2nd kydex attempt

Waxed Wing Nymph. Love the knife, 10/10 would recommend and there was absolutely nothing wrong with the original sheath. I just wanted something with a little extra panache suitable for a ‘Prince knife’ The original is pretty much the exact same form factor. Might get a sheet of some purple paisley custom infused in the future. This kinda reminded me of the floral pattern off the Purple Rain LP and matched the knife well enough. The knife itself is awesome though and if I’m not working I’ll just drop it in pocket as is.

2nd ever leather craft attempt

Im a professional high end finish carpenter (think like custom cabinets, crown molding, layered trim work/ built ins for rich people) for years I always used a pica pencil but as i progressed in skill i wanted a smaller diameter lead, picas ultra fine was too fine.

I landed on a Kaweco Special Brass 2mm Pencil that has zero plastic internals even the lead tube is brass (GET THIS PENCIL 2mm gives a lot of refill color options for marking diff materials too) but it lacked the little pocket holster which makes the picas so great. I searched everywhere, i really dont think anyone is making these due to the im sure extremely low demand.
A guy quoted me 100$ to make me one, did some math and decided i could buy more than all the stuff i need to try it myself and was already interested in doing so.

Im really enjoying this process and have decided get into it. I know this one is also bad, but the first one worked perfectly until my stitching failed at the bottom, hence the weirdness on this one, i was trying to reinforce. I did this at like 2 am after a long day so my saddle stitching needs refined, first attempt with that here. And im researching proper cutting tools and purchased beeswax to burnish the edges.

So far I’ve amassed 2 very cheap sets of pricking irons, stitching needles/ thread recommended by someone in this sub, an arbor press, a cool folding Olfa cutting mat, and some of those things to cut radii. (As seen attempted to use for the first time here!)
I have a cheap punch pad coming but have just been using scrap to not destroy my cheap irons. Researching cutting instruments for better results and those layout things that pre score the line used for pricking iron placement.

Building a stitching pony this weekend out of the infinite scrap lumber pile ive accumulated over the years, so i can say ‘i knew i saved this board for a good reason.’ Also have all the hardware to make that in the shop. I was thinking one that sits on the floor is what im gonna go with and not one of the table top ones.

Feel free to roast, or i would love constructive criticism and any advice. I want to work my way up to knife/ tool sheaths & gucci bags. Thank you!!!!

Sorry if this doesn’t qualify

I paid to have my Gf’s brake pads done about 5 months ago. 2017 Toyota rav xle. I usually do them myself but I’m a trim carpenter and had a lot on my plate at the time. Yesterday she calls me while I’m working a side job and says her breaks went out, literally the largest intersection in the pretty decent sized city. She rolled into an amigos parking lot.

Anyway down there and see a fucking monstrosity. Just worked 10 hour and basically beg amigos to not tow and let me sort it out in less than an hour this morning. I was just like ‘listen, times are rough for legit everyone right now especially people like us. I give you my word, here’s my name and number. If not I understand and ill personally have it towed right now’

Dude. Whatever mechanic forgot a set a clips on one of the pads, exterior pad front passenger looked like this. I don’t know if he didn’t install them at all or didn’t install them properly, but each one of these pads is supposed to have technically two sets of clips. (if that’s not the proper term sorry like I said I’m a carpenter either way Shit was missing) It was 98° before 10 am today. Shout out to Amigos.

Titanium vero engineering clip on the slate Waxed Wing Wisp

Talk about disappearing in your pocket. It’s like they were made for each other. Just got the knife today. Wow it is a slicer, hair popping. Im a pacifist but next time the bramble is available I’ll fight someone for it, warning, I’m feeling a June 28 1998 hell in the cell undertaker choke slamming mankind through the top of the cell type of vibe though. Totally kidding i would never, everyone should pick any of these wonderful knives up.

First post on this sub

I came across this maker like 2 days ago on this sub, was on his site and ordering knives within 10 minutes of learning it existed. I'm a big fan of pocket fix blade knives, also just supporting small businesses/artist. I'm pretty sure I got the last one because this color way was marked sold out after I purchased it. I don't think I've been this excited to get a knife in the mail in years amazing maker so cool, polite, responsive, so hype to get this in the mail.
The engraving on it was 100% my choice and does not reflect the views of the maker in any capacity. If it in any way offends someone, direct your disgust towards me only and not the maker of this beautiful knife.

Maker: Waxed Wing
Model: Chitin (cobalt blue)

M18 table saw to worktop mount

Custom m18 table saw to packout worktop mount. Found a dude online who makes these cool powder coated brackets that attach the saw to a worktop using the factory bolt holes. Way less sketchy than my previous method. This combo works great pairing the saw with a set of drawers and one of the 4 wheel dollies.

iPad + Magic Keyboard question

New iPad running dev beta 26

So when using my iPad when i send iMessages to friends and family i like to use the handwritten feature. The one that also allows you to send doodles.

Is there a way i can bring up the onscreen keyboard or even just a shortcut to that when my iPad is connected to the Magic Keyboard? I’ve just been disconnecting it which brings up the onscreen keyboard, would love to not have to detach it every time i send an iMessage

Whoever has the answer to this thank you so much youre awesome. I’ve done some looking but cant find an answer. Whoever has the answer I’ll make an illustration of your choosing in procreate, but im putting a one hour time limit on the draw time.

