23M Aug 21 - 30 Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka)

Hey everyone!

I’m heading to Japan between 21st to 30th August . I’ll be splitting my time between Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

Travelling solo, so if anyone happens to be there around the same time and wants to explore together, grab food, check out attractions, hit up arcades, or even just wander around for a day, I’d be down.

I don’t have a super strict itinerary, so I’m happy to join plans too.

If our dates overlap, feel free to drop a comment or send me a DM. Always nice to meet new people while travelling.

Which universities have the strongest quantum computing programs?

I’m looking at applying for graduate programs in quantum (computing, information, engineering, or closely related fields) and wanted to hear from people who’ve actually been through the process.

What are the best universities or programs in the US or Europe? I’m interested in places with strong research, good faculty, solid industry connections, and decent career prospects after graduating.

If there are programs that are underrated but have excellent research groups, I’d love to hear about those too.

I’d also appreciate any advice on which universities have the best reputation in the quantum field versus which ones are just generally prestigious. Personal experiences, things you wish you’d known before applying, or programs you’d avoid are all welcome.

Almost got hit at two different pedestrian crossings in the same week

I recently moved to the Great World area and within a week I’ve had two really close calls with cars while crossing the road.

The first one was at a signalised pedestrian crossing. My light was green, and after it happened I even looked to make sure I hadn’t imagined it. There were still about 18 seconds left on the countdown. A car came turning at speed and I had to literally jump out of the way. It stopped just inches from me. The windows were heavily tinted so I couldn’t even see the driver, and there wasn’t so much as a wave or an apology. The only person who acknowledged what happened was a bus driver waiting on the opposite side, who gestured to ask if I was okay. That honestly meant a lot.

I didn’t report it, but a few days later I noticed the road markings around that crossing had fresh green paint added. Not sure if it’s related or just a coincidence.

Then yesterday, at a nearby zebra crossing, it happened again. I started crossing because the first car was still a fair distance away, but it never slowed down. I had to jump back onto the pavement. What shocked me more was that the next three cars behind it also didn’t stop. They weren’t bumper to bumper or forced to follow the first car. They all had enough space to slow down and just… didn’t.

I’ve lived in Singapore my whole life and I’ve genuinely never experienced anything like this before. I’ve seen this kind of driving overseas, but not here.

Have I just had incredibly bad luck?

Why is everyone writing about SPCE?

This is prolly a stupid question but why am I seeing everyone saying that they’re gonna buy spce or has bought it pre-ipo etc etc? Is this a meme stock bought by accident instead of SpaceX? And SpaceX isn’t being publicly traded yet right? I’m so confused! Would appreciate a clarification!!
