Excited to start this game soon. But before I start guide recommendations?

I’m on an Old RPG binge, I’m currently working my way through another game but I’m really excited to start this game after.

I’m playing the version on the Snes classic. (Ie when it was localized as Final fantasy 3.)

Edit: Ok I will try it without a guide. However as someone who tends to enjoy things more with guides. If the game starts getting too frustrating I will just use one of the recommended guides. Which I also appreciate.

Tips for going into this game?

Title, while I still need to beat the post game I played through and enjoyed pokemon reborn recently. And Rejuvenation being similar vibes makes it appealing even if not done. I figured I’d try it with the new version dropping.

Also gen 9 pokemon being added cool.

I assume stuff from reborn also carries here. Catch all the mons you can so you have anything if you need a niche for a boss fight, Read up on field effects ect.

Tips for run and bun?

Hello I am very bad at pokemon. However I am unfortunately extremely addicted to both the planning and execution aspect of harder rom hacks.
For reference I once spent three hours theory crafting and planning a fight and had a blast doing so. (This is why I’m even remotely interested in run and bun. Everyone’s like “ugh spreadsheets and calculators.” I’m like “OH BOY SPREADSHEETS AND CALCULATORS!”

So I wanna do it for run and bun. I do not expect to get at all far. I pretty much plan to do attempts till I get bored. But would love to hear tips.

My personal goal is to get past Norman. Not first attempt just in general.
That’s really it.

Anyway to save a backup save?

Ok tl:dr I made a very messy E4 team
(Lopunny, Metagross, Gliscor, Naganadle, Staraptor with out endevor, and Volcarona.)

That managed to albeit with X item and healing item support barely managed to beat the E4. But I don’t think it can beat Lin 3. Which matters because even though my plan is to do Lin’s route. I do eventually wanna do anna’s route one day.

So I know about the anna’s wish backup save. But is there anyway to save one of my E4 backup saves. So I can just lose in the E4 and build a better team if I ever wanna do the Anna’s wish route?

Anything I should keep in mind going into post game?

Basically the title.
I just finished the main game today (which I made a post about but still)
and while I am probably gonna take a few day's of a break because this was a long ass game. I do wanna do the post game.
I know about mutliple 6 v 12 scenario's and that the post game really amps up the difficulty (Which consideirng how much the elite 4 kicked my butt... not looking foward too *nervous laugh*) But I've been hooked by the character's at least to see the conclusion to their arcs in the post game. Honstly might start spamming item's at this point.
But anything else to keep in mind?

Main game beaten

I brought a team that was ass against Lin 2. (And lin 3 but I intentionally lost that one lol.)

And had to basically item stall with revives till arceus fainted it’s self on life orb procs.

Probably gonna take a break and then do the post game. How will I beat Lin on anna’s wish? No clue. Hoping if I faint I can just like go back through the elite 4.

Pokemon recommendation's for the elite 4?

Beat Victory road, now trying to plan for the elite 4.

Currently a few potential consideration's are Mimikyu, Metagross, Volcarona, And Rotom-Wash. But I know the Elite 4 is not gonna be easy. Especially since my usual tactic of build a team for specific fight's isn't gonna work. (eventually I hope to get better at building team's for gauntlet fight's. probably the next skill I'll work on for poekmon.)

Personally not a fan of using item's in fight's but the final fight's have been so tough (For me. Cause I'm not the best at pokemon) that I've had to break out item's like revives and potion's. So probably will in the elite 4. But at least don't wanna feel like the only reason I won was due to item spam.

Advice for Pokémon for victory road?

Figure’d I’d ask before I got too much further. Trying yo think of a team that can handle the three major fights. But just need some advice in Pokemon.

Wanna try to think of the full team myself bjt could use pointers. i wish victory road had check points or something.

all 18 badges obtained, preparing for the elite 4 tm.

All 18 badges done.
I'll admit badge 18 took me a few tries, though this is admitedly due to stubborness.
I just didn't feel like changing up my team. So with a focus sash and full restore later. I beat the 18th gym leader.

