Good day to wear the 521
On the 49th anniversary of the death of Elvis, I figured I would wear one of my 521s. This one dates to 1960. Yes, the dial has seen better days, but I can't get myself to refinish it.

While you always see the Model 43, you rarely see Model 23 with the shock absorber case. This was so the watch could be thrown into an Army box and still maintain time. Watches weren't shock resistant like they are now. The watch itself is a 16 size 19j pocket watch with stopwatch function. Just something different!
We got together yesterday to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Tennessee Region pca club. While the weather wasn't the best, kept raining on and off, it was still a good time. Drive started about 45 minutes west of Chattanooga that ended up at Riverdance restaurant in Guild, Tennessee. Good curvy roads through the mountains and a great meal. View from the restaurant was still decent. Just a fun day with friends.
Haven't had this one out in a bit. Solid 14k case, mineral crystal, original dial. It's humming away just like it's supposed to!
I hadn't had these out in a while and I'll need to service them. The case is solid 10K gold, which is unusual. The movement is the 22J 770 manual wind. These were available from 1956-1962. Not rare, but something different!
This was an interesting experiment for Hamilton. Hamilton had owned Illinois Watch Company since 1928. They brought the Illinois name back on watches with a Swiss movement. This one is 17j and features a power reserve indicator. In this pic is almost fully wound as it's showing slightly less than 40 hours of reserve. Something different for today!
This week's project will be getting these back in order. They do run, but all need service. I can't remember the last time I wore them so they need some wrist time. Solid 14K case, 19j 982 movement. The 2 with bands have a 1949 presentation engraving, the other 2 have a 1952 presentation engraving.
Earlier this week I brought this out of hiding, serviced it, so decided to wear it today. I am looking for an original dial for it, so if you have one let me know. This is a 1955 Donavan with a 14k case, 22j 770 manual wind movement. Just one you don't see much of these days!
Figured I'd wear this one out and about today. It's been awhile. Meteor is clunking away with it's 500A movement keeping decent time. I know the black surround on the dial is most common, but I like it. It's more fun to wear them than just look at them in a case!
Nice turnout for cars and coffee. 911s were well represented.
While going through what I thought was just watch junk, I came across this Pacer. I don't have all the 500 parts needed to bring this back so looking for a complete 500 movement that is running. Not looking to spend 400-500 dollars that the known online electric repair places charge. Let me know if you have one!
A couple of days ago I finally got my other 2 Altairs running. It's been years since all 3 of them have been running and keeping decent time. I think I'll wear one today!
You don't see many of the original 521s in the wild anymore. I've had this for several years. Runs great after a fresh service. Always better to wear them than just stare at them in a case!
Today it's the Hamilton Flight II. The 22j 770 movement was just serviced, keeping great time. Haven't had this one out in a while. They are always more fun to wear than just look at in a case!
Don't see many with the rear wiper, but was a must for me!
This one is clunking away with it's 500A movement, keeping decent time. I know Pacers have the highest production numbers of any electric, but I still like them. Much better to wear than just look at them in a case!
I haven't had this one out in a while. 1961 Hamilton Electric Vega with the 505 movement. It keeps great time. I'm sure I'll probably be the only one out and about with this one. They are always more fun to wear than just look at in a case!
So I picked up a bag of these at Sam's since it was only 3.98 a bag. I was expecting the seasoning to be like 50/50 garlic to parm. Instead, there's no garlic flavor at all. Just a heavy parm flavor. I'll finish the bag, but probably won't get them again.
