Pulling the plug on my Ltd co after 18 months, couple of quick questions on winding down

Spent the last week looking at the bank balance and we've finally hit the wall. 18 months in, cash runway is completely gone after two of our three main retainers pulled out back in May. We're sitting on roughly £16,000 in total business debt between unpaid suppliers, HMRC VAT, and a small overdrawn director loan.

Trying to make sure I don't mess up the legal side of closing this down properly. Spent yesterday going through HMRC guidance pages, looking into liquidation options vs striking off, and emailing our accountant to see what he'd charge for final filings.

The main headache is a £4,200 VAT bill due in a few weeks. We only have about £1,100 left in the bank account after paying off our cloud hosting and software sub for this month.

If anyone here went through a voluntary shutdown with HMRC debts, did you just let them object to a DS01 form or did you pay for a formal liquidation straight away? Just trying to avoid dragging this out forever.

EDIT : Appreciate all the replies and DMs. Spent the morning going through everything. Sounds like pushing a DS01 with unpaid HMRC debt will just get blocked immediately, so looking into a proper CVL instead. Booked a free call with Director First to review the loan account and liability stuff before deciding on the next step. Will update if anyone's interested in how it goes.

40 and want to fix my teeth. Veneers or implants? And any NJ dentist recs?

I am 40 and I have always been self conscious about my teeth. They are worn down and just do not look great. I am finally ready to do something about it but I am stuck on the veneers vs implants question. Which one is more durable for someone my age?

I also need a recommendation for a good cosmetic dentist in NJ. I found Dr Silman Smile Spa online and their before and after photos look impressive. Has anyone been to them? How was the experience and the pricing?

Any honest advice would be appreciated. I want to make a smart decision.

What kind of text to speech API is worth using, without breaking the bank with large volumes of data?

I'm working on a project where I have to process hundreds of hours of audio recordings and I'm starting to get lost in the options on the market.

Most of the APIs I've tested so far either have huge latencies when uploading long files, or the costs increase uncontrollably as soon as I pass the testing threshold.

What solutions do you use for large volumes that are stable and don't crash right when you need more real-time processing?

Paper weight tickets are ruining our billing. How do you guys manage this?

Need some real advice because this is turning into a massive headache every week.

We spend way too much time hunting down paper scale tickets from our drivers. Half of them are crumpled up in the cab, the handwriting is unreadable, or they just forget to bring them to the office. Invoicing gets delayed by almost a week, which kills our cash flow, and we keep losing money on extra weight charges just because paper gets lost.

How are you guys getting weight tickets to billing without confusing the drivers?

We tried having drivers upload photos to a shared Google Drive, but the office still has to manually type everything into QuickBooks. Also saw a software called CurbWaste while looking around looks like their app syncs tickets straight to invoices. Has anyone used them, or did you figure out a simpler way to handle this?

Dealing with tenants leaving behind heavy junk – how do you handle disposal efficiently between turns?

Managing a small portfolio of rental properties and turnover is always the most exhausting part, especially when tenants move out and leave heavy furniture or random junk behind.

You want to get the place listed again ASAP to avoid vacant days eating into profits, but dealing with city dump schedules or renting trucks every time someone dumps an old mattress or broken couch is such a headache. One of the other landlords I know mentioned using CurbWaste to coordinate property cleanouts and bulk pickups without driving out to supervise or wasting hours on the phone.

For those of you managing multiple rental units, how do you streamline waste disposal between tenants? Is it better to rely on local haulers or contract something recurring?

Replaced by AI 4 months ago and I’m hitting an absolute mental wall. How do you deal with the rejection?

I'm 28, and back in March, my entire department got laid off because the company decided to automate our workflow using AI. At first, I thought I’d find something else quickly, but it’s been 4 months of absolute silence. Hundreds of applications, a handful of ghost interviews, and zero offers.

I’ve hit a point where I can barely force myself to open LinkedIn anymore. The rejection and financial stress are fueling a brutal depression, and I feel completely useless. I’ve always identified through my work, and now that it’s gone, I feel like a nobody. My family tries to support me, but I just feel like a burden. For those who went through long-term unemployment, how the hell do you stop the mental spiral and handle this level of anxiety?

My Dreaming Spanish learning progress (and some private lessons)

I have been following the Dreaming Spanish method for about six months now. I have logged over 100 hours of input across the Superbeginner and Beginner levels. I can definitely understand more than I could at the start. Native speakers in videos are starting to make sense and I can follow the gist of conversations in podcasts.

