Why do you vote Liberal?

Hey all! Ive got an intresting question for yall here, Ive been eligible to vote since 2020, In 2021 i voted PPC out of protest and voted CPC last time around, so safe to say im a conservitave voter.

However, my question for yall, why do you support the Liberal's? Is there a spefic policy or broad appeal within their platform? This isnt a gotcha, im not going to mock you and ask you dont mock me, im not going to try to change your mind, this is out of genuine curiosity and wanting to understand what others think and how they see things.

Thanks! Looking forward to reading the responses, Have a great day!

I moved to make money, instead, i got broke.

So this part of my life isnt even a week old already, and id say this is worse than when i was homeles.

So a while ago, i got a jib offer from a friend of mine, ive worked for him and his family before without issue, so my only reservation was that it required moving across the country away from all of my family and friends. Long story short, i thought about it for a month, and ended up accepting.

Well the other part of this that youll see why its relevant in a second, when i was yonger, i was never taught what credit is, i was never taught how to budget or anything like that, so i was pretty irresponsible and ran up alot of debt. From 18 to now (24) ive busted my ass to get it all paid off and rebuild my credit because it was so bad i couldnt get a place to live and had to rely on family and homeless shelters, before i moved, i only had $200 left to pay and id be 100% debt free, and i had a modest savings account going aswell.

When i landed here, it was the usual ooo'ing and awww'ing, went fishing and had a great several hour long chat with some random old guys on the peir, and still thought it was great. Then reality set in.

Now in Canada we have single payer healthcare, as a born and raised citizen i pay into and am entitled to the benefits of said system. In theroy whats supposed to happen if your in a diffrent province and have a medical emergency, is when you go to the hospital, they directly bill your Province's healthcare program, but thats not what happened.

My situation wasnt so severe i needed to call 911 right away, but bad enough i needed to get to a hospital, so i tried calling a taxi (No uber, too small) to avoid an ambulance bill (in all provinces except New Brunswick, you pay out of pocket for ambulances) but they arent open at 2am, and its a 1hr walk, having difficulty breathing, i cant walk 1hr, so i gave in and called 911 to get an ambulance, they came and drove me to the hospital. Got in, gave them my healthcard, saw a doctor and was ready to go, then they handed me a bill. Instead of billing my home provinces health program, they told me im responsible for the bill and they cant direct bill them. So now im from $200 in debt and thriving, back into severe debt when you compare it to my expendable income not used for necessities.

Then i get out, come home, sleep for an hour then get up and go to work. That was atleast going alright, i got word that my friends dad is flying in tomorrow to come make the repairs i asked for, but then inspectors showed up, just what i needed. They come in, i show them around, and they spot 2 things, No Fire extinguisher on the 2nd floor, and the attic window is too small to escape through incase of a fire, even though thats only storage and not a guest room. So i was personally fined just over $1000, didnt matter that id only been here less than 1 week, didnt matter i was aware of the problem, provided proof i made the owners aware and had a fix in progress, and was following direct orders from my bosses on what to do, nope, so i got fined and the owners got an even bigger fine.

So in less than 1 week so much progress has been erased, i was doing so so well, i went from Homeless, in debt and flat broke, to housed, and struggling but doing well, to becoming a manager, probably going to be homeless again in a province i dont know, because they will just take your paychecks from you untill their paid back after long enough, and now i cant afford to fly home, and im back into deep debt when compared to income thats not being used on necessities such as food and rent.

Like how tf is anyone doing as well as they are when this is the shit people have to deal with? Like, i understand fire code is fire code, but you saw it with your own eyes, i havent even been here a week, the problem is known and is in the process of being fixed. Also, how tf does a short ambulance ride cost $600? And why cant you just bill the health insurance program from my province directly like your supposed to do according to the agreement all provinces signed, Like seriously, fuck this fucking bullshit.

I love how everyone who isnt my mom or brother always criticize me for my absolute and eternal hatred for the Government. Well youve got this, then you have the years and years of getting fucked around while my mom was battling cancer and unable to work, the number of times they decided that cancer isnt a good enough reason she cant work then just left us high and dry as a kid, even though mom was so weak she couldnt get out of bed most days, yea Government can go fuck themselves, i will never stop hating them with every fibre of my being even after i die.

