What are these? Help!

New to gardening, just arrived in Oregon and dug these out while trying to plant herbs. Walnut-sized or a little bigger. They didn’t have any stems or leaves. And they don’t smell particularly like anything, but they do have small roots like the one in the front.

Best place near Yachats to see the stars?

Our family is moving from Lawrence KS to Eugene OR. Before landing at our new home, we decided to rest and recover for two nights on the coast and found a place in Yachats that would let us bring our two cats with us. Our stay there happens to coincide with the Perseid meteor shower, so I thought it would be great to catch the sky show if we could. Assuming there aren’t clouds or smoke (which I realize are big assumptions), where might be the best place for viewing near there? Thanks in advance for any help! We are so excited to be moving to your beautiful state. ☺️

Free grey Joybird sofa on curb on Vermont St across from Cordley elementary playground. Come and get it!

The chaise end can be moved to either side. Comfy sofa, has a small dip in the middle but has served us well. Moving to the West coast tomorrow and it won’t fit in the new place.

ADHD and grief

I lost a dear friend this week. It was unexpected and I’m gutted. This is not my first time being visited by grief— I’ve lost both parents and other friends before, but it is my first time grieving after my adhd diagnosis which has me wondering if we experience grief differently than neurotypical folks. I work in a creative field and I’m finding it very challenging to do my work alongside missing my friend. Welcome the experiences of others… thanks.

Mover recs (unloaders)

Hi all, our family is moving to Eugene in August from the Kansas City area. We’re using U-Pack for the transport of our stuff but I’m hoping to hire a local crew of 2-3 to help unload our truck (3 bedroom house). Any recommendations for some good local help who might be able to do this for us?

Moving recs?

We are moving from Lawrence to the PNW. We’ve arranged a U-pack truck but I’d prefer to hire local loaders to help us pack it. Does anyone have recommendations for where I might hire - crew of 2-3 moves to help us load it?

What do you love about the middle school or high school your child attends?

Hi Eugene!
With the understanding that no school is perfect, what are you loving about your child’s middle or high school?

My partner and I are relocating from the KC area to your beautiful city in August (she accepted a job this week.) We are queer, down-to-earth, friendly folks with two girls who will be entering middle school (6 gr) and high school (9 gr) and are hoping to find safe/inclusive/caring schools with good activities/clubs for them to plug into and connect with others. (They are currently loving music, theater, track, and visual arts.)

Based on our limited web research, we are leaning a bit toward South Eugene/Churchill HS and Roosevelt/Spencer Butte/Kennedy MS.

Additionally, we’re looking for a rental home too— welcome any advice re: property management companies that are good (or those that should be avoided!) We are responsible renters with good credit, seeking 3 bd/2ba that will make space for our two neutered cats too. Photo of cats for tax. 😸 Thanks in advance for whatever wisdom you are willing to share with us. We are excited to soon be part of your community!

Reply letter from Roger Marshall

This just arrived—months after my call to him on this topic. The only edit I’ve made is removing my identifying info.

Does anyone know why the gorgeous trees at Kauffman Memorial Gardens are gone?

Stopped by for a peaceful morning stroll and was gutted to see the beautiful tree arch all mowed down. Does anyone know why this happened?
