The one thing that bothers me about this entire series

Look, half life 1 is the first game I ever finished since I discovered it accidentally in my CS1.6 folder (thought someone else added an extra game to my grandmas PC) and half life 2 is depending on the day anywhere in my top 3 games of all time.

But for fk sake, how can you explain why is Gordon NEVER mentioning the GMAN to anyone.

After half life 2 ends and the nova prospekt explosion happens and you finally get back to Kleiner he starts thinking of how the hell you got out alive. Why isnt Gordon saying that there is this interdimensional dude that he sees everywhere, whispers sweet nothings in his ear and has insane powers that might have something to do with it.

How can I study better retention?

No offense, but random redditor answers and 10k views from youtube "teaching" me how to hook people in is not what I need. We are all different and have different channels and we are still kinda small too so yea. I would not take advice from someone like me either, not in that position yet.

My retention has actually dropped lately. I only do long form and used to average around 40-45% but now I barely hit 30% of that. No idea why, literally none at all.

Thing is, I dont actually understand the "science" behind writing a good script and good retention. I would like to deep dive into it and just learn. But I have no idea how. I am sure something like this must exist, some kind of book, article or some really trustworthy person sharing this knowledge. Do you know of something like that?

Also, my audience is not very young. Its late 20s to early 40s mostly so the super flashy and fast editing is not the way for me.

As a noob, especially as a noob, I hate night elf so much

Not much to say. I am sure there are counters, I am sure there are a billion things I can do to be better and defeat them, but I have to say this race makes the game less fun for me. Even I can already spot how forgiving it is, those moonwells.

Their heroes are made just to make the game less fun, they are not even that good (with the exception of DH of course). DH manaburns. so fun. Keeper gets free kills for absolute 0 effort until you get dispell (he will get a bunch of free picks)

Total noob problem here, but until I fix it, and it takes time, if you EVER forget to scout against a NE and they go warden its over because you did not play into her weakness.

Priestess is the only hero I see (I never actually see her) and know I could win this game with an under 120 apm.

I know NE is probably the most hated race even among good players, but even here in the mud god it sucks to see them. If I see other race and I see them make mistakes, I look at that mistake and I smile. A NE with bad micro or bad positinoing? Teleport out of the fight come back with full HP.

And just as the chery on top, the most cheese cringe ass builds, they are always NE because they can hide their buildings and just surprise with 3 chimeras destroying your workers. Your heroes are like 5-4-3 and the night elf is like 4-3-2 your army is better, you get ready for that final push aaaaaand he destroys ur base.

Again, obviously these are noob problems, I am sure if most of you play in my place you would probably win, but even against players of my level god damn this race is the easiest to play, which is fine, one race has to be that at the end of the day, but it also the most forgiving and that combo sucks

Lost 4 games in a row to NE had to rant

Noob question, pls help

Oy, I came back and finally got out of my 19% WR prison. Got from 300 MMR on warcraftchampions to 888 and growing.

But I still find it very difficult to deal with some builds. Could you give me some general tips for them?

For undead :

- Dreadlord sleep surrounds from the start of the game

- Crypt lord beetles rush

Human:

- Tower rush

Orc:

- Blade creep jack early on (how do you even stop him for real??)

Night elf:

- Mass bears

I play orc. Most of these are early game things. I see that once I get out of the early game I literally never lose anymore, but my early game seems trash since that is where all my loses are. I just feel like unless i go farseer first and have a shop and have ~2 units made already I just cannot stand a chance at all. And I really dont like playing farseer to be honest, so I also dont pick him that much, but even when I do, if I tier up fast I just lose because I cannot handle these

The decks you play against are all copy pasted from the internet and super non interactive. I played a ton this week and recorded the decks I faced, this is the top ~50% in order (all the way from gold 10 to plat 1) :

  • Imbue mage 20%
  • rafam warlock 10.3%
  • murloc paladin 6%
  • demon seed warlock 4.8%
  • boar warlock 4.6%
  • protoss mage 3%
  • survive 10 turns quest warrior 2.6%

These are in my opinion some of the most toxic decks with the exception of the quest warrior. You face these decks most of the time, and most of the time they play their single player game while you act like you being there matters at all and one turn you are just dead. Aggro is the only answer to this crap which I don't like to play, and even in that case, these decks are made to stall and deal with aggro so its not like you are 100% gonna beat them, its just that you might have a chance. Or you also play combo decks, which again, I don't really like.

So control, my favorite type of deck, is just not viable. There is nothing to control, these decks don't interact with you on the board. The only one that does is murloc paladin, and even in that case, you clear their gigantic board and next turn they get another gigantic board.

I am trying to get to legend, last 2 months I got to diamond 3 and diamond 1, and I still don't think it was a very enjoyable experience (almost 50% of my losses were to murloc paladin) but I still just wanted to reach legend once, so this month I decided to push more, and its been miserable. Even if I beat a rafam warlock for example because I hit one of their rafams with Mutanus, it is not fun to lose or win 100% based on RNG. Against imbue mage I either draw decent so I have some board presence to not die to their hero power pressing skills or I don't. Against demon seed warlock I usually cannot deal enough damage to their face. Against boar warlock I cannot develop fast enough before they get their combo. And its not like if we go in the second half of decks I played we get to happy land and the game is interactive, its still bad.

I have seen 1 single DK, 1 single hunter, only 2 priests. This is the wild game mode, where you can play everything with no restrictions and entire classes are just non existent.

And this is never gonna be okay, wild is definetly not wild, its very standard, you see the same decks that everyone copies. The only wild part is that people still play this shit and that anyone can find playing something like imbue mage fun at all. Its a larger and larger man situation, but instead of the large man its the large hero power. gg
