Has the wax on this lava lamp gone bad?

Purchased this lamp from an online store on marketplace. I wonder if the wax formula has separated or gone bad. It only rises a couple of small blobs that stay at the top. The wax also seems to be translucent when it raises, hard to tell with the lamp being this cloudy. I've never tinkered with lava lamps before. I'm currently waiting for my Sawyer filter to arrive to filter all my lamps. I wonder if this is fixable
