No visible building number

Looking for some advice/am I overreacting?

I live on a street with a lot of restaurants, and my building door is tucked under one of their awnings so it can be hard to tell it’s a separate entrance. My building door is painted the same color as the façade of the restaurant and does have very thin metal letters all the way at the top of the door, however, they are also painted the same color as the façade so they are nearly invisible.

For over two years, my delivery drivers have either failed to deliver my items or delivered it to the building next door including packages, mail, and food deliveries. I would say it happens every 4/10 deliveries I get. I know it seems like a minor inconvenience, but it can be really frustrating having to re-order food after a long day, wait for a package to reship, or having to go next-door and ring on every buzzer until someone lets me in so I can retrieve my package.

For the last couple months, I’ve been asking my landlord if there’s something he can do about making the building number more clear and he keeps saying he’ll look into it, but nothing has happened.

Not sure if there is a higher level of action I should take but I’m half tempted just to run out to the local hardware store and buy the little number stickers for the glass. Would that be against some sort of building code/rule? Any advice is appreciated!

AITA for butting into my neighbors argument?

About five minutes after I arrived home from work this evening, I overheard a couple having a very serious sounding conversation- no yelling and screaming really, just very stern in the way they were speaking and sounded tense. Gradually over the next 20 minutes, the conversation got more agitated and louder, to the point it sounded like they were arguing right outside my door. I couldn’t see anything through the peep hole so I popped my head out and saw a man standing in an open doorway to the apartment next-door, talking very condescendingly back into the apartment. When I say condescending, I can’t even begin to explain how disturbing his tone was, and how many times he said that his girlfriend was stupid/an idiot. Some personal information that I think is helpful context, I was in a long term emotionally abusive relationship, so this tone just doesn’t sit well with me. After another 10 minutes of listening to them, I decided enough was enough. I went out and asked if everything is OK because the whole floor can hear them arguing with the door open. The boyfriend proceeded to tisk and make comments about my physical appearance. I was pushed over my limits at this point, and said that he sounds like an asshole and I would break up with him if I were his girlfriend, then went back in my apartment.

About 10 minutes later, I hear him leaving and he mocks me saying “you sound like an asshole” in a high pitch voice outside my door. At this point, I feel I’m being provoked, and open my door to tell him to get the fuck out of my apartment building or I’ll call the super to have him removed. He then makes comments about going “back to where I came from” (I’m white and live in a largely white area so not sure what he was insinuating??). The girlfriend comes running out and begs him to leave and when he finally does, I reiterate that she doesn’t deserve that and should think about leaving him. I went back into my apartment after that without another word.

I’m starting to feel really bad for the girlfriend in this situation as I feel like I may have inserted myself into someone else’s business, but I also think that when you have a heated conversation in the middle of my apartment hallway, it becomes my business. I also feel the need to maybe protect someone who seems to be in the same situation I was in so, AITA?

Overweight items

I shipped an item today and made sure to package it well. I didn’t have time to wait in line at the counter to find out the weight so I dropped it in one of the secure wall bins since it had a prepaid label. I’m concerned the package will be charged additionally for overweight/oversized, will I find that out once the package is scanned into the post office or only after the delivery and transaction are complete?

CEO screamed at me in front of the entire office

Fair warning this may be a little confusing as I’m not allowed to speak to anything too specific but feel free to ask questions in the comments and I will try to answer as best as I can:

It’s a smaller company, maybe around 40 employees in the main office. We are high volume sales company, generating millions. Our CEO started it over 15 years ago- there is no HR and he treats it like a family business, with his wife and children working there.

Recently there have been a lot of changes in the company, trying to keep up with technological advances and not enough staff. Many of the people at my company disagree with these policies, as they put a significantly new goal in place but have provided no plan or tools to get there.

Because we have no HR, we are expected to go directly to the CEO with any issues. Therefore, I attempted to have a conversation with him about these policy changes and how they very likely will negatively impact our productivity without the right tools. Each time I was shut down and told to get off my moral high ground. After weeks of other coworkers complaining as well, I responded to an email my CEO sent about the policies and asked if we could please get the tools necessary to make these goals as possible. Later that day, my CEO walked by my desk and I reiterated again that I’m confused how to get to the goal if we don’t have the plans in place. He absolutely freaked out and screamed at me from across the office to “ stop being catty in the office” multiple times and extremely loudly. He later emailed in response to my email that no policies will be changed.

