[OC] How Death Stranding Helped Me Heal and Made Me a Better Dad
Link in comments, post approved by the mods, spoilers for both games
Heya sub, just prefacing this by saying I am both the author of the post and owner of the website.
I have been a bit open about the content in the post in this sub over the last few months. I was able to sit down over the weekend and finally put thoughts to paper. Death Stranding 2 just wasn't a video game or an experience, it was a healing journey. And it came at the right time for me.
Keep on keeping on.
Me and my family being kicked out of our rental with 8 months left on our lease because clothes on the bed during an inspection
I'm in a wheelchair and my child was walking around during the inspection. There were also shoes on the bed.
The landlord wants us to pay the remaining 8 months of rent in full.
I'm also a lawyer at the top 1 law firm. But just asking for advice to avoid court.
Blindsighted ~ Karin Slaughter is describe with one word; wow. I can't believe it was her debut novel.
Please no spoilers for its sequel books!
I know I'm ~25 years late to the party, but I just finished Blindsighted by Karin Slaughter. I didn't realise it was her debut novel because it was so well written, it had fleshed out characters and it felt like it had no filler.
I'm in no way saying it's comparable, but the way Slaughter focused on the ins, outs and niches of her characters, it felt like The Living Dead by George Romero and Daniel Kraus. My meaning here is it felt like the characters were the main plot with the murder mystery being the sub-plot.
I picked up the book as a blind buy (no pun intended) and was wowed by it. Although it was published in 2001, it doesn't read as dated, rather I would believe you if you told me it was published yesterday. The only "issue" I have with it was who the killer was became predictable at the end of the first half. But saying that, the ultimate reveal payoff was still satisfying.
I have the the rest of the series (and the Will Trent books) being delivered and can't wait to jump into them.
Crossposting isn't allowed here, so hopefully the link worked.
tl;dr on my OP: finished reading all of Michael Connelly's books, didn't want to read anything else
9 months on and the genres in my library have definitely broadened. It's gotten to the point that I'm not anxiously awaiting the next Michael Connelly book. Over the last 9 months I have read so many books in many different genres. Some notable examples;
- The Andromeda Strain ~ Michael Crichton
- The Old Man ~ Thomas Perry
- The Living Dead ~ George Romero and Daniel Kraus (this was a lengthy journey but glad I finished it)
- Dune & Dune: Messiah ~ Frank Herbert (amazing books that I'll never read again)
- Mr Einstein's Secretary ~ Matthew Reilly (I couldn't put this one down. It also introduced me to the Schofield books)
I picked up Everyone in This Bank is a Thief by Benjamin Stevenson from Target on a clearance. I thought I wouldn't enjoy it. Turned out to be such a fun book that I finish in a couple of days. I have the first 3 books being delivered.
Just want to thank everyone in my original post for encouraging me to keep reading after finishing the Connelly catalog. Also using this to hopefully encourage people in the same boat so they can also keep reading.
