Is there something more to this than tankies simply embracing whatever label makes them sound the most radical? Or is it really as simple as that? I can’t for the life of me think of any reason why one would support the ideas of a dictator whose policies resulted in the deaths of tens of millions of people, especially considering the fact that living standards in China increased only after Mao Zedong passed away and Deng Xiaoping implemented reform policies that opened up the economy for foreign investments and international trade. To me it just sounds the same as, for example, someone saying they’re a supporter of the Kim family. Is there an actual reason why some socialists embrace the Maoist label, or is it just a radicalness contest? Genuinely trying to understand.
