WARNING: Do NOT buy Priceline’s rental insurance (RentalCover.com) — loops and technicalities to deny your claim
I’m writing this post to warn anyone considering booking a rental car through Priceline and adding their optional rental collision/damage coverage (which is underwritten by RentalCover.com / Cover Genius). Do not waste your money. They will take your payment instantly, but when an actual incident occurs, they will look for any technicality to deny coverage.
Here is what happened to me:
I rented a vehicle via Priceline and added the recommended rental protection plan at checkout.
During the rental period, an accident occurred.
I returned the car to the rental company (Alamo).
Because Alamo processed and formally timestamped their damage report after I handed over the keys, RentalCover.com rejected my claim.
They are hiding behind the technicality of the timestamp on the rental agency's post-return report, claiming the document date/time falls outside the active window—even though the damage explicitly occurred during the rental period while the car was in my possession.
When you rent a car, the rental agency rarely prints or completes full damage administrative paperwork the second you hand them the keys. Expecting a rental agency's internal incident report to perfectly match your return timestamp is completely unrealistic, and RentalCover uses this technical loophole to avoid paying claims.
