28M is 180k in HTX HENRY yet? Also far from rich.

28M, attorney, Houston at about 180k with my bonuses for the year. (Also, I am poor, still 180k in debt)

Do I qualify for HENRY yet, or am I broke boy for this sub? I always see 500k+ in here.

Insurance Defense Attorneys: what is your caseload like? And how do you ask for less work?

About to be an attorney for two years. I do trucking litigation and other random things. Just started at a new firm a (omitted) months ago. I’m at 50+ cases (haven’t gotten the chance to count them all out and keep being assigned more).

I’d like to say I do really good work and got to get some hands on experience early. At this point, Partners rarely ever have to correct or revise anything I send, I do really well with client communications and keeping them happy, present well, I’m good at taking depositions, I write well, and I’m thorough. (Feels over confident/ lack of humility stating that, but I do get really great feedback all the time and some clients ask for me to work some cases).

I’m honestly at a really good firm insurance defense wise too. However, other partners keep asking me to do things, and there are some other areas of law I’d like to experience within the firm too. I’m currently mainly split between two partners, but I’ve only really had the time to work up one of their dockets as I’m the only attorney on those cases, I’ve worked a decent amount of them since their inceptions, and I’ve developed good client relationships with all of the clients on that docket. The other docket are cases that are already mid-litigated with a sub-level partner or senior attorney working them. And everytime I stop to work one of those cases it goes from a simple task or report into an entire clusterfuck of trying to get things that should have been done already done & they just keep building up.

All of this is to say I have too many cases. I literally have one case I could spend the entire next week billing 8 hours a day on because of many motions and pleadings needed in it. How do I ask for less cases/a DND on me?

I’m already billing 8+ hours 6 days a week. I’m completely fine with working a lot, but I’m not fine with being spread this thin because I pride myself on quality work and not committing any malpractice or making dumb errors.

Thoughts? Pls help

Is 2350 kWh in 29days for a 2bed 2b at a 1000 sq feet apartment crazy?

I’m in Houston in a 2 bed / 2 bath apartment around 1,000 sq. ft. My Reliant usage for Apr. 14–May 12 shows about 2,350 kWh in 29 days, which seems extremely high to me, especially since we are not even in peak summer yet.

For context:

-I was keeping the apartment pretty cool: around 70 during the day and 65–67 at night.
I know that is low, but I have lived with similar settings before and never had usage anywhere near this high. Also, may add that the HVAC never goes below 73ish until maybe 9-10pm even when running low.

-I have a nice gaming PC and my girlfriend has a mid-range gaming PC, but neither of us is running them hard all day.

-After I noticed the usage, we changed the thermostat to about 77 during the day and 73 at night and started unplugging things when not in use.

-The daily usage has gone down some, but not much.

-I’m planning to ask apartment maintenance to inspect the HVAC and possibly the electrical/meter setup. Is there anything specific I should ask them to check? For example, HVAC efficiency, refrigerant, thermostat calibration, duct leaks, emergency heat/heat strips, air filter, water heater, or whether the meter could somehow be tied to another unit?

Any friendly advice from electricians or HVAC people? I’d rather not make a car loan payment each month for electricity.

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback guys. And thanks for confirming I wasn’t being dramatic. I have reached out to all available maintenance channels and to my energy provider so hopefully someone figures out what’s going on.
