for any of the oldhammer fans out there. after having painted a good few plague marines i decided to finally commit and paint my old mini too.

needless to say, the new stuff is SO much better. the casting improvements, the detail additions and of course the customisation has skyrocketed since the old days.

im not 100% happy with this paint job, somehow the first time i did it turned out better than this time round, which is just confusing to me. the armour is pure stippling to get the dirty look, and of course the wonders of enamels to grime up the copper and recesses more.

the brown drippy bits are just skin ink freehanded on.

i am working on a youtube video on the process of it but finished these yesterday so havent got around to any editing yet (i have a linktree on my profile if youre interested in that)

feel free to ask any questions about the methods and i can try to explain them here if you like.

My 2nd plague marine from the set, painted in a different style

this is the 2nd plague marine of the box i bought that i have painted up now. trying to do each one using a different style. The first model was a lot cleaner/smoother, whereas with this one i went full grimdark style with a lot more grotty armour.

i could probably have done a bit more with the gun, however i was mostly focussing on the armour techniques here, so didnt put much focus on the gun. similarly with the sword too, though that being simply rusty works well enough anyway.

incredibly happy with how it all turned out however, especially the brick base which was absurdly easy to do.

the green armour is all done using stippling only, a really nice and easy technique to get this sort of result with

I definitely did a little too much with the snow on his armour. Wish i had kept it on his feet, but aside from that im really happy with how this guy turned out, especially on the base, as i was winging it with that completely.

his eyes are a bit skewed too but thats never going to not be problematic. im still working on getting NMM right but im happy with the attempts ive made on recent minis.

i dont know why but i really enjoy painting base space marines and giving them dynamic bases and effects, more so than character models. especially as its so much more cost effective 🤣
