Lining up corners

Lining up corners

Hi all, it’s me with yet another question. (This sub will get credit if this quilt ever gets finished…)

The picture has 3 components. The grey stip on the right is NOT attached. It is there to show you that the dark grey is the same width as the light grey horizontal strip

The blue square was sewn to the top horizontal grey strip. And the left grey vertical strip was sewn to the dark grey square.

I have sewn and ripped this seam 3 times now. Nothing I can do seems to keep them lined up. I have very carefully pinned the pieces together and ran my machine slowly.

Any ideas of what to adjust or another strategy or technique to try?

This means “yes, I use AI” right?

Found a coloring book I liked, but couldn’t see anything about hand draw. The author had a website and social media presence and I found them recommended on some Reddit threads.

So I sent them a message on Insta and this was their response.

This means they used AI right?

ISO Grey Tonal by Loops & Threads

Fucked up my cutting and I’m now looking for enough of this fabric to cut 3 2.5” x 2.5” squares…

It’s sold out at Michael’s which is the only place I can find it for sale online in Canada. But, I’m sure a small piece would fit in an envelop. I’m willing to pay for the fabric and the postage.

I’m hoping someone has some.

Am I the only one who didn’t know this???

I’ve been working on a quilt top happily churning out blocks. I’m about half way through and decided to take a break from piecing to square some of them up.

The first few went swimmingly. They were exactly the tiny bit oversized as I planned. (The quilt is my design) Then the next few were smaller. I was super confused and measured a whole bunch. They were all small. I decided that I must have gotten careless as I found a rhythm. So, I switched from 6” squares to 5 3/4” squares.

Today I was bored and tried to figure out where I went wrong…

THE SEWING MACHINE NEEDLE RESETS WHEN YOU TURN IT OFF AND ON AGAIN!!!!

I spent like 20 minutes getting the needle position all sorted out before I started piecing. I even bought a foot with an adjustable fence. I had no idea it would reset. So, I went from lovely 1/4 seams to 3/8” seems. The picture shows the initial set of seams done at 1/4” and then later piecing being 3/8”.

How is this a thing??????

This is the first time I’m using an electronic style machine. In the past I used my mechanical one where you slide a thing and I swear the needle stays where you put it until you move it.

Sigh

First real finished piece

I didn’t design the pattern, but I did edit and combine free parts that I found online to make this. I printed onto one of those dissolving things but I cut it to be slightly bigger than the hoop to keep my finger smudges off it. That worked perfectly.

It was a graduation gift for my kick ass friend who finished nursing school at 45 as a single mom to three complex kids.

Suggestions for piecing order

Hi all,

I designed a quilt and I’m happily trucking along making my blocks. I’m just thinking ahead to how I’m going to put the blocks together into strips.

I know that structurally, it won’t make a difference. But, I’m wondering if one way will look better.

Thoughts?

The red lines represent the 1st set of attaching. The green represents the 2nd.

Looking for more, but NOT AI this time

I am so glad to have discovered this sub. I would love some feedback on my first few pieces as well as suggestions for my next book to buy.

I ordered this book with some new pencil crayons and I’m loving it. However, I didn’t realize I needed to watch out for AI, and it’s bumming me out.

I’m looking for a few different themes with the following qualities:

- larger areas to color rather than 1000s of tiny spaces. It’s less relaxing if I have to watch out for tiny spots and my brain won’t let me cross the lines.
- if possible (not a total requirement) one sided so I can put them on my bulletin board behind my monitor.

- themes: fantasy, medieval fantasy, NSFW motivational quotes.

Thank you all, I’m loving seeing everyone else’s work.

Looking for a video of a man using a manual wheel to make bowls

I don’t remember how long ago, but I saw a video of a man in India (?? Or a nearby country) throwing simple bowls off the hump. He was sitting on the ground near a couple others and using either a ground kick wheel or a manual one that is spun by a stick. He throws small bowl after small bowl off a large hump and places them behind them. The video then shows the bowls drying in the sun followed by being fired in a wood powered dome? The last part I’m not super sure about.

I’ve been searching and comping up with similar videos but the people are making more complex videos that take a bit of time. What was amazing about the video I’m thinking of is the simplicity and sheer speed of the process.

Anyone know what I’m talking about? I really want to show it to my friend.

Thanks :)

Disappearing games

I keep starting games and then they vanish. It’s as if the other player has cancelled them because I had a good starting move. But, they don’t show up in my records as a win. In fact, I can’t find a stat to say how many of them there are.

I probably have 3 or 4 of these a day.

Does that mean there is a strategy to only use a mid word for the opener?

Why isn’t there a penalty for the players who do this?

Is Dinkydoo legit?

I’m hoping it is. I read a bunch of seemingly real reviews before I placed an order.

I placed an order on the evening of May 1st. I have been super patient and waited 12 working days and then emailed them yesterday morning.

The order status on the website is still “unfulfilled” and they have not replied to my email. Not order was 1 layer cake and then I think either 1/2 or 1 yard of 5 other fabrics.

I am about to lose my mind. The layer cake is for a present I really want to send out. And I hate waiting.

I’ve been sleeping like absolute crap for the last couple years. Both my psychiatrist and family doc haven’t been concerned. I’ve gotten the general advice. However I continued to collapse every afternoon and sleep like the dead for 2 hours. Good thing for setting my own schedule and WFH.

I finally got a watch that records sleep and showed my psych that I’m averaging 4 1/4 hours a night. Which explains the bone heavy exhaustion. I have always needed more sleep than average.

He prescribed me Trazodone. Said to try 50mg and if that didn’t work to take two.

The first 3 nights were utterly amazing. I slept 8-9 hours. I didn’t wake up at 3am for the day. I felt like an absolutely new person and my energy was back. I was able to initiate tasks and didn’t even think about napping.

After that it’s been much more hit or miss. I’ve been taking it for 3 weeks now and I’ve been averaging 6 3/4 hours. I’m also waking up at 3am again, but if I lie there for an hour or two I will fall back asleep. So, over all, this is better than before but I MISS that initial amazing sleep.

How do you use/take it? He said to play around and figure out what works for me. I don’t know if that was just for the dose or for taking it every night or only some nights. Thoughts?
