Switching from boxing to Muay Thai and the stance is messing with my head

boxing for like 4 years and I thought I was pretty decent. Decided to try Muay Thai cause I wanted to round out my striking and I feel like a complete beginner again. The stance alone is throwing me off so much

In boxing im used to being more bladed, weight on the back foot, ready to move in and out. In Muay Thai they want me more square and heavier on the front leg and I keep getting caught flat footed. My coach keeps yelling at me to stop bouncing so much cause im apparently setting myself up to get kicked but its just muscle memory at this point. Also the whole teep thing. I keep trying to jab and getting my legs kicked for it lmao

The kicks are fun though ngl. Landing a solid leg kick feels way more satisfying than I expected. My shins are absolutely destroyed though and I bruise like a peach so my legs look like a mess right now. The coach showed me a few things about rotating the hips more and it made a huge difference even if my body still refuses to cooperate consistently

One of the guys there told me they also have like a striking fundamentals class that focuses more on the basics for people transitioning from other styles. I think its called Team Perosh MMA or something, its the gym in Five Dock. Might check that out cause I clearly need to rebuild from the ground up. But honestly im kinda enjoying being a beginner again. Its humbling but also nice to actually learn something new instead of just polishing the same stuff

Anyone else here transition from boxing? How long did it take you to unlearn the boxing habits? And how do you stop yourself from instinctively going into a boxing stance when you get pressured? My brain just defaults to what it knows and then I eat a kick

I hit my 30s and genetics stopped cutting it

I’m in my 30s, and lately, I’ve been having some honest conversations with myself every time I catch my reflection. This isn’t some dramatic health crisis. I’m not significantly overweight. My doctor isn’t concerned. From the outside, most people would say I look perfectly normal

But I’ve noticed changes. The kind that creep in so slowly that by the time you realize it’s happening, it’s already been going on for a while. My abdomen isn’t as tight. My arms don’t have that firm look they used to. Gravity is making steady progress despite my protests. Not much and but enough that I feel compelled to act

Strangely enough, I've had this conversation with myself before. Quite a few times, in fact. I've done workouts and fitness programs from YouTube, subscribed to apps, bought gym membership, did two-week to 1 month periods of jogging that mysteriously vanished from my routine. Each time, it starts with a bang. I am pumped up, I purchase some new workout clothes, I come up with a plan. And then life catches up with me

I've learned it wasn't lack of motivation after all. It was lack of accountability. On my own, it is easy to talk myself out of skipping today's workout because I am too busy. Tomorrow will become next week... Months will fly by…

That is what makes this experience unique. Instead of putting together yet another randomly chosen program from Instagram, I have been researching personal trainers and reading reviews about how to make fitness a part of my routine. I've stumbled upon references to the best NYC trainer and decided to consider it seriously. Not that I expect a miracle to happen

It is just easier to be consistent when you know someone is waiting for you

I’m not looking for perfect abs or a dramatic before-and-after. I just want to feel stronger, more energized, and comfortable in my body again. And I’d love to stop restarting the same fitness cycle every six months.

For those who’ve made real changes in their 30s and how did you finally create consistency? Was it nutrition, training, a coach, or just building better habits?

Anyone else prefer keeping business services local on the Coast instead of Brisbane?

Hey guys, just wanted to see what other local business owners around here think about this. When we started our setup, we were told we had to look towards Brisbane for things like accounting, tax structures and legal stuff if we wanted proper corporate advice.

We actually tried a Brisbane firm for a bit and it was just annoying. Every single meeting felt super clinical, everything was buried in heavy financial jargon and they just did not get how business moves on the Sunshine Coast.

Lately we decided to pull everything back locally. Looked around a bit and ended up moving our stuff to Wardle Partners over in Caloundra, though there are a few other decent local firms around the coast too. Honestly it is just a relief dealing with normal people who you can actually grab a coffee with, who give you upfront pricing and do not make your brain melt with nonsense.

It made me want to shift the rest of our professional services, like IT and insurance, completely to local Coast providers now.

If you run a business here, do you feel like you get better results keeping your network strictly on the Coast, or do you still outsource to the bigger city firms?

voice traffic over VPN. yes or no

we're rolling out a new phone system and I keep going back and forth on whether agents should use VPN for calls.

some of our people are in countries where we can't have direct SIP access because of firewall nonsense. but also VPN adds overhead and latency which is the last thing you want for voice.

the platform has their own WebRTC stuff and honestly it works pretty well without VPN in most places. tested it from like 5 different countries and the quality was fine. but security is always the excuse for everything.

