media content
  • Branding and product testing

StepperLab creates everything from custom keychains and desk accessories to musician accessories, trumpet training tools, and experimental product ideas.

Besides building products, I also create content around the process, mixing education, creativity, and humor to make 3D printing feel more accessible.

I’m still learning every day, making mistakes, testing ideas, and improving.

Not here to sell anything — just documenting the journey and connecting with people who also like building things.

Any advice from makers or entrepreneurs is welcome.
