Is it my imagination or..

is it possible that my 2 1 year-old labs are indeed more protective and more on alert when my husband isn’t home?

Most nights, my husband gets off around dinner time, but there are two nights a week that he gets off at nine. Those nights isit’s just me and my two boys at home and I swear they do not rest when he’s not here. They are on what seems like a heightened alert, constantly pacing and looking out the window and listening for any tiny noise. Every time they hear or even send something, the loud deep barking starts.

When my husband‘s home, there are a lot more chill, but it seems like when he’s not here they’re either waiting for him or they’re just being extra on guard.

Is that a thing or is it in my imagination, does anyone else’s dogs do something similar?

Lost my girl 2 years ago and was just hit with intense grief

We lost our very sweet Apple Jan of 2024. It was devastating.... Anal adenocarcinoma. We opted for surgery to remove the tumor... she couldn't walk and in fact, never walked again. We said goodbye two weeks after a very expensive surgery that we never should have done. I regret it terribly. I grieved her hard and long when it happened. It took us a long time but we eventually (last Fall adopted two lab puppies) who have just turned a year old. They're a lot but we're surviving, holding out for the day they become really good boys.

Regardless of all that... I woke up this morning so sad about our girl. Like my heart hurts.... All I want to do is wrap my arms around her and have her lick my face, I want to smell her and pet her soft ears. I'm so sad. It feels silly because it's been two+ years and I have two boys I love. It just feels so fresh for some reason.

How do I help/adjust to a relative's ex-con bf?

I'll make this as short as I can.

I have a relative that has been single for a couple years. They recently started seeing someone who just got out of prison. (orig. 40 yrs sentence, out early at 29yrs.. I believe it was for a double murder.) They knew each other growing up and somehow connected through mutuals on FB.

This individual just got released in May. I'll be honest, I believe that I believe in reform. I say I believe that when someone serves their sentence, they should be allowed to enter into society. I am also seeing why society is reluctant to allow that.

We don't know this person and this is very out of character for my relative. It most recently affected a family trip where the individual was invited along prior to the family saying it was ok. (I would have wanted that regardless of their status... (it's a family trip, you've been seeing this person a month or so, it just felt too soon regardless) We welcomed this individual, hung out a little (they kept going back to the hotel because they were overstimulated, etc)., had dinner together, etc. ((Adding that they ended up leaving first thing the last day, without seeing anyone or saying goodbye. Rather than them joining our trip, it felt like they took my relative all to themselves and created a separate trip.))

I want this relative to be happy and they say they are. I will say this individual is overbearing, a little possessive. On FB they went back 12 years and commented on every picture of my relative.

I am trying to be openminded but it just feels too soon for this person to be so involved in a relationship. I admittedly don't know that I can trust them because I don't even know them and their "record" isn't that good. (I did case search them, read the court script and it was a very long history of some really bad stuff that ended up in homicide.

I want to be inclusive... how can I help? How do I support my relative while being careful but also welcoming? I know the person feels like we're judging them. We are honestly a very welcoming, openminded, non-judgmental family (typically). I don't want them to be reluctant to come around.

Anything I can do? I don't think this person is in a transitional program. They just got out and went back to the house they grew up in. I feel like they should be involved in a rehab social group or ex-con anon or something. Does that exist?

Please don't berate me... I apologize for my ignorance, I'm just being honest.

Any thoughts?

Question about honor walk

When someone does an honor walk it's my understanding that they are wheeled into the OR alive... their organs are then retrieved to be donated. At what point are they taken off of life support?

I know it's morbid but I can't help my curiosity. Do they take them off of life support and then begin the organ retrieval? So does that mean the family isn't with them when they actually pass? Is that correct?

Look how much fun they’re having!

That was one of my biggest observations from last nights show. These guys (and Anika!) are having a blast!

I was told my boy was a lab

So I adopted these two guys back in October (they were 8 weeks old). The litter post had several of each of these colors, I didn’t think anything of it. We brought home one of each and truly thought they were labs.

