The Dragon's Return - A House Targaryen AAR

Hello! I have an after-action report following Westeros after the Reconquest by King Aegon VI Targaryen. It would mean a lot to me if people would drop by and give it a read! I post 1-3 times/week on most weekends, and things are really going to start heating up in the next few chapters!

Fun things to look forward to: Dornish-looking Targaryens, Tully-looking Targaryens, crazy Targaryens, weird succession disputes that actually make sense, and your normal helping of dynastic drama!

Children of Daeron the Daring

Continued from this playthrough: https://www.reddit.com/r/CK2GameOfthrones/comments/1uv00ib/good_green_ending/

In true Targaryen fashion, the heir is a shit who leaves much for wanting, the spare is marginally better, but still batshit insane and envious of his elder brother (the two are rivals), the spare of the spare is exceptional, both as a person and as a potential candidate for the throne, but he was named to the Kingsguard by Daeron.

Princess Alicent (ironically named after her paternal grandmother) is a badass warrior princess who hates the extra patriarchal court of her father, and is lovingly married to Rickon Stark, heir to winterfell.

Both Viserys and Baelon are married to the two daughters of Aegon the Younger and the Princess Helaena.

Good Green Ending

Aemond killed Lucerys, but the AI, for whatever reason, didn't retaliate with Blood and Cheese, so Jaehaerys lived (though not much longer).

Aemond went on a killing spree against Rhaenyra's dragon riders, taking down Hugh Hammer, Rolland Redflame, Princess Rhaenys, and Rhaenyra herself. Aegon and Helaena helped. Aegon was finally defeated in battle by, I want to say, Addam, but escaped only to die in a single combat against a lowborn in the same battle.

Aemond became king (I added the disinherited trait to Aegon's kids because I didn't want to play dragonless children). First thing I did was imprison Aegon's kids and execute them. Then I went on a bloody rampage, defeating Jacaerys, and as the war dragged on long enough, eventually Joffrey, in dragon combat, but, if I recall, Addam's dragon maimed Aemond, causing the One Eyed prince to die soon after, leading to Daeron the Daring inheriting. I married Floris Baratheon (Aemond's widow, who I'm sure was super glad to only have to consummate it with the last and only good son of Alicent).

Tangent: It immediately became a marriage of love and Floris got pregnant 5 times in like 6 years of marriage, birthing silver-haired Targaryens every time.

Around the time of the marriage between Daeron and Floris Baratheon (soon after Aemond died), the warscore finally ticked up enough to declare victory. Daeron ended up taking Aegon/Viserys to ward as his squires, and eventually befriended Aegon, and letting him keep Dragonstone.

Helaena was remarried to Aegon the Younger and, in spite of their age difference, the two ended up having a very happy marriage. Jaehaera (the sole surviving kiddo of Aegon II) married Viserys, and so far they seem to be rather happy. Viserys is a badass warrior assassin in this timeline (Tywin Lannister if he were a little less cruel and 100x more martially adept). Planning to eventually make him Master of Whisperers if/when Larys Strong dies.

Oh, and nobody is plotting (relatively) because almost the entire realm is ruled by children (duels are set to frequent, so LOTS of lords died during the Dance).

Baela married Addam Velaryon and has thus far given him 5 sons, Rhaena married Alyn and has given him 2 sons and a daughter (Daeron took the easy route and chose to forgive everybody for everything).

Wall hanging ant farms?

I'm moving into an apartment without much space but I have a couple larger colonies of small ants (i.e. an 80-100 queen Monomorium Minimum colony). Anybody have any experience making ant farms that take advantage of wall space? I was considering using command strips to hang some smaller nests connected by vinyl tubing to other small nests and a large outworld on my desk, BUT, I also need to make absolutely sure that the ants don't escape/that the nests don't fall from the walls and come disconnected, pouring a little stream of ants into my apartment.

You should keep Monomorium!

There is a huge scarcity of posts about Monomorium ants - most people seem to gravitate towards larger ants like Camponotus, Formica, or medium ants like Lasius.

In my experience, however, smaller more communal ants tend to provide for more interesting viewing, because they demonstrate a lot of complex group behavior.

For example, my Monomorium Minimum colonies are probably my most interesting feeders and nesters.