I will say this game's writing did improve IMO after gym 13. Still not like in love with it. (And honestly Saphira started getting on my nerve during the tournament. Not that I don't get why. But understanding, and still finding annoying. Are two differnt thing's.) but still.

anyway's a few thoughts as I start traversing victory road. (I know I'll probably need to backtrack to rebuild teams for the 3 final fights with Sirius, Blake, and Fern.)

man the Sylveon side quest almost made me cry. Hug this poor girl.
Catching all non-legendary pokemon was insanely tedious, I do not think I will ever be doing that again, (This is not a reborn exclusive thing.)
Man Terra without fonts suuuucccckkkkeeeedddd. Doesn't help I couldn't hit the cap because I forgor to grab more exp candies. So she was out leveling me.

Team meteor beat my ass with pulse 2's as well.
I will denote I'm still enjoying the fight's even if it seem's like I'm complaining.

Elite 4 is gonna probably be super tough, Probably gonna take me awhile to plan. And honestly will probably be a fight I ask for more help on. (Again more just pokemon recommendation's rather then team recommendation's. I Do wanna form a full strategy my self using said pokemon recommendation's. I do not want to just be told a strategy.)

I might do a Gym leader tier list rating what I think of them. (As character's not as fights.)

Anyway's taking a break from reborn for today to focus on other things. But hopefully will be back tomorrow with news I beat the Elite 4. Or made it through victory road. One or the other. depends on how long Victory road is, (I am skipping the puzzles. I saw them, and was like "nope these do not look fun screw that.")

POST GAME PLANS:
For reference I know there are multiple path's. And I pretty much just plan to do the recommended "Lin reshiram with determination" route. before doing Anna's wish route. (I've done all the prerequisents and so the only thing I gotta do if I'm reading this right is just lose to Lin's 3rd fight.)

Honestly playing Reborn makes me wanna try Rejuvination. But I also know the game's not complete and I'll likely end up needing to restart my save when it is complete. Soooo yeah that is holding me back from doing that.

Any advice for a late game fight?

Planning for the glass workshop gauntlet, i don’t want like full team’s. As I do wanna do most the planning myself.

But I do think recommendations for useful pokemon would be appreciated. Especially to help planning.

I’ve gotten pretty much every pokemon you can. (And I’ve not yet entered the workshop so I can still go catch things if need be.)

Edit: Beat it. Thanks everyone!

16 gyms down 2 more to go! I'm in the home stretch.

Figured I'd share my thoughts as I just finished the 16th gym. (my team)
a few thoughts because the section is really brief in the story I can talk about.

  1. Man poor Taka, just when things where looking up. he dies

  2. FINALLY MAGIKARP

  3. Man poor Titania, at least she dumped Amaria.

  4. Damn I can't believe Reborn has me hating a gym leader more then Lin. (Because yes Lin does horrible shit. But personal reason's Amaria rubs me the wrong way and she's not a villain which makes it worst.)

Honestly Amaria's was a gym I overthought to hell and back. I just needed 4 pokemon. Beedrill, gastradon, lanturn, and Ludicolo.
Beedrill and Gastradon did most the work. Beedrill hitting hard as pokemon switched in, baiting a water move or ineffecctive move on gastradon, and pivoting to gastradon, who's storm drain or natural bulk would help. (Plus it did have recover.)
Lanturn was specifically only there to stop lapras. Underwater discharge scary yo.

Hilariously her choice spec Ludicolo helped me more then her.
every time gastradon took down a pokemon, it came out to gigadrain, so I switched into beedrill on a gigadrain which did basically nothing. the AI then switched ludicolo because it was locked into a not-very effective move... into mega-beedrill x-Scissor. Which did a crap ton of damage.

Titania's gym was a gym I did end up struggling with though lol. It came down to my last pokemon.

and now I kinda know what's coming up due to the guide i'm following. in after I finish explorting... the glassworkshop gauntlet.
That is gonna send me into the planning mines.

how's mimikyu fair late game?