As they’ve gotten older (they’re 11 months now, about 80 lbs each) I don’t think they’re both labs. Gonzo (the brown guy)has a blockier head and body, although they’re both very muscular. Jagger (the gray/silver) has a pointier head and has a thinner body type but not by much.

I was looking at all the pictures on this sub and I can’t believe how much like these other pups my dog looks.

What are my neighbors burning?

My neighbors are bad news, I already know this.

Something that I’ve noticed about them and I’m unclear about is what they’re burning every night. We very rarely see them during the day, but they seem to be up all night playing music and “working” behind their house. They have a bunch of pop-up canopy tents with walls so we can’t really see what they’re doing.

Every night after dark, they start burning something that has a plastic chemical smell. I get up early, before the sun and I can tell that it’s starting to die off by then.

I have guesses, but no real idea what it could be. We’re both on about an acre out in the country and like I said, they’re bad news. Cops, domestic situations and all sorts of things. They had a trailer that I am pretty sure was seized in a raid.

Is it possible that the smell is some kind of lab or something? Anyone have any idea about this sort of thing?

Update on flippable bowl

Here’s a video of my lab that I was talking about earlier. This is the biggest slow food bowl I’ve seen and he flips it very easily. He seems to do OK in the beginning of the video which you don’t see here but as soon as it starts to get low, he becomes impatient and just wants the kibbles all over the ground.

Edited to add:
For those that didn’t see my first post, I want to be able to feed them inside, without having kibbles all over the place.

Unflippable dog bowls

(Edited to add: i’m going to video when I get home and try to post it so y’all can see how crazy this boy is and how easily he flips these big flat slow feeding bowls)
😂

I have two lab puppies (11 mo old, about 80 pounds each).

One of them, eats his food very tactfully. One bite at a time, chewing in between bites and taking in his surroundings while doing so. The other is like a bowling ball crashing down a lane of fresh pins. He eats a little and then bites the side of the bowl and flips it over. Needless to say there are kibbles e v e r y w h e r e! It’s chaos! The other dog then runs over, chaos ensues and it’s just a mess.

Originally, I bought them slow feeding bowls. I was able to switch the more refined dog back to a regular bowl but I’ve been feeding them out on my deck just because of the chaos and mess. Ideally this is not what I want feed time to be like so I’m looking to see if anyone has found anything that works for dogs that like to flip their bowls over.

Keep in mind that they are 80 pounds each so those bowls that supposedly don’t slide, etc, my dogs would laugh at that. My husband was going to build something, but I don’t really want a big piece of furniture in my kitchen.

Help?

(Pictures of the good boys because they’re so cute!)

Vaginal elasticity

I’m not sure if I’m imagining this but I have to ask…my husband and I had sex a few nights ago. We have a very healthy fun active sex life. During the process, I felt a sharp pain in my vaginal area…not enough to stop and quite frankly I was enjoying myself so I kept going. The next two days, I feel like I may have torn… or a lot, not bleeding or anything but that’s just what it feels like. This has happened like twice before.

Is that a thing? I’m feel like I may have read that somewhere before. I was aroused so it wasn’t that but it just felt like I tore a bit.

Getting chickens to go into the coop

I have a flock of 16 lovely temperamented ladies (they take turns being bossy occasionally).

I also have a crew of 7 new chicks (about 12 weeks old). I have slowly introduced them to the original flock. I keep trying to completely transition them to the coop and run, but they just will not go in the coop at night.

They sit under the coop in the corner. The first couple of times this happened I put them back in the garage for safety. I just don’t want to keep doing that as they are way big enough that they need to be out with their sisters.

It’s been two days and they just will not go on the coop, all the years I’ve had chickens. I’ve never experienced this and I’m not sure what to do to get these girls in there. I even occasionally picked them up and put them in the back door of the coupe so they have to exit the ramp into the run, but that doesn’t seem to make a difference.
