My VP said he wanted to meet to coach me. I met with him today and he didn’t coach me on anything. What gives?
I’m a more junior member on the team and I’ve been asked to lead some cross-functional meetings every month with a lot of global partners. After the last meeting, he suggested we meet 1 on 1 so he can coach me more on how to drive the meetings. He said it felt like there was some gaps in the dialogue. He framed it like it was great idea to take him up on, so I was all for it.
Today, I meet with him and he seemed in a bad mood. He reads over my slide deck I prepared. Adds like one sentence to a slide. And says he has nothing to add, seems low risk and good to go. The meeting only lasted 20 mins.
I walked out feeling pretty disappointed. I even mentioned, hey I know you said there was some gaps last time, how could I communicate better? And he just said meh it’s fine his low risk. Am I the only one that thinks the whole thing is weird? Why would he even bother asking me to meet?