What do you consider as a far drive?

Recently with all the tourists coming to Toronto from other parts of the world, ive very quickly found out what's considered a short drive here is very much considered not short in other parts of the world. In Toronto my hour and a half long commute is slightly longer than average, but still not much longer than what it is for most people who work downtown.

For me, anything within an hour drive one way is close, even a 2-5hr drive, i wouldnt consider that close but i wouldnt consider it that long of a drive. I dont start considering it a long drive until its 8hrs or longer, but id still drive upto 12 non stop except for gas, no problem.

So im curious, what country are you from, what do you consider to be a far drive, and whats the longest youve driven in a day?

My Uber Horror Story

I live out in a small town, but dont drive, earlier this year i worked in the next town over at a fast food place, during spring and summer, i could ride my e-bike to and from, during winter though id take the bus to work, and take an Uber home, when id need an Uber, because its a smaller town (about 20k ppl) there arent many drivers at midnight when i get off work, so id book before i start my shift, 10-11hrs before pick-up, worked like a charm and was never left stranded, even in blizzard conditions drivers would still show up, until one day my driver didnt.

Did it the same as always, booked before i went on shift, saw that a driver accepted the ride on my first break, and thought nothing of it. Midnight rolls around, everything is shut down, turned off, ive got all my stuff, so i close the door and call the number to let them know to turn the alarm on, walk around to the front, and my ride isnt there, check my phone, driver cancelled, and i knew i wouldnt get another this late at night, and i cant afford a taxi until the auth clears or i get paid at 6am, and my phone is dying very quickly. This was the oh crap moment.

It was the coldest day of the year with Feels Like temps around -52°C with wind gusts upto 70km/h off the lake (Cold enough to give exposed skin frostbite in a few minutes) and i wasnt expecting to be out in that for more than a few minutes, as to say I was not dressed to be outside very long. All i had was a winter hat, my fast food uniform, a sweater, a jacket, a thin neck cover i used as a mask and non-insulated cowboy boots, and all i could do to keep out of the wind was to tuck up against a wall.

My phone didnt last long and i wasnt able to get ahold of anyone, so i decided id try to walk to the fire station and try to take shelter or get help or something there, but only made it a block before I turned back because of the wind. Stood infront of the restaurant doing jumping jacks and pacing to try and stay warm, then decided id walk with the wind to the bus stop that has a heated shelter and is infront of a Tim Hortons that opens at 4am, i figured it was around 1am at this point, 3hrs in a heated shelter seemed do-able, then i can go inside and wait for the first bus back home at 6am.

Walked and made it over to the bus stop, went inside, turned the heater on, and that did absolutely nothing to help, I was still pacing around, doing jumping jacks, just anything to stay moving and stay warm, but it was super drafty so after a while just before 3am i couldnt feel my hands or feet and was violently shivering. So i decided to use the emergency bit of battery on my phone to call 911, wasnt able to say anything after the dispatcher picked up before my phone died again, but they got my GPS ping and 2 cops showed up and got me in the car, braught me to the paramedics station to get checked out, and they just told me to take a long room temperature bath, and the cops drove me home.

I understand its not Uber's fault that the driver cancelled, but thats still their contractor, and knowing that he didnt so much as get a talking to after that annoys me. Its not even like the weather was bad, it wasnt snowing, the roads were clear, it was just extremely cold and windy. If you cant do the ride or do want the ride, dont accept it.

Just to add insult to injury, Uber tried to refund me with Uber Credit, even after explaining to them what happened and asking for my money back in Canadian Dollars, not Uber Credits they still screwed me around and tried to get me to accept the credits, while knowing full well what happened. I did eventually get my real money back, i just dont appreciate being screwed around on a good day, nevermind after dealing with that 💩.

Frustrated with YRT. (Rant)

Im sure most people have seen the post about fares going up yet again, and im sure like me your probably a bit annoyed by that.