 1. The entire colony mobilizes to work on larger food sources.
 2. The brood piles get super big and satisfying.
 3. The queens are verifiable egg factories when well fed.
 4. They create food/protein piles in less humid parts of the nest as storage for the hard times/between feedings and work actively to maintain/clean those food piles to prevent them from molding.
 5. They are polygynous, and also practice inbreeding within the nest.
 6. I can't prove this for certain, but it appears that Monomorium Minimum (and is documented in other Monomorium species) can reproduce asexually, as ergatoid pupae in my setup develop into adults when given a small task force of workers from their source colony, and produce eggs that develop into workers.
 7. As long as they're well fed and have enough space, they won't really test your barriers much (or at least, my Monomorium Minimum don't).
 8. Fluon works well on them (unlike some less maintainable species like Tapinoma Sessile).

Now, while some Monomorium are notoriously difficult to contain pest species (i.e. Monomorium Pharaonis), the same is true of other commonly kept ants like Solenopsis Geminata/Invicta/Xyloni. And at least with Monomorium, the stings (in my experience) don't usually produce any significant amount of pain.

Hopefully I've crafted a compelling argument for you to give these super common, interesting, and (in my opinion) under-kept ants a try!

Unity keeps hitting me with an "Activation of your license failed. Try again or contact Unity Support for help."

See the title. I've never had this problem before. I tried to launch a project from the Hub, and it started taking forever to load.

I force terminated the editor and the hub from task manager (this has solved that particular problem in the past), but now, any time I try to open the Hub, I get greeted with the error message in the post title.

I've tried to delete the old license and create a new one, but when I go to Licenses -> Add license -> Get a free personal license, an error message pops up saying "There was a problem activating a new personal license. Make sure you are logged in, and have internet connection."

Okay, I am definitely logged in, and I definitely have an internet connection.

Unity Support is functionally useless, because they invariably want to know how to recreate the problem, and there is no way to recreate the problem on another device - and without a way to recreate the problem, they can't fix it.

I've tried a full uninstall and reinstall of Unity Hub when this issue happened in the past, which worked, but is super tedious and annoying, especially if I have to do it, on occasion, more than once a day.

How do I mod new units into the roster in Empire at War Expanded/Fall of the Republic/Thrawn's Revenge?

Basically, I'm playing with the Clone Wars Unchained sub-mod for Fall of the Republic - Clone Wars Unchained adds a bunch of new heroes, removes the hero limits in base-game (I hate only being able to have like 3 active Jedi/clone commanders at any given time), and adds some post-Imperial tech (for the TK Troopers in The Bad Batch, for example, for Purge Troopers, and for the Inquisitorious).

I was trying to make a sub-mod that scales up battles by having more units per platoon/company - for example, each LAAT unit is now 3 LAATs, each AT-TE is 3 AT-TE's, etc. Pretty simple, nothing complicated, just added the appropriate unit tags/names into the <Ground_Units> tag of the appropriate unit object in the units XML file.

For the droids, I also added large numbers of B1 marine squads to all their different vehicles - this was also pretty simple - just adding tags to the unit definition's <Ground_Units> tag.

Next, I moved on to trying to modify the TK trooper companies - I wanted to decrease their health (simple fix), and increase the number of squads in a platoon (a weirdly complicated fix that I still haven't gotten to work).

It appears that infantry companies use a weird Lua-based spawning system (why?) - after searching through the base FOTR files, I found some things:

 1. There needs to be a Lua script for the unit in "Data\Scripts\Library\eawx-mod-fotr\gameobjects\company-objects" that has a file name matching the unit's tag, but all-caps. This appears to define how many of which companies the Company Spawner script will spawn.

 2. There appears to be a script that spawns companies based off of the initial company: "Data\Scripts\Library\eawx-plugins-gameobject-land\company-spawn\CompanySpawn.lua"

 3. There is a script that has a list of ground companies: "Data\Scripts\Library\GroundCompanyList.lua"

Regardless, it doesn't seem to matter - I just can't get more than 4 squads to spawn per infantry platoon - I actually did a search of all files in the sub-mod including contents, and there's no hard-coded stuff for TK troopers (using the imperial navy commando tag in the files). I've adjusted every file they show up in. They just don't work , and I'm beginning to susepct that the EAWX framework that Corey uses for FOTR hard-codes the 4 squads per infantry platoon limit.

Would people be interested in a mobile app like D&D Beyond and Sectors Without Number?

Basically, I have been working on a tool that allows you to import sector maps generated from Sectors Without Number to view on cell phones.

I also plan to expand it's functionality to allow you to store character sheets on it, make custom house rules, and do rolls (sort of like Roll20's SWN setup). Entirely for my own game. Wondering if other people would be interested enough for me to put it up?