I just grabbed the Mimikyu in the desert. And Funnily it was Shiny first attempt. While i'm not a fan of reborn's shiny mimikyu (because I adore the monochormic offical shiny.) I still really like mimikyu and wanna use it. So was wondering how it faired in late game fight's. I'm thinking it and the (Also shiny) Metagross Are locks for my E4 team assuming it goes into it well. But wanna double check how good it is first. I'd imagine it's good because I think? this is pre-nerf disguise. And pre-nerf disguise is busted as an ability. For the obvious "free set up for the first turn." reason's. Plus it gets priority moves, has perfect neutral coverage with it's two stab typings and so on.

More thoughts on this game as I get ready to tackle the 14th gym (kinda.)

for context, I just beat devon courp? But I know I have a few side quests to wrap up before going to fight Adrienn proper.

the game's difficulty for me is really ramping up, especially with the guantlets. the 12 v 8, the 12 then 12 but again before Ciel was brutal. Then the double battle into single battle with no heal was also rather brutal and took me a few tries (And item's which I usually don't like using but have used them in fight's before lol.)

admitedly for the most part, up until gym 8, most gym's took me a single try, now they've all taken like 2 or more. (though never more then 5 as I work out kinks in my stratagy, or realize a pokemon is not gonna work so sub it in for a pokemon that does the job I need for the fight better.)

Victoria, and DJ arclight took me a few tries, (mostly because I didn't plan them out ahead of time and ev trained mons specifically for them like I usually do, so just had to make do with what I had on hand, and what I had EV trained.)

Though ZEL, was reletively easy in comparison. (Or felt like it too me. But then again I had Alolan Muk which walled their Psychic types, Snorlax to wall their glacion, And I made a Plan to make sure they weren't setting up stealth rocks.) The Pulse magnazone was the easiest to plan for because well, Mega-Camerupt walled it well enough and 2 shot with lava plum.

But I know about later on fight's in this game being 6 v 12's and oh boy I am not looking forward to them. (mostly because my team building isn't the best. I like to think I'm getting better at it, but lol. probably not.) my plan is too more or less try beat the main story and post game at least once.

But onto story thoughts: still not vibing with the story, but it's getting more opimtistic so easier to get into for me. I still very much vibe with the character's though. Well Except Amaria. (Yes I dislike this character enough to specifically highlight and target her.)

However I think my biggest issue with reborn is: it's REALLY LONG. Sure you can chalk a lot of my 100+ hour play time to doing side quests and the like, but the game feel's like it's designed around you doing those side quests to help make later fight's more managable unless your really good at pokemon.

now this can be a positive too other's. And yes I've enjoy'd most my time. But considering I still have 5 gym badges, and a brutal post game to get through (which I'll be honest I might end up asking for tips here if I get stuck on fight's) I wouldn't be surprised if it hit the 200+ hour mark. which to me feel's too long for a pokemon game. Especially when I've not been as hooked into the story as I'm sure other's are at this point.

I applaud the effort that went into making this game. just because I think it's too long doesn't mean it's a bad thing. It's just something I'm gonna warn friends about due to it being a time sink.

so TLDR currently my thoughts at 13 out of 18 gym badges are (and you can ask me for futher clarification or on stuff i forgor about)

- the game's challenge is getting higher, but I'm still enjoying it. Though stuff I hear about the post game scares me. (notably so many 6 v 12's)

- The story while not getting ot me, I do like the character's and the optimistic vibes are Improving and making it easier to get into.

-However I feel the game is so long that it's vering into overstaying it's welcome terratory. But that's a personal thought, and I'm sure other's enjoy the lenght.

I saw this fame added egg move transference is that true?

Was looking into some things. (Mostly because I have a shiny Quagsire I wanna get recover on and breeding a new one sounds like it’d take a hot minute.) and The wiki says egg move transference was added into this game? Was that true? or just wiki being wiki? (That is to say liable for misinformation.)

How easy is it to optimize pokemon?

I’ve been playing a relatively hard pokemon game recently and been enjoying it. But they also make it super easy to optimize pokemon (train up EV’s quickly, level grind, change natures etc.)

And I was thinking of taking on one of the harder difficulties depending on how easy it is.

How does metagross fair in this game?

Simply the title.

