Why Plex confuse titles?

Why does Plex keeps confusing Gilmore Girls with Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life?

I've used Filebot to do the metadata, everything looks good, each folders even have the correct TVDB number and yet Plex gives me Gilmore Girls as 6 seasons (it's 7) and A Year in the Life as a 21 episodes (it's only 4) confusing the first 4 + the GG seasons rest...

I keep reading adding TVDB numbers in {} was the thing to do to keep everything nice and clear. Not impressed so far...

Any idea what's going on here?

Plex cover art

Where does Plex finds its cover art?

I know lots comes from TMDB but not everything. I am trying to manually add poster.jpg in folders while rebuilding my library but I can't find it all. For example, Plex have lots more choice for Gilmore Girls than TMDB.

Also, to do it the right way, how do I differentiate the main image folder of a TV Show with individual images for each seasons?

I am talking manually doing it myself in my folders structure so I don't have to do it all over again If my desktop crashes again in the future...

Thanks!

Rescan speed

I am wondering why lately whenever I rescan my libraries it takes forever. It used to take like 2 minutes or so and now it's like 45 minutes.

I have 3 libraries, Animation, Movies and TV Shows. The first two takes about 5 minutes and then when it comes to TV shows, it takes easily 30+ minutes... Most of the stuff is in the Movies library so the TV Shows is not even that big.

Is that normal?

It's no big deal, I am just wondering what's going on here.

Time Capsule HDD

Hello,

What would be the best place, forum, sub, to get help regarding Apple Time Capsule?

I opened up mine to try to get what is in the HDD but macOS/Finder doesn't recognize it so I would like to investigate further.

Since I never ever had any problems with anything Apple, I don't know where to go for help.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Dead or Alive?

Hello,

I bought 2 Seagate Backup Plus Hub 8TB about 8 years ago and use one and kept the other one as extra storage when needed and I finally open it a few weeks ago (about 8 years later after the fact still sealed in its box).

I put about 2TB of stuff on it and it died after one week. I connected, disconnected, reconnected and so on many times and it just doesn't show up.

I then thought maybe the USB on the enclosure fried or something so I opened it up from the enclosure and put it on my hard drive dock where it does shows up as a D: drive about 1 time out of 5 perhaps but only showed up as a D: without numbers or anything else. The drive logo appears with D: under and that's that.

Crystal Disk Info doesn't recognize it.

Also, If I reboot my desktop while it's plugged on my HDD dock, the desktop just doesn't reboot. The second I disconnect it, it reboot flawlessly. That said, when I take it off the HDD dock there is a magnet force pulling my hand for a few seconds so obviously something is working or alive so not completely dead.

That's all the troubleshooting I thought of doing here as I don't know much about drives or computers for that matter.

Since HDD prices are absolutely crazy now, 8Tb would be very handy so is there something I could do to bring it back from beyond or is it dead, dead, dead...? I don't really care about the data that's on it but I'd like to be able to reformat it to use it again.

Any tips or help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Empty HDD?

Hello,

I have an old 2TB HDD lying around and I can't remember for the life of me what's in it, If anything.

I connected it to my HDD dock station and it doesn't show up in desktop but shows up in disk management. There is no letter allowed but I can't add one as everything is grayed out. The only possibility is to delete the volume. Disk management also tells me there is 100% free space on it.

Does that mean it's empty? I don't mind delete everything (If anything) but I am also curious to know what could be on this disk, again, If anything.

Also, Crystal Disk Info tells me it's good so there's that.

Is my only option to delete the volume and format it?

**********************************************************************************

EDIT

Thanks to someone here who made me think of it, turns out it's a drive that was inside an old Time Capsule I had for years.

Primary drive reading

Hello,

Is there a way to open a primary drive (3.5 2TB HDD) with Windows 10 on it on an external HDD dock station and see it as a it was, ie, as a Windows desktop? Or would it be a zillion folders and I will have to get through everything to get what I want?

My desktop died a few weeks ago and I just got another one and I would like to save what was on the drive before formatting it and using it again.

Problem is my memory is fuzzy and I am not quite sure everything that was on it but I do know that everything I need was on the desktop. So seeing everything on the desktop would be very helpful for copy and paste to another drive.

Open to suggestions.

Thanks!

Wiping 8TB Seagate

Hello,

CrystalDiskInfo tells me I have a bad drive (a very old 2TB WD) and one that is caution (old 4TB Hitachi) so I will use an already full 8TB Seagate that is a now a backup copy of another one but since HDDs are impossible to buy right now and I am poor It is what it is...

The 8TB Seagate I will use hasn't worked in about 2 years since it is now a backup copy but I bought it about 8 years ago and I bought two at the same time. It's full of music.

What would be the best and safest way to wipe it and use it again to replace the 2+4 dying ones I have.

I am asking because, well, I don't know how to do that but, also, the other 8TB I bought 8 years ago at the same time (still following?) which I never used all those years, I finally opened it up last spring (it was new and sealed) and use it for the first time ever. I transferred about 2TB on it and it lasted one week and died... YEAH! Did it died because It was faulty? Did It died because It was too old (yet NOS)? Did It died because...? I have no idea.

Long story short, since they're both the same model and one died in a week, even though the other one lasted 6 years so far, I'll try to do to it the right way to make sure it lasts me a few years until, hopefully, prices of HDDs comes down a tad...

Any suggestions will be appreciated!

Is my HDD dying?

Hello,

I have a WD 4TB My Book for 10+ years full of mostly movies for my Plex and It is acting a bit odd at times so I was wondering If it was slowly dying... Also, does HDD slowly dies or does it dies all at once at it's over? All I know about HDD is they don't last forever.