I understand I may have been pushing too hard, but i genuinely don’t know how to complete my job with the new roadblocks set in the way and no path to navigate. Also, I’ve always approached the situation with a curious & good-willed tone, so to be screamed at by someone in an extreme position of power in front of the entire office feels really offputting to me- I think my only option left is to start exploring other jobs. Open to advice on what my next step should be.

AIO for wanting to cut off my sister?

My sister and I have always had a relatively tumultuous relationship. I, 26 female, and her, 30 female, grew up in a loving household with two parents, yet our relationship never really “clicked“. It started with childish/petty stuff when we were younger, like never wanting to share her stuff or never wanting me around with her friends because I was the “annoying little sister”. We are also very different in our interests (she’s more sporty, I’m very girly). Because of this, I feel as though I kind of grew up as an only child and never really had a super close sibling bond with her.

As we’ve grown up, our fights have gotten worst. While most of them are verbal and pretty nasty in what we say to each other, there have been multiple times where she elevated it to the level of a physical fight and I felt in danger due to her physically lurching at me/actually putting her hands on me. Below is a couple example of recent fights we’ve had:

•For one of my bday parties, we went to a baseball game. I was a bit nervous to have her there because she’s never interacted with this many of my friends (I had over 20 there), but I felt it was the right thing to invite her as it was in our city and she’s my sister. Little did I know, she was gonna show up to the game trashed and continue to drink through the whole game to the point where security had to come and remove her. It was extremely embarrassing many of my friends came up to me the whole day asking if she was okay and telling me that I should take her home…. On my birthday. This led to a verbal fight later on where my sister claimed it wasn’t that bad and everyone was overreacting.

•I hosted an adopt a family for Christmas. She came to the present wrapping part with about 4 of my friends. Somewhere in the middle, her friend called her on the phone and she proceeded to have a loud conversation on speaker in the middle of where we were wrapping and chatting. I very nicely asked her if she wouldn’t mind going into another room, to which she freaked out and said she didn’t need to help me and was just there as a favor so she would leave anyways. Again, embarrassing me in front of my friends.

•Tonight was the most recent, we were at dinner with a bunch of family, and I had mentioned that I got an extremely hard to get reservation at a new restaurant in the city we live. She then proceeded to act completely shocked as to why I didn’t ask her to go with me to this restaurant and pouted for the rest of the dinner. When I asked her to please stop being upset about it and that we can try to go another time, she snapped back at me and said “ I don’t even get why you invited your friend, you were crying to me on the phone about her the other day about how she doesn’t like you”. For context, I was talking a different friend to her, not the one I invited to the dinner… Just goes to show how much she pays attention when I talk to her. So now not only did she pout the whole dinner, she exposed one of my most vulnerable moments with her to our entire extended family at the dinner table.

She struggles with her mental health (OCD and anxiety) and apparently is in therapy/on medication for that. I also struggle with anxiety and MH issues, not on the level she does, but I just don’t think that’s an excuse to act like an asshole. She’s constantly talking over people, answering questions on behalf of people who are sitting right there and being directly asked the question, and having tantrums when things don’t go her way. In addition to the mental health, I believe she has a drinking problem. Because she’s on medication, it only takes her one drink to get insanely drunk, and she never stops at one. Most of our fights occur when she is drunk and can no longer control herself. My parents do agree that she has some sort of issue, but they never really do anything about it and while that really irks me, I don’t necessarily blame them because at this point she’s 30 years old and should know better. I try to talk about these issues, but she loves to brush things under the rug and move on or gets very defensive.

I’ve kind of always put up with it because at the end of the day she’s my only sibling and it makes me sad to not have a relationship with her. These incidents and more make me think I’m done putting in the effort and she really needs to work on herself before I’m willing to give it another go on our relationship. It’s hard to put our entire story into words and I feel a bit disjointed, but open to questions and wondering if I’m overreacting in wanting to cut her off, even if temporarily?
