Shouldn't we use pictures like this to represent the Milky Way?

This is a picture of NGC 6744 that was digitally stretched to appear closer to face-on. Traditional artists' renditions of the Milky Way seem to look very symmetrical even when compared to grand design spiral galaxies.

Is this actually a more realistic way to represent the Galaxy or are those artists' renditions actually accurate and the Milky Way is unusually symmetric? I feel like, though, if what I'm saying were correct, pictures like this would be more widely used.

Does the Universe have a proper name other than simply "universe"?

In theoretical physics discussions, other hypothetical universes are usually called, well, universes. But then we get the problem of our universe and other universes having the same name, and if we were in a String Theory discussion or some other framework with other universes, saying "this universe" becomes ambiguous, because does it mean the one in which we inhabit or does it mean a specific other one you're talking about?

If there is no proper name, my best proposal after a while of thought would be Panlactea since the Milky Way is the first large structure within the universe we really saw, and the "pan" prefix shows it's not just about our galaxy but everything else in the universe as well. But that's just my idea, obviously not official or anything.

M104's Background Objects of Interest

This is a project I've been working on for a couple days.

It's still not completely finished, but I decided to post it here for two reasons:

- it's quite interesting and something I feel many people could be inspired by to find their own background galaxies

- and contribution through noticing more galaxies and finding the IDs of some I couldn't find is always good to make the slideshow more informational.

I'm an amateur in the field of astronomy and so I wasn't sure about the classification of a lot of the galaxies. If any experts can classify them with better confidence, just let me know. One of the objects listed is actually a star system, just because it was the only binary/trinary I noticed and thought it was interesting.

Note that the names are not based on anything, it's just for discussion purposes, having a name is much easier to sympathize with or remember than just "slide #10," and also I might insert more galaxies between existing ones which would change the meaning of those numbers.