Thanks

Newbie

I’ve never worked with paracord/ tied lanyards. A friend gifted me this cool flamed Ti bead. Does anyone have a cooler/ better way to tie this. I want to keep it slim and I just made this knot up. Using this thinner stuff. Thanks for any input and sorry if this question annoys anyone.

Can’t remember the last project i made for myself. Due to random luck came across some special lumber. Can you guys help me brainstorm a heirloom piece?

Recently for work the boss sent a project for a single 36” custom birch kitchen cabinet lower across my desk on a super super tight timeframe including stain match. Needed to match existing on going install due to a ‘project manager’ who cant read a tape measure or whatever dumbassery they subjected me to. I was worried about finding the lumber i needed locally after making a bunch of calls with long lead times. (Contract included completion time) All my go to places were cleared out of birch, it was weird. So i threw a Hail Mary and ordered 2 pieces of S4S 1”x8”x6’ online from the fastest place i could find. Also the only option for birch from this particular vendor.

Ended up finding some really acceptable birch local, from a place i had never heard of before based on another carpenter buddy’s rec. So started the project with that and I’m going to finish this on time this week. I also have so much other stuff on different burners in various phases, so please don’t trash talk time frames. All the while i totally forgot i ordered this random other stuff.

This is where im looking for input. The lumber i ordered online arrived today, i am shocked. Not only is it dead straight, exact dimensions, beautifully finished and packaged amazingly. Both pieces are fully figured/flamed/curly whatever you prefer calling it. Even after showing my boss he told me to keep it, on him, to do with as i please (purchased on company card).

Any cool ideas of stuff to build with it based on the amount i have on hand? As far as shop tools go I’m playing with a full deck. I almost want to do some sort of wall installation just so i can hang it up and stare at the shit. If you read this long thank you and i would really appreciate any serious input/ideas. Can’t even remember the last time i built something for myself so i want to make it count.

Limited bloodshot vinyl

Anyone know how large of a piece of the white flag from the video is coming with the vinyl? Hoping it’s something frame worthy. Honestly I’ll frame whatever it comes with, such badass song/ video/ idea for a limited drop.

Found these items in my 5 year old’s safe.

So i was going through my kindergartener’s firearms safe looking for vapes and found a couple things that are causing some concern. He’s been acting kinda strange lately, but not really i guess? Last weekend he told me his existence on this planet doesn’t matter and something about a speck of dust on a speck of dust. He also said the only thing that truly matters is having a positive impact on those around you but in the grand scheme of things I’m ‘just a blip or a fraction of a blink in the timeline of the universe.’ Poor guy is having self esteem issues i think. After that he said he could see the tree in the backyard breathing. I have a bachelors in fine art so im just happy he’s taking an interest in different printing techniques, just not really a practical paper selection. Also, thank god he’s not an antivaxxer! It kind of looks like the figure on the right is vaping though, what do you guys think?

First Giantmouse purchase

I haven’t carried a fixed blade in years, even though i def should be. Im a carpenter by trade and use my knife daily and kinda beat the snot out of them. My go to was a Microtech Hellhound the for like 4 years. The past 2 one of their newer cyphers. Yeah it requires a little maintenance about every month. Just blasting with an air compressor and some rem oil, but i love that knife and it has been more than reliable for me. Giantmouse has been on my radar for a long time just because i love the look of the gmf-1, but today I came across an offer I feel like i couldn’t pass up. I got a GMF-3 with the green micarta w/ original sheath for 35USD, not a scratch on it.

Although im not the biggest fan of the aesthetics of the knife, just really seemed like a good deal unless im missing something. I will admit it has kind of a dope middle eastern vibe going on so I’m going to give it a try in the EDC. I know very little about the brand but just joined the sub/ first post. Does anyone have any recommendations? Different scales? No scales? Sheaths? Just add to the collection and get the GMF1? Or what’s your favorite EDC fixie from this company?

First ever manicure

I’m in my mid 30’s, carpenter by trade. Literally abuse my hands like they owe me money. My girl is a hair stylist at a salon and encouraged me to get a manicure there. I was aprehensivo going into it but ive already booked for next month. My hands have literally never looked this nice. I quite literally never practice self care and am trying to do better with that. The little bowl of warm water or whatever it was with the rocks in it, the hand massage, delightful. I now understand and totally with it. The sweet lady said she typically only does like solid colors but the design i presented was simple enough and she thought it was a cool one.

Ordered the 2mm version. The label on the plastic around the cardboard says 2mm. Unfortunately the label on the box itself is .5. Super tempted to just keep it and order another 2mm. The .5 is way too small for my intended use case. I typically use 2mm for work as a finish carpenter, anything smaller is just too delicate for the pace I’m moving at.

If anyone is considering one of these it feels amazing in hand and is gorgeous in person. Fit and finish is top tier. I clicked it a handful of times but didn’t write with it as I’m sending it back. Wiped my degenerate finger prints off it then boxed it back up. Contacted the seller, hopefully will have a 2mm by the end of the week.