The few clues I get is there is often a short delay, a few seconds, when I clic a folder and when it opens up. It use to be random but now it's almost always. No big deal but slightly odd.

The other thing is there are movies in it that no matter how many times I scan the drive on Plex, those movies never show/add up in Plex. It's only a few movies (that I am aware of now) but when I tried to delete/erase those movies it's just impossible. Windows doesn't want to it keeps telling me impossible to read from the folder.

Is this the end?

______________________________________________________

EDIT

CrystalDiskIndo tells me that the drive I thought was dying is yellow for caution and another drive I thought was fine is red for bad... What a beautiful day!

Split files

Is there a way to add the same movie in different formats (1080p and 2160p) without having to split them apart once scanned or always have to choose Play Version? I'd rather have 2 different covers than having to choose the version.

Also on the same subject, I have 2 complete The Golden Girls, 1 is my own ripped DVDs and 1 is an AI upscaled 720p. They each have their folders but I would like to split them apart also on Plex without having to do every episodes manually.

How do I do that?

Thanks!

Naming stuff

I have a hard time understanding how naming works. I try adding TV stuff in the TV Shows section sometimes and It just don't work. I then switch it to the Movies section and it works.

For example I downloaded The Golden Girls 40 years special that played on 20/20 and it just won't add in the TV Shows section but It does in the Movies section... Didn't changed anything at all.

Same thing with some music shows. Madonna The Confession Tour doesn't add in Music, doesn't add in TV Shows but adds in Movies... Same file, same title.

What am I doing wrong here? Do I have to change the titles?

Adding chapters

Hello,

I ripped all my The Golden Girls DVDs and I was wondering If there was an easy way to add chapters and/or a skip intro and skip end credits like they do at Disney+, Netflix, Prime, etc.

I am using Plex now but may use something else in the future so I would like something that stick so I don't have to do it again If I change player.

Is there a way to do that?

Thanks!

Record Out Question

Hello,

If an integrated or preamp with an internal phono stage doesn't have a record out but have a preamp out (variable) is there a way to still use the internal phono stage optimally out to an external ADC to digitize your LPs?

My question is can you use a pre out variable to act like a pre out fixed/record out and not loose anything or add noise or something (given you don't touch the volume the whole time you're recording).

I understand the difference between the two but I don't understand the technical ramifications of it all sound wise/noise wise.

Thanks!

Is Nyaderm good for gum?

Hello,

I had some pain in my mouth (lower left side) and after a dental x-ray the dentist told me my teeth are fine, I have a gum inflammation. She prescribed Mycostatin.

Then the pharmacist told me what the dentist prescribed doesn't exist anymore (Canada here). So he gave me Nyaderm instead. Problem is it's some sort of cream that doesn't stick to the gum (or anything really) and after a few days the pain was still there so I went back to my dentist.

She then prescribed a "Magic Mouthwash" that I took for a week and the pain was finally gone.

3 months later, the pain is back and the dentist is on holiday so I have some Nyaderm left so I will try that again in the meantime.

Now, the real non-problem here is, my dentist whom I adored left for retirement and the dentist I saw is super young and new. Which is totally fine with me. But... The vibe I got when I went back telling her the pharmacist said what she prescribed doesn't exist anymore was that she didn't know what to do. Of course that's just a vibe and I could be totally wrong here. She then left for 20 minutes and came back with the Magic Mouth prescription. And when I asked her about the first prescription she didn't really answered me... So, again, vibe... Maybe she's young, maybe she's shy, maybe she really didn't know what to do, maybe I am her first patient ever with that problem, maybe I am a just a grumpy old man (no maybe here!!!), maybe, maybe, maybe...

On the other hand my pharmacist was really upfront and thorough and told me he called the dentist but she never called back so let's try Nyaderm even If it's not what was prescribed in the first place. He also told me it's not ideal to apply on gum.

All this to ask... What do I now since the pain is back? Do I try Nyaderm again? Do I ask for another Magic Mouthwash? Do I change dentist? Will this be back every 3 months?

Is Nyaderm safe and effective even if hard to apply?

Thank you!

NBC opening credits

I know there are more than one source out there for the shows but I just catch for the first time an oddity in the opening credit of S03E19 Golden Moments Part 2 where you see the original NBC logo with headphones saying in Stereo where available. That was on Amazon Prime Canada so I switched to Crave to see if it was the same and it is also the same source. I don't have Disney+ anymore so I don't know if it's the same also there. We don't have Hulu in Canada.

I then put my original DVD but episode 18-19 Golden Moments are one long episode instead of the 2 on streaming and the opening credits are the regular one. Also, haven't watched the DVDs in a long time, since the girls have been streaming for a few years, and it is also obvious the sources are different. Perhaps because the DVDs are 480i and I guess the streamers probably force/fake upload at 1080p.

WiiM for large libraries?

I bought the Wiim Pro Plus but I am not sure it's the right fit for me as I have a large library of my own music (close to 9000 albums/150 000 files).

My setup is/was JRiver/JRemote on a desktop connected to a Arcam rDAC. While I know I still can use JRemote as is through DLNA, I thought Wiim had it's own music "app" within its app as many reviews says Wiim had a great app as good as Eversolo (which I never tried but seem to be the favorite). I mean the app is quick and easy but I thought there would be a more fluid experience for a large library.

Anyone else use Wiim with a big library? How do you do so?

Crave through Prime?

Is it possible to watch Crave through Prime even if you don't have a bundle with them? I have Prime that I pay for and my brother added me to his Crave account that he gets through is bundle with Bell. Yet I see Crave shows showing on Prime that I can watch through their Prime app but the layout is different than the Crave app and faster too.

Am I dreaming this or are The Golden Girls playing on Prime as well as Crave?