I had a meeting yesterday where manager was like but what if someone intercepts the calls. I'm like it's encrypted it's literally encrypted. we use TLS and SRTP what are you gonna intercept.

but I'm still getting pushback from the security team who want everything tunneled even if it breaks the calls. and they're not the ones dealing with the complaints when quality drops.

curious what you guys are doing. voice over VPN or direct internet access. I'm leaning towards direct because it's simpler and the quality is better. but maybe I'm missing something

Do patients come in already convinced they know their skin diagnosis?

Asking because of something I watched a family member go through. She had pigmentation issues for years and tried everything she found online: YouTube routines, Reddit recommendations, blog posts. By the time she actually saw a specialist, her treatment plan looked nothing like what she'd been doing.

For anyone in derm rotations or who sees a lot of skin cases, how common is it for patients to walk in with a firm selfdiagnosis from social media? And do you find those cases harder to manage because you're also undoing what they already think they know?

saving time on repetitive carrier calls, what's working for you

honest question, how much of your day is just the same 3 calls on repeat. check in, rate confirm, update status. i've been looking at tools that automate that loop and stumbled on numeo ai, it does ai-powered carrier communication and negotiation which sounds gimmicky but genuinely cut down some of my volume work. would love to know what others are doing to handle the repetitive side without burning out

Found a crack in the wall and now I can't sleep…

So I was doing some deep cleaning over the weekend. Moved the fridge out to sweep behind it, and that's when I saw it

A crack. Running from the floor up the wall. Nothing huge at first glance

Then I went to check out the basement

The crack appears there as well. And it's huge. I can literally fit my fingers in it. I was standing there looking at it, my heart beating like crazy, convincing myself that it's not a big deal. Just settling of an old house. This is what I keep repeating to myself

But I haven't slept properly since

I called several contractors. Explained to them the situation, showed pictures. All of them told me the same thing that it must be just paint or something and there is nothing to worry about." One of them didn't even come to have a look. Just gave his opinion by phone

I want to believe them. I really do. But this feeling won't go away

What if they are wrong? What if my foundation is moving, but no one noticed that because no one came and looked at it? I have already read enough horror stories of people ignoring the cracks and suddenly finding out they need $30K for the foundation repairs

Sure Building Inspection was another thing I found online. I think they conduct structural inspections. Perhaps I should give them a call, just to have my mind at rest. Perhaps they will tell me that I am being paranoid. Or perhaps they will find something that will scare me even more

But before I make that call, I need to ask you all

Am I being paranoid? Has anyone else dealt with cracks like this and had it be nothing? Or should I trust my gut and get a professional out here as soon as possible? I just want to sleep again

this is not about car parts but i just got my first new car and i want to keep it looking good. i am not sure where else to ask so i figured car guys might know about washing. i have heard some bad stories about automatic car washes scratching the paint or leaving water spots so i want to be careful.

we have a local touchless car wash that it is considered the best car wash in our city and i would like to try there.

what is the real difference between touchless and regular automatic washes? how does a touchless one like the new flamingo car wash work exactly and what should i watch out for when using it? any tips for keeping a new car clean without damaging it?

The engineering behind mobile MRI and X-ray trucks

I never really thought about it until today, but the logistics of putting heavy diagnostic gear into a vehicle are insane. Like, how do you keep a sensitive, multi-million dollar imaging machine perfectly calibrated while hitting potholes on the highway?

I ended up down a rabbit hole reading CraftsMen site that builds them, and the amount of custom fabrication is crazy. They literally have to reinforce the whole chassis, install industrial-grade shock absorption, and build separate power grids and climate systems just so the radiation shielding doesn't crack. Tbh, it's a miracle the equipment doesn't break down after two miles on a rough road.

Idk, from a technical standpoint, it's pretty impressive how they basically build a mini medical bunker on a trailer.

▲ 5 r/hotels

Our cleaning team shrank, and now I'm considering a cleaning company. Good idea or bad idea?

I own a small boutique hotel in Memphis, and housekeeping has become my biggest headache. We had a great crew, but people moved or left for other jobs. Now we're down to three rock stars working almost every day with no time off.

