I designed a complete Shopify bookstore experience that never launched, and I'd love to help it find a home

A few weeks ago, I worked on a complete Shopify website and brand identity project for an online bookstore.

Due to some unexpected changes, the collaboration ended before launch. The design, branding, and overall concept were already developed, and I feel the work is too valuable to just sit unused.

The vision behind the project was to create something different from the typical online bookstore experience:

  • A cute, hand-drawn visual style that creates a memorable brand personality.
  • A distinct brand world that helps a bookstore stand out instead of blending into a sea of generic e-commerce stores.
  • A playful and inviting shopping experience that makes discovering books feel more personal.

For me, web design is a form of digital art. It is not just about creating pages, but about building a world that customers can connect with.

I would love for this work to continue living through a creative bookstore or small business that connects with the vision behind it.

I'm open to adapting the concept for the right fit at no cost. I would simply appreciate honest feedback and a testimonial if the collaboration works out.

I designed a complete Shopify bookstore experience that never launched, and I'd love to help another bookstore use it

Over the past few weeks, I worked on a complete Shopify website and brand identity project for an online bookstore.

Due to some unexpected changes, the collaboration ended before the store could launch. The branding, design system, and website concept were already developed, and I genuinely believe the work could help another bookstore create a stronger online presence.

While building it, I focused on creating a bookstore experience that feels different from the usual online shops:

  • A cute, hand-drawn visual style that creates a warm and memorable brand personality.
  • A distinct brand world that helps the bookstore stand out from competitors instead of blending in with typical e-commerce designs.
  • A playful and inviting experience that makes browsing books feel more personal and enjoyable.

Rather than letting the work remain unused, I'd love to adapt the concept for one bookstore that feels like the right fit.

There is no cost involved. I would simply appreciate an honest review and feedback after the project is complete.

If you run an online bookstore or know someone who might benefit from this, feel free to comment or message me. I'd love to connect.

Branded Dropshipping: Everything You Need to Know

Yo everyone! I'm a brand and web designer who works with D2C brands

A few days ago, I came across this subreddit and learned the term "Branded Dropshipping." It perfectly describes something I've been seeing for years.

One of the biggest problems with traditional dropshipping is that almost every store uses the same supplier photos and videos. As a result, many websites end up looking identical.

If you're running paid ads, there's a good chance your potential customer will see your ad and your competitor's ad within the same browsing session. When both stores use the exact same product images, it becomes difficult to stand out, and the product can feel less authentic or trustworthy.

For me, branded dropshipping isn't about putting your logo on the product or creating custom packaging from day one. It's still dropshipping. You don't need to change your supplier, hold inventory, create custom packaging, or take extra fulfillment steps.

Branded dropshipping is simply about making your business look and feel like a real brand through your website and marketing.

That can include:

  • A professional logo and visual identity.
  • Your own product photography instead of supplier images.
  • Investing in quality UGC that feels authentic.
  • A clean, trustworthy website with consistent branding.
  • Clear messaging that makes your store memorable.

The goal isn't just to look prettier. It's to build trust. People buy from brands they feel are legitimate, especially when they've never heard of you before.

Should everyone do this from the start?

Not necessarily.

If you're still validating a product, it probably doesn't make sense to spend a lot on branding, a premium website, product shoots, and UGC.

But if you've found a product that's already working and you're looking to scale, investing in branding can help you separate yourself from the dozens of stores selling the exact same thing while still keeping the same dropshipping model behind the scenes.

I'd love to hear your thoughts. For those of you who moved from a generic dropshipping store to a branded one, did you notice a difference in conversions or customer trust?

Portfolio Building: Looking to Build 3 Shopify Stores for Free

Hey everyone,

I'm currently learning Shopify store design and want to build a strong portfolio using real businesses instead of fictional projects.

I'm looking for 3 eCommerce founders who are either launching a new brand or thinking about redesigning their existing store.

The goal isn't to sell anything. I simply want to gain experience, solve real problems, and create work I'm proud to showcase.

In return, I'd appreciate honest feedback and, if you like the result, a testimonial that I can include in my portfolio.

I'm curious:

  • If you were launching a Shopify store today, what would be your biggest challenge?
  • What's one thing you wish developers did better when building stores?

If anyone thinks this could be a good fit, feel free to leave a comment and I'll reach out.

Thanks!

Looking to build 2-3 Shopify stores at an early portfolio rate

website in progress

Hi everyone!

I'm a Shopify designer who's just starting out professionally, and I'm looking to work with 2-3 small businesses that are planning to launch or redesign their online store.

What I can help with:

  • Shopify store setup
  • Homepage and product page design
  • Collection pages
  • Mobile optimization
  • Theme customization
  • Store polishing before launch

Since I'm building my portfolio, I'm offering an introductory rate of ₹5,000 to ₹15,000, depending on the scope of the project. In return, I'd appreciate permission to showcase the finished store in my portfolio and, if you're happy with the result, a testimonial.

I'm also open to taking on a project for free or as a barter, especially if I genuinely love your product or brand. If it's something I'd be excited to feature in my portfolio, I'm happy to discuss those options as well.

If you're a small business owner thinking about upgrading your existing Shopify store, feel free to comment below or send me a DM. Even if we don't end up working together, I'm happy to answer Shopify-related questions.

Looking forward to connecting with fellow entrepreneurs!

Is offering free work a good way to get your first clients?

Hi everyone,

I'm a Shopify designer and developer, and I'm at the stage where I need a few real client projects to build my portfolio and case studies.

I've been thinking about offering 2 complete Shopify stores for free to small businesses. The goal isn't to build a business around free work. I simply want to gain experience working with real clients, collect testimonials, and create strong case studies that I can use to attract paying clients later.

My concern is whether this is actually a good strategy.

Would you see a free offer as a red flag, or would it make you more willing to work with someone who's just getting started?

If you were a small business owner, what would make you trust someone enough to let them build your website, even if they were offering it for free?

I'm genuinely looking for advice from people who've been through this, whether as freelancers or business owners. If you've used free work to get your first clients, I'd love to hear what worked and what you'd do differently.

Thanks in advance!