We already have the highest fares anywhere in the PRESTO zone (excluding GO), and what we get for those fares is, in my opinion, not worth the high cost. Lets just look to our neighbors, such as the TTC, who operate a vast network of busses, run 3 heavy rail services, 2 "rapid transit" light rail services, streetcars and a network of express and overnight busses, their fares are $3.35. Maybe we could look to the more comparable Peel agencies, MiWay in Mississauga and Brampton, their fares are $3.50 and $3.55, those agencies also operate a large network of local routes and express busses.

I think part of the issue is YRT spends all their money on pretty looking infrastructure (then forgetting to enable TSP along the rapidways) instead of taking the Peel Region approach, where instead of building big pretty looking bus stations all over the place, they instead focused on making the service good. If service is good, then people dont mind so much if your bus terminal does not have all the latest and greatest stuff, theyll only be there for a few minutes, besides, big beautiful infrastructure isnt what gets people to use your bus based transit service, its frequency, speed, comfort and reliability.

Then youve got the vehicles, tell me why MiWay, Brampton and even the TTC have had charging ports on some of their busses for a while now, but YRT has only very recently started having them installed on new deliveries? Stuff like this is such a very simple very easy quality of life improvement they couldve been doing all this time, The new padded seats are something they couldve done a while ago too, vinyl isnt new, All this stuff adds up.

Idk its just frustrating to see them not go after the very easy low hanging fruit. Idk, if they did things such as roll out Transit signal priority along VIVA routes so busses no longer get stuck at red lights, or maybe significantly improved service not just on VIVA routes, but local routes aswell. If your just going to keep raising fares, you gotta give us something more for that, otherwise, dont be surprised when only those who have no other option are the only ones riding your bus.

We arent stupid, we can look to our neighbors, see that they are getting a better service for less, and realize we are being ripped off.

Edit: Got more, A great example of money being spent wastefully and poor decisions, see Cornell Terminal. Why is it so big? Why so fancy? Why is is not closer to the Hospital? Lets say you move it to be right next to the hospital and you relocate some parking, now you can build a cheaper modern but modest terminal, such as Brampton Gateway, where it shouldve been buit to begin with. Take whatever youve saved from not building a giant white elephant, and use that to buy more vehicles and hire more operators to improve service. Dont get me wrong, Cornell is beautiful, but its excessive for its location.

Dear people who think flashing your lights will make the light go green.

Dear: People who think flashing your highbeams at a red light or approaching a red light will make it change.

Did you guys know that doing this does not work? The systems that are used where i live to detect emergency vehicles and change the lights detect a very very spefic strobing pattern, that your cars headlights will almost certianly not be able to replicate no matter how hard you try.

Sitting at a redlight flashing your highbeams over and over, that are angled straight at the eye level of oncoming traffic is blinding and f@#$%*g annoying, and twice as annoying when its a semi doing it behind me and blinding me through the mirrors repeatedly. So now you know, it does not work, its pointless, it annoys other drivers, it could confuse other drivers, since usually high beam flashing is a warning that something is going on ahead, or you telling them their high beams are on.

So please, Stop doing this, it dosent work.

Edit: This is happening in the Toronto area, and to clarify we use opticom sensors for emergency vehicle detection, its very common here, This guy gives a quick TLDR on how they work and shows what they look like.

What do you consider to be "The GTA"

This may be a bit niche, but over time ive heard several diffrent definitions of what people consider to be included or excluded in the GTA. Sure the census defines it, but the census also gives Oshawa its own CMA, and excludes places like Hamilton and Burlington, though most people would presumably and reasonably consider it part of the GTA.

So, where do you draw the line?

How can anyone survive on 3hrs per 2weeks?!?!

So i accepted this job back in March, my first two weeks went smoothly, got full weeks in, no extra days off, made friends with people on my shift, got along great with the team leaders and supervisors, everything was good.

Well, at the end of April, i got 8 consecutive extra days off, and now im on day 11 of extra days off. I was supposed to work 6pm-5am today since i agreed to pick up extra hours to make up, but yea no, they cancelled my original part of the shift, and wont let me out of the extra hours, so now il be spending 4 and a half hours on the bus, and another hour walking to and from the bus stop, just to work 3hrs.

