TIL that Marcelo del Pilar advocated for mass Spanish immigration into the Philippines

Today is the 130th death anniversary of Marcelo del Pilar, who was the original proponent of the Philippine Revolution and said to have bankrolled it, while Jose Rizal opposed it.

TIL that he had advocated for thousands of liberal peninsular settlers to come into the Philippines to dilute ultraconservative friars. He also proposed that instead of prisoners, artisans must migrate into the Philippines en masse to populate cities like Manila. However, he opposed for mass non-Spanish foreign immigration like the Japanese.

What if gawin nalang "probationary" ang mga bagong hired na Teacher I for at least three years?

What if gawin nalang "probationary" ang mga bagong hired na Teacher I for at least three years, as if yung mga ayaw talaga magpermanent sa DepEd at magretire as DepEd teacher ay may enough time na magreflect bilang probationary teacher kung calling ba talaga nila ang pagiging teacher o hindi? Itong idea ko ay parang sa mga healthcare worker like nurses or medtech na stepping stone lang ang government service para makapagwork abroad.

What if magkaroon tayo ng Filipino version ng H-1B, EB-2 at EB-3?

What if ang Pilipinas ay magkaroon ng sariling version ng H-1B, EB-2, at EB-3 work visas na ang goal ay magiging premier destination of high-skilled workers and their family members ang Pilipinas sa Southeast Asia, imbes mga retired old white blokes at balikbayan retirees na unlikely magiging local income earners?

My idea how to boost football popularity in the Philippines: import foreigners and their family members to live in PH and act as the start-up fan bases

I think we cannot obviously force living locals to love football as a sport and become fans because they are psychologically Americanized to love basketball even if their average height won't make them NBA players.

For me, the best way to create a homegrown football player and fan base is to artificially create an ecosystem for it (astroturfing) where we have to import foreigners and their family members to permanently reside in the Philippines and play or watch football during weekends, while PH-born locals are left alone with basketball. This will be similar to the US MLS where the player and fan bases are primarily of first and second-generation Hispanics, not multigenerational white or black Americans.

It's up to the subsequent second, third, and fourth generations of locals whether to embrace football as their sport to follow or not. The analogy here is like someone sowing a narra seed but it will take three generations to grow and flourish as a tree that the grandchildren of someone who sowed the narra seed will enjoy to shelter the narra tree, so this analogy can be done for multigenerational football development in our country.

Don't call yourself "expat" if you intend to take roots in the Philippines by marrying locals and residing in the Philippines at the same time (this also applies to Filipinos abroad who intend to return to the Philippines)

It's time to settle expat vs immigrant definition debate here, once and for all, where the original definition of an expat and an immigrant must be followed, where the former must be someone who resides in a foreign country for a few years but not intending to have roots like marrying locals, or retiring and dying in a foreign country, while an immigrant is someone who intends to take roots by marrying locals or co-ethnic permanent resident immigrant, working in a foreign country in either local or foreign-based company, and of course retiring and dying in a foreign country.

For me, there is nothing wrong about elderly white men who are SRRV holder and residing in the Philippines being called "immigrant", if any of the aforementioned definition conditions of an "immigrant" is followed by him like marrying a local and if you have an offspring, you choose to bring them to a local public or private school, not international school.

Of course, the Philippine constitution and statutes must be overhauled to meet the 21st century human migration flow reality like replacing citizenship-based with resident-based business ownership laws.

What if hindi na gawing automatic na naka-plantilla ang employment status ng non-MTs?

What if para magiging mas madali para sa mga DepEd public school teachers na makapagresign at magwork abroad o other industry like IT/BPO o freelancing ay COS nalang ang employment position ng non-master teachers, magiging parang BPO ang DepEd na job hopping, hindi na climbing up the ladder (career progression) through taking masters degree ang norm?

In this setup, pwede na taasan ang starting salary ng T1 from SG 11 to SG 15, pero hindi ka na permanent plantilla, so mas magiging stepping stone nalang (pang-experience) ang pagiging DepEd teacher, hindi na full-time career until retirement.

Treat football in the Philippines like an "infant industry" where it must become popular to expats first before locals

I think local Filipino football fans must stop being delusional that this sport will become the #1 sport among local fans anytime soon.

To create a grassroots-based football player and fan ecosystem within our country, it needs to cater to expats and their descendants currently residing in the Philippines and let it flourish on its own, in parallel with the locally dominated basketball. In this manner, after three generations, locals will be accustomed to watching football where they have half-expat offspring.

My reference here is the American MLS, which is largely a football (soccer) professional sport composed of players of Hispanic descent and a Hispanic-centric fan base within the USA.

In the Apartheid-era South Africa, whites and blacks had their own parallel team sports, rugby and football, respectively, but after the end of the Apartheid, both racial groups in South Africa embraced each other's team sports, with then-South African president Nelson Mandela embracing rugby during the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

If the Philippines follows the aforementioned paths for intergenerational football adoption by locals, then football will become as popular as a spectator team sport as basketball in a few generations.

As if both basic and higher education institutions ay synchronized pa rin sa traditional na June-to-March school calendar up to this day.

What if European-style club-based sports development system ang meyron tayo, imbes American-style varsity-based sports development system?

My sincerest condolences to the beavered families of Rene Baterbonia and Divine Adili.

What if yung sports development system natin ay European-style club-based, hindi yung American-style varsity-based, as if separate ang athletics at academics kung saan kung mahina ka sa academics, pero malakas ka sa athletics ay sasali ka nalang sa sports academies as early as 12 years old at maging professional athlete ka by the age of 16 years old?

Thoughts about adopting a Chinese-style leasehold-only land ownership in the Philippines

A serious question to all expats: would you date and then marry Filipina public school teachers or government nurses if you have a chance to do so?

Apparently, there is much scrutiny among locals like myself on expats dating and marrying Filipinos who aren't college-educated licensed professionals or with lopsided age-gap differences.

Since dating and marrying Filipinas coming from the upper-middle class and beyond is improbable for most expats here on this subreddit, would you date and then marry Filipina public school teachers or government nurses from humble backgrounds with roughly the same age cohort as yours (with independent income and assets already before you met her), if you were given a chance to do so?

What if pwede na ang SHS graduates na makapag-enroll sa law and med schools (no more pre-law at pre-med)?

What if gayahin natin ang sistema sa Australia, India, UK, Latin American, at continental European countries na tanggalin na ang requirement ng isang aspiring lawyer at medical doctor na dapat muna kukuha ng pre-law at pre-med undergraduate courses, respectively, at payagan na ang SHS graduates na makapagenroll sa law at med schools, pero ang catch dito ay magiging 5 o 6 years ang duration ng pag-aaral sa law at med schools, na ang first two years ay mga core subjects na currently nasa pre-law at pre-med courses?