Wanted to ask because after this current gym I can do the beldum puzzle. (I might have looked up how to get my second favorite psudo legendary. Only beat by T-tar.)
I adore metagross as a psudo, don’t get the chance to use it in a play-through often. And even though I like a lot of steel types. (magnamite and Lucario are in my box as my favorites so far) Metagross is one of my all time faves.

So was wondering how it fairs against the last 5 gyms, the e4, and the post game. Because uh Once it enters my party it’s not leaving if I can help it.

(And If possible I am going to be resetting for a shiny. Because Reborn shiny metagross is reallly cool.)

I have been stuck on this puzzle of an hour.

Sliding puzzles are not fun. Anyone know how to get that last bit into place?

I struggled quite a bit with the 10th gym.

The damage in this gym is wild it feel's like you NEED to outspeed and oneshot or else you'll be swept. Especially with his Hawlucha and blaziken that can get out of control with how fast they are. (Granted Dusclops is one of the few mons that can wall them if you have an intimidate user.) I actually struggled a lot since I didn't want to use item's (especially after I only won against the ring master due to spamming them.)... and then I remembered I caught a Fletchling. and I kicked myself. Because After I remembered that, I made sure it had max atk ev's was at the level cap and ability capsuled it, had medicham take out the lead haryama (Due to rocky helmet) after foretress set up spikes for lucario... and then I clicked acrobatics which had priority due to Galewing 5 times and won. Can't outspeed priority moves lol.

like, this gym feel's exceedingly hard to deal with due to his mons basically doing so much damage. My previous attempts all died because I couldn't find a way to reliably deal with Blaziken getting speedboost as well as hawlucha. My intimidate mon only could take so much punishment before getting K.O.d and Even those without abilities that rig the roll in his favor, the randomness of the damage makes it so hard to predict. It could one shot a mon that you really don't want it to oneshot.

this struggling to figure out a consistant plan to deal with both blaziken and Hawlucha, is why I was kicking myself when I realized I had the fire birb in my box. (I have like multiple box full of pokemon. So I don't remember everything I have immedeatly.)
Like I'm sure there are other ways around this (I know people do mono types of this game). But uh, gale wing Talonflame was how I got through it this time.

But will say this might be the first field I activly dislike. Samsons team being built to abuse it aside, I just don't like how much damage can very and 3x damage is a bit uh insane.

Some personal thoughts on the story so far.

To Note: i've only gotten up to the 9th badge. I'm heading through route 2 now. But I figure I'd talk about my feeings of the story.

Personally: I'm not a fan of this story so far. Overall the story just isn't the kind I prefer. The story is really bleak and sometimes mean spirited (looks at Kiki). It feel's like for the most part it kinda lack's like, a more optimistic P.O.V? like some character's are optimistic in a way. Cain and Shelly do be more on the optomistic end. But most character's are just kinda really pessamistic. Just kinda doesn't do much to me. it just feel's really old internet. I won't call it edgy, because the dark moments are at least trying to serve a point. (well most the time. The electro therapy doctor who torments kids feel's a bit over the top. But I hope he gets more punishment.)

Now if people like the really dark tone dat fine. Just because a story isn't speaking to me, doesn't mean I don't get why someone could like it.

Though while this story isn't the kind I like, I will say it is a kind I find enjoyable to laugh or poke fun at. OVerly dark stories aren't something I'm a fan of writting wise. But can find them exceptionally entertaining.

However, there is one thing I DO enjoy about the game writing wise: the character's.
Cain, Ace (I enjoy them so much I've commissioned art of them :>), Julia, Victoria, Shelly, and quite a few other's. There's a lot of character's so it's hard to remember all the names off the top of my head. The character's I enjoy, and the fun gameplay (well fun with what I have on. Level caps and Max iv's because if I didn't have those on I'd hunt for them.) Help keep me going if even the story is a miss.

or tl;dr the writing is a mixed bag for me, and I might be the first person who's in the middle of the road in terms of the writing. (joke. In terms of me being the first. With how many people there are I would be surprised if I was the first.)

And again if you feel differently about the story, that's fine. In fact I'm curious to hear about what you like about the story (so far. no story spoiler's please.) I enjoy hearing about positive things rather then like negative things.