Like this was supposed to be a full time position, scheduled to work 44hrs/week, yet ive only actually worked full time hours for 2 weeks of the 3months ive worked here. Only had to call in sick twice when i got the flu, so its not even that im having medical issues, they just keep canceling all of my shifts.

How is anyone supposed to be able to live off scraps like what theyre giving me? Already i wont be able to afford my rent next month, already cant afford food this month, had to borrow to keep my cellphone connected, and its not even like im living above my means, i live as cheaply as i can.

When i was homeless and living in the shelters, I got just shy of $1000/mo through employment insurance, at first i made over double, but now, i make less than that, and people who run businesses as these guys do turn around and wonder why nobody wants to work for them. Its not that i don't want to work, im literally itching to work, but you keep canceling my shifts, which is only going to lead to me quitting when i find a new job.

Fuck off grammar police

its sO annOying on reddit where il have an idea or have something i want to say, il slap it together in a post in a relevant community, make sure its coherent enough to be readable and off i go.

Last night i made a post after getting home from work about Delivery Kamakaze's (Food delivery eBikes that ride recklessly) and how the police need to crack down on them. Was there lots of issues with the grammar and punctuation? Yes, but did it still get the point across? Also Yes.

But No no, instead of talking about what i was talking about in my little rant, nope, everyone is gonna sit there, oh this period, this comma, this capitalization is incorrectly placed, why did you use this word and not this longer more impressive looking word instead? You must be illiterate.

How about this, its fucking reddit, this is not a university essay, its not a business email to my boss, its a post on social media, so no im not going to sit here and meticulously make sure everything is perfectly worded and all the punctuation is perfect, as long as its legible and gets my point across, good enough. So Fuck off Karen, go jack off or something and leave me alone.

TPS NEEDS to crack down on Delivery Kamakaze's.

Just ti be clear, Not all delivery riders are Delivery Kamakaze's, there are lots of riders like myself who do deliveries on eBikes, but, were actually safe and responsible on the road, even if it means you have to wait a little bit longer and i get a smaller tip.

As a way to make some extra money on the side, i used to go Downtown to do deliveries on my bike last summer, but this year i decided not to try again, why? The scheer number of times these absolute morons took me out, or nearly took me out and their general idiocy constantly blowing my mind, infact, when riding downtown, its not the cars im worried about, ive had few issues with them, as most drivers seem to be expecting bikes and watch for us, its these Kamakaze's im most worried about.

They dont look when pulling away from the curb, they are distracted while riding, They dont obey red lights or stop signs, Theyll go lane filtering up the middle of traffic at full speed, Theyll pass cars, trucks and busses with their right turn signal flashing on the right if you give them the chance. To other cyclists in narrow bike lanes, oh they dont care, theyll knock you over trying to pass you when there is clearly not enough room. Pedestrians in the crosswalk? 10 points a peice and it dosent seem to be just a joke to them as it is to any normal person.

I honestly prefer to get around by Bike over any other method of transportation when Downtown, but i just wont take the risk with these absolute morons getting away with this absolute fuckery. Toronto Police need to crack down harder than the americans did on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in WWII, not just for a week, or a month, but a year, 2yrs or ideally, permanently, and they need to start Yesterday. Start seizing or 14 day impounding bikes for reckless operation, start handing out hefty tickets for violators, start laying charges for careless operation of a motorvehicle casuing injury in situations where someone's hurt.

Morons on the roads arent just driving cars, some of them got too many DUI's or just never chose to get a drivers license for their own reasons, and choose to terrorize the streets on 2 wheels instead, its about time the cops realize that.

Im a 24yo blue collar, working class dude living in Canada, Politically i consider myself to be a conservative (Conservative not MAGA). I recently just lifted myself out of homelessness, and spent a few years struggling and getting moved from city to city in the shelters.

P.S Be Kind to me and il return the favor, even if we disagree, be an ass and youll be ignored.

P.S.S, Im just a rando not a political expert, expect mistakes, contradictions or for me to just not know about some topics.
