Hi,

I want to get some quotes to replace my current septic tank system with a new one.
I don’t think space is an issue.

Has anyone got advice on what companies to recommend or avoid?

My current system is very old school (old country house). I don’t want to go crazy on price but definitely don’t want to go cheap and regret it in a few years. There seem to be lots of different options from your traditional type to round systems that seems to be very fancy. I’m really clueless about this type of thing so would appreciate any guidance on what to look out for! Thanks.

No baffle the problem?

My system needs unblocking and emptying once a year at least. It gets totally backed up.
The last point of inspection before the tank, gets completely solid and it backs up the system from there. The fella who empties it and clears it all by blasting water said I’ve no tee piece on the entry inside the tank?

Could this be the issue?
I feel like it’s something else as the tank itself never overflows but the opening point before it does. I’m thinking of just getting a new system .

Meadow / Wildflowers

Is there any way at all to turn a grass area into something with wildflower WITHOUT ploughing or spraying and killing the grass? I tried cutting it really low and adding some compost and spreading a lot of wildflower seeds but it didn’t work and the seeds were not cheap. I got a few random ones which was nice but even they never came back or spread.

It’s gas how wildflowers infiltrate the areas I don’t want and I’m trying to defend my shrubs and wall plants from creeping buttercups but where I want it, all I get is long grass.

Extension v cabin/modular?

Some very basic research on house extensions suggests that adding a bedroom and en-suite could cost up to 200 grand but adding a log cabin with a bedroom, bathroom and extra space is definitely less than 50k?

What’s the deal there? Yes they may not be as solid long term but could be replace several times over 🤔

Max out your pension

I’m in my 40s and started my pension late so playing catch up. I’m currently putting in 23% of my salary into the pension pot. It’s a lot each month but I’m getting by. My thoughts are that this is my future investment and I’ve no other investments. I try and save a little in the credit union also.

I always see a lot of people advising to max out your pension but just wanted to sense check if this is still good advice or whether putting more into my savings bank account would be better considering risks of stock market collapse, AI etc?

How secure really is a pension fund and would it at least be as good as a savings account in a worst case scenario?

Farm drivers - PLEASE SLOW DOWN!

I know farmers work hard and they need to act fast when the weather is good…

But why does almost everyone moving silage or crops have to speed on narrow country roads? Please slow down and have some respect for others and consider the width of your vehicle! There seem to be a lot of teenage boys driving for farmers and that’s the main problem.

Family sharing with profiles?

I’m trying to share my Apple TV with my other half who has a Samsung tablet. We’ve separate profiles on the main tv app (firestick) but on the tablet there is no option to change profiles and it’s defaulted to mine.

Any way around this?

GAA plus start time MOAN

Why does the broadcast never ever start at the advertised time? Surely they could improve on this. I’m looking at a green screen every time.

Starfox thoughts?

What does everyone think of the Starfox demo?
I think it looks fantastic! Very impressive visually!
I’ve never played a Starfox game before and not sure the gameplay is for me. I think I’d enjoy that new R-Type game more so might buy that instead. Even though I’d prefer to be going for the big first party game.

Easiest tv supplier for elderly?

Due to signal reasons, I need to move my elderly parents away from sky satelite.

What was good about it: a familiar system where you punch in a number to change channels. They had them memorized and I wrote them down also for reference. They struggled with the menus otherwise. Not that they can’t learn but it’s when things go wrong that they got stuck and give up easily.

I’m a bit nervous about all the streaming options as they use apps as opposed to numbers? I hear virgin might do numbers but doesn’t seem to be available to them.

Does anyone have experience with Vodafone tv, Eir tv etc? How easy are they to use with nervous elderly in mind?