I even tried to employ more staff. But hiring is impossible... I spent hours looking at CVs and have absolutely nothing to show

And now, I am considering outsourcing. The thing is that I do not want to replace my present employees but rather just have someone to help out during peak times. The trouble is, I don't have a clue about whom to contact, whom to trust, and what questions to ask

whats the best ai video app rn? feels like a new one drops every week

im so behind on this lol. every time i scroll i see a new "ai video generator" being hyped up and i genuinely cant keep track anymore. some are insanely expensive too like $30-40/month just to figure out prompts that barely work half the time.

ive been messing around with Genematic AI lately bc its cheaper to start and has a bunch of premade scenarios so i dont have to write prompts myself which is honestly the part i hate most lol.

so. whats actually good right now? not looking for "the most advanced model ever" just stuff that actually works without a headache

For your tennis chain, what carat weight did you decide on?

I'm thinking about buying one, but I keep changing my mind about the size. Someone say go bigger because you'll get used to it fast, while others say a smaller chain gets way more wear. I've been looking at tennis chains from Leon Diamond and a few other stores, but it's difficult to distinguish between what looks excellent in real life and what is shown in the pictures.

What carat weight did you get if you own one, and would you choose it again?

Freelance/agency web devs, how are you managing clients without total chaos?

Maybe this is just a "too many tabs open" problem, but I feel like the actual dev work is the easy part.

The messy part is everything around it.

Client notes in email, project updates in Slack, invoices somewhere else, tasks spread between random apps, and then somehow still checking spreadsheets for stuff.

I mostly do small business/client work and hit a point where I realized I was wasting way too much mental energy just keeping things organized.

Started trying to simplify the whole process and testing more all-in-one systems instead of duct-taping tools together. Been messing with Flowii recently for client tracking + invoices + tasks in one place, mostly because I got tired of switching apps every 10 minutes.

Curious what other people here are actually using once projects start stacking up. Or does everyone just live in organized chaos?

What fishing technique took you the longest to actually get good at?

I have been fishing on and off for most of my life but only recently started taking it more seriously and trying to expand beyond just basic bait fishing. Over the past year I picked up spin casting pretty comfortably, but when I tried to learn how to properly work a jig I realized just how much of a learning curve some techniques actually have.

I spent probably three full weekends on the water before I stopped feeling completely lost with jigging. Getting the cadence right, knowing when a bite actually feels different from just hitting the bottom, reading the feedback through the line it all took way more practice than I expected.

I know a lot of experienced anglers on here have probably gone through the same thing with different techniques. Whether it was fly fishing, drop shotting, topwater presentation, trolling, or something else entirely, I am curious what took you the longest to feel confident with.

If you have any tips or resources that helped you click with a difficult technique faster I would love to hear them. I still feel like my jigging has a long way to go and I am always looking for advice from people who have been doing this longer than me.

What technique gave you the most trouble and how did you finally get it to stick?

Completely over the south county summer madness

Really hitting my breaking point with trying to do anything down near the beaches this year. just looked up what a basic weekend rental costs now and its genuinely insulting. who is paying $800 a night to stay in a damp basement in narragansett???

At this point Im entirely done fighting the route 4 traffic just to get ripped off. dragged the old family camper out of storage instead and just grabbed a site at Gibson Hill rv park for the weekend.

idk man, I just miss when you could actually afford to exist in this state during the summer without having to compete with thousands of out of state plates for a tiny patch of sand. just completely exhausting

How do you vet a new domestic wholesale supplier before committing to a big order?

Sourced overseas for years and this year finally got fed up enough to try a US option. Customs delays killed my Q4 last year, had a shipment stuck for 3 weeks right when I needed it most. Run a Shopify store and eBay, general merchandise mostly.

Someone in a reseller group mentioned Kole Imports wholesale supplier out of Carson CA so tried them about 2 months ago. First order was like $400, household stuff, seasonal, some personal care. Margins were fine, nothing crazy but enough to reorder.

Still figuring out how to properly test a new supplier before going bigger. Like do you just pick one product and see if it sells, or order a mix and figure it out. With general merch it's extra annoying cause half the catalog changes by the time you want to reorder anyway.

Anyone here actually running domestic vendors for general merch on FBA? Still not sure if the margin hit worth it or am I overthinking this.
