Still love the show but one thing has changed.

For decades SNL had been a superstar factory. Chevy Chase, Eddie Murphy, Mike Myers, Will Ferrel, Tina Faye, Bill Hader come to mind.

Then there’s the lesser known but very solid cast members that aren’t as famous but probably more well known for their talent. Gilda Radner, Charles Rocket, Phil Hartman, Will Forte, Fred Armisen and Kenan Thompson.

It seems odd that there hasn’t been new a-list stars born of SNL since Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig left. So many have turned in solid work for, in some cases for 11 seasons and are doing just working actors.

Has something significant changed since 2013?

PS: not trying to trash the show. It’s still relevant and funny as hell. Just been thinking about this for the last 10 years.

Suddenly struggling with 9mg

I was on the 4mg for two months. I did lose some weight, but my doc and I agreed that I would be better off with the next higher dosage.

For whatever reason, the day after I switched to 9mg I was craving coca-cola so when the nausea kicked in thought it would be good to settle my stomach. I ended up with the worse heartburn I ever had and some severe fatigue.

I stayed away from carbonated beverages and things stabilized for about 10 days. Any side effects were nowhere near deal breakers. Then on Thursday, I unfortunately ate some cheap pizza and have been struggling with the same nausea and fatigue ever since.

This post may just be me working this through in my head but wanted to see what everyone else thought.

But why haven't I just asked to go back to 4mg? I got on the scale this morning and I'm 1 pound over my lowest weight in 20 years. Still a ways from my goal weight.

Has anyone else just pushed through and things eventually normalized?

Saving for a downpayment the hard way

I remember reading an article back in the 90s titled something like "Yes you can come up with a down payment, you're just not going to like it."

In summary the article said to do the following for ONE YEAR.

  • In addition to your full-time job get a very flexible part-time job.
    • Something you can do on nights, weekends and holidays
    • Work as many hours at this job as possible. Including during any vacation time you have from your FT job.
    • And of course, grab as much overtime as possible at your day job.
  • Cancel Cable TV (it was the 90s remember)
    • You want entertainment, then borrow books or VHS tapes from the library and listen to FM radio.
  • No gym membership.
    • Jog and do pushups
  • No dining out.
    • Don't feel like cooking? You have frozen pizzas for just this occasion.
  • No vacations
  • Spouse does the same.
    • If no spouse, then forget dating for a year.
  • Downgrade in any way possible. Cheaper car or smaller apt.
  • Take on roommates or move back home if that's an option.

Is this still good advice?

REMINDER: This is for ONE YEAR ONLY and not a permanent lifestyle. Will going hardcore like this for a predefined agreed upon time generate enough capital to afford a downpayment on a new home?

Death by ADHD

If the show was made today this would have been a great opening.

On our way out of town on Friday I left my iPad on the roof of my car where it fell off a half mile from house. I got home today and walked down my very busy road (think Pet Semetery) just after sunset to retrieve it. And of course I overestimated how far it was. By the time i reached the location it was dangerously dark and the shoulder where I eventually located it was a very overgrown blind spot for even the most cautious driver.

I could see an episode starting with my stubborn ass throwing caution to the wind because I wanted to risk my life for my consumer electronic toy. Then along comes a driver who's texting while driving and runs me over.

Ken Hendra 1969-2026

The name of the episode would be "Death by ADHD".

Admins, feel free to delete. This is my daily writing exercise. Thought I would share.