However, I have hit a wall that I wanted to share and get some advice on. I find that my comprehension is improving steadily, but I am still struggling to speak. When I try to form sentences, my brain just freezes. I can understand a lot more than I can produce, which is frustrating.

I have been reading about how input alone is great for comprehension but active speaking requires a different kind of practice. The Dreaming Spanish method often recommends starting to speak later in the process, but I feel like I need some structured guidance to get over this hump.

So I have started supplementing my Dreaming Spanish input with formal private lessons with a tutor. The idea is to use the lessons for focused speaking practice. My tutor can correct me, help me build confidence with basic conversation, and give me a safe space to make mistakes. This seems to be helping me bridge the gap between understanding and producing the language.

Has anyone else here felt this plateau when trying to speak? Do you have a method for transitioning from comprehension to conversation? I would be interested to hear how others have handled this stage of the process.

Anyone ever switch from local nanny to an au pair agency?

Hey guys, struggling a bit over here and could use some honest thoughts. Our current setup is getting super stressful with scheduling and costs. I'm kinda on the fence about whether bringing someone into the house full-time is easier or just a whole different kind of headache. Has anyone dealt with this switch before? How do you even handle the extra space requirements and matching process without losing your mind?

Compared major no-KYC eSIM providers, sharing honest results

Haven't found anything useful on Reddit lately, most Google results are sponsored or self-promotion. I am privacy conscious and travel a lot, so took a few weeks to test the main ones properly.

Silent Link

The most trusted name in this space, longest track record on privacy forums. 160+ countries, no data caps or expiry, accepts most cryptos, has both data and call packages. Provides a GrapheneOS/Pixel activation string which is handy on degoogled devices. Downsides: priciest of the bunch, dashboard would be great, no way to check exit IP before purchase, and the popular regions sell out fast.

Voidmob

Global IP routing options, choose between several exit carriers per region. Accepts XMR and the major cryptos. Has a GrapheneOS activation string out of the box. Bundles non-VoIP numbers and encrypted mobile proxies under the same account, useful for higher-restriction places like RU or CN where regular VPNs do not survive. Downsides: eSIM is data only, no BTC Lightning option.

Nadanada

Few IP routing options and a wide selection of plans. Accepts XMR and most major cryptos. Bundles its own VPN, virtual numbers, and an AI chat tool, so it is more of a privacy suite than just an eSIM. Downsides: no GrapheneOS activation string, and still not sure which IP option is disclosed before purchase, so you find out which country you actually exit from after activation.

PikaSim

Has an app and accepts cards alongside crypto, which is convenient for anyone who does not want to mess with wallets or dashboards. Multiple IP routing options. Downsides: the website is not the easiest to navigate compared to others, no GrapheneOS activation string, service is relatively new so had to test without much info.

Stuff worth knowing before you pick:

All four skip KYC, no email or personal info required, and all take crypto.

No-KYC does not equal anonymous. The carrier still sees the eSIM IMEI, your IP is logged at the network layer, and the eSIM itself adds no encryption.

What you avoid handing over is your ISP, your identity, and your real-country IP (if the provider actually routes through a foreign exit).

For smooth usage, always verify your exit IP right after activation, regardless of which one you go with.

For real encryption, layer a VPN or mobile proxy on top. The eSIM solves the SIM-registration and foreign-IP side, not the encryption side.

Pick based on what you actually need, each one has its own perks and tradeoffs. Let me know if I missed a provider worth testing.

Tired of "premium" tees turning into boxy crop tops after three washes. Anyone found actual quality blanks?

Hey guys, I need some real recommendations because I’m losing my mind here.

I’ve been trying to rebuild my closet with just solid, everyday basic t-shirts. Budget isn't really the main issue, but everything I buy lately feels like a scam. I tried a few of the hyped mall brands, and after literally two or three cycles in the wash, they either shrink so much they look like a crop top, or the collar stretches out and looks like a wavy bacon strip.

I just want a decent, midweight cotton shirt that keeps its fit, doesn't look completely boxy, and actually lasts. Where are you guys buying your everyday basics that don't go to shit instantly?

Update: Thanks for the suggestions so far! While searching around, I stumbled upon Nine Line Apparel and noticed they have a whole line of blank core tees.

I looked up some reviews and people on military/tactical forums seem to swear by their blanks for durability and keeping their shape.

But you know how online reviews can be. Anyone here daily worn their blanks for a minute? Do they really hold up in the dryer, and how is the athletic fit for a regular guy?
