Braces

Hey guys! I’m looking to see if anyone could recommend somewhere a little cheaper to get braces as I’m 17 and can’t exactly afford the 15k people are talking about 🙃

Bus drivers should not be allowed to shame people for not having money.

I said it. 50 cents might be cheap to you, but some people genuinely can’t even afford it sometimes.

For the first time in months, I only had 20 cents and needed to get home after an appointment. I got a lecture about how it was only 50 cents, and how I had no excuse.

The whole thing basically left me in tears. I was already ashamed, I spent the last of my money on a cup of noodles for lunch.

I can’t be the only one who feels this way.

Help

Okay… new to this subreddit, but freaking out.

I (17F) live at home with my mum (40F) and my stepdad (39M) and I have to pay for my own stuff like food, (my mum gives me dinner at a minimum) bus, clothes, shoes, phone, etc.

I’ve been struggling to find work since I don’t have a reliable mode of transport and I have a curfew of 6:00 (meaning leaving most places at 5:00).

I turn 18 in a few months and my mum has made it very clear to me that if I can’t pay her rent then I can’t live here.

She also lost her healthcare card (my stepdad has a better salary) which makes it insanely difficult to go to the doctors, visit the dentist, etc.

I’m under an insane amount of financial stress and I want to understand what services Centrelink can offer because things just aren’t working out right now.

Anyone able to help?…

Should I be ashamed of my scars?

So… for starters, I’m 17F and I attend church once a week. I don’t actively SH but my thighs are already covered in scars from previous times.

My mum constantly shames me and says that these are going to be on my body forever. Which I knew when I was actively doing it, and I thought I wouldn’t care.

I’m currently wearing a new dress (felt SO GOOD trying it on) but now I find myself constantly tugging it down to cover my lower thigh… it’s too see through to wear shorts underneath as well.

It’s such a beautiful yellow dress, and I feel absolutely disgusting that everyone might see what I did to myself.

My mum has DRILLED it into my head that this is disgusting, that people won’t love me like this, etc… but I want the opinions of other people with scars just like me.

So… should I be ashamed? Will people view me differently? What can I do to make them less visible? What will the people at my church think?…

Guys, why isn’t there a reddit community for teaching basic life stuff?

Cause like… I’m 17, my parents haven’t taught me to do anything, and I just think it’s something a lot of people could benefit from?

Call it smth like “how to adult” and it’s basically all the stuff like

“How to wash clothes in a washing machine”
“How to budget properly”
“How to put air in a tire”
“How to get a tax file number”

Just all useful information for people learning to be adults all kept in one place.

Am I crazy or does this need to be done?? Can someone pull this off?

Conversation with parents

So… I was having a group conversation with my step dad and my mum, and we ended up on the topic of self harm.

The whole conversation was super uncomfortable… they told me “that’s crazy people shit” and that I would scare my future partner off when they saw what I did to myself.

It honestly hurt… I’m currently crushing on
someone and was scared that they would be grossed out if they found out, and now I’m even more scared. Are they right? Am I destined to be alone?? Will he love me if he knows what I did.

I could honestly use a bit of reassurance right now… I’m so scared about asking him out as is, so this whole situation on top of everything is super overwhelming.

The worst part is I go to church and so does he! It’s a MASSIVE no-no! The odds aren’t exactly in my favour…

They threatened to send me to a mental hospital too… I’m honestly just so worried that people aren’t going to look at me the same. Like I’m ruined forever…

Experiences with being honest with mental health professionals??

I think I need help… PROPER help. But I’m so scared to tell anyone about anything… I’m really scared in general, of myself and of what will happen if I do choose to be open. Am I going to a psych ward? Is my phone taken away? My comfort hoodie and plushie? Am I going to get hurt? Will people ever view me the same? Will it affect my ability to work?

I have all these questions and worries swirling around my head but I know that this is probably what’s best for me…

Please, anyone… I’m 17F and im so scared and I just want to know what to expect if I do get help… I know that something is definitely going to happen, I just don’t know what. It’s SH (obv), anxiety, suicidal thoughts… all the “I need to tell someone about this” stuff.

I honestly had a failed attempt a couple of days ago. What scared me was the fact that I wasn’t scared. The fact that I didn’t care what happened to me anymore or how my family or friends would react… I felt nothing.

Anyways, I’m gonna head out to see a mental health professional in about 12 hours, and I’ll have a look at the comments on this post when I wake up. Just so I know what to expect…

At least I’m trying to get better?… that’s a good thing, right?
