Why do commentators keep pointing out how a particular car performed in previous year?

Something I've noticed about Indycar, I feel like I've seen it happen at other circuits, but I'm especially noticing it in the buildup to the 500. Commentators will point out that a driver is driving the number xx car that "almost won last year" or "came runner up last year" or lead xxx number of laps last year."

They point this out even if its a different driver at the wheel than it was in previous race. My first question is when they do this are they saying they are driving the same actual chassis, or do they just mean using the same number and its more of a luck superstition thing?

Even if it is talking about the same chassis, how much does a particular cars past performance actually matter, especially when it's not even the same driver racing it? Surely its been taken apart and rebuilt, the engine and gear box replaced and any other parts needing refreshing changed out?

Why is a car's past performance hyped as an indicator of potential upcoming performance, or is it just commentator finding story lines and drumming up interest and excitement going into a race and nothing more than that?

LA to Vegas road trip.

Hi everyone. My girlfriend and I are going to Vegas this weekend in her 2wd EquinoxEv. Leaving Saturday morning returning Sunday evening.

The listed range of the car 319 miles and the driver is just under 300 miles so the car can, in theory, make it all the way there on a full charge, but I don't want to risk running out of range right before making it there, or not being able to charge while there and not being able to make it to a quick charging station to get home and being stuck waiting to charge enough at a level 2 charger. We've never done a road trip in this car and still haven't used a fast charger on it.

So my plan would be to, of course, start out with 100% charge, stop at a quick charger somewhere around halfway or more to Vegas, spend 20 minutes (I'm guessing) charging back to 80% and then driving the rest of the way.

Once we arrive if we can charge at the casino we are staying at great, if not either use a quick charger near Vegas to charge up to 80% and stop about halfway on the way back and quick charge again back up 80% to get home.

Or if we have enough range left when leaving Vegas to make it to another fast charging station on the way back just head for that.

I know this is doable in theory, but how realistic or inconvenient will it be? What charging stations along the way are both fast and reliably in service? What charging services should we make sure we are signed up with ahead of time, or can we just swipe a credit car like at a gas pump?

Our route to Vegas and back would be along the 10 and the 15.

Thanks.

EDIT: I should add that we do to have the adaptor for Tesla superchargers.

I stumbled upon this Lebanese sandwich place today and decided to give them a try for lunch. They make something called La Kaek which is made on a sesame seed encrusted flatbread that made with a hole in it, then stuffed with different ingredients.

I got the Zaatar and Cheese, you then pick your veggies that you want in it (subway style), I went with tomatoes cucumbers olives spinach and green peppers.

I'd never tried this kind of bread before but I liked it and the sesame crust gave it a nice crunch and flavor. The end of the bread with the hole that looks like the handle was a bit dry as the stuffing doesn't go there, but I didn't mind that. It came out to about $16 dollars after tax and tip. I do wish it was a bit more filling but it made for a healthy light lunch and these days its tough to find any lunch under $20.

The people running it were really nice, they said they had been open about 2 months. Stop by and support them and give it a try for yourself.

I've been watching some media and social media posts about the Indy test sessions and a few people mentioned that some of the bigger teams, specifically Penske did not bring their super speedway cars to the test session.

What exactly are these superspeedway cars? I know there is a different aero package for the superspeedways, but every team has that and every team has been running that aero package in these tests.

Does Dallara make different spec chassis for road and street circuits vs large ovals? I thought all the teams got the identical chassis? What makes a super speedway car different to another car? What are the differences between that and another car, why would team choose not to run those cars in this test, and car super speedway specific cars car something ever team has or only the larger better funded teams?
