The Animistic Roots of Naga Aradhane: Why Tuluvas Should Preserve the Traditional, Yajamana Led Naga Tambila

Across Tulunadu, Naga Aradhane is synonymous with sacred groves (Nagabana), milk offerings, and deep respect for the soil. But as rituals become increasingly commercialized with complex homas, Ashlesha Bali, and elaborate temple setups, it is worth stepping back to examine what Naga worship originally meant in indigenous Tuluva culture and why our traditional practices deserve to be reclaimed. Long before external scriptural influences entered the coastal belt, early Tuluvas practiced direct nature and spirit worship (Dhaivaradhane and Nagaradhane).

The original Nagabana was not meant to be a concrete temple or a place for fire(Homa) . It was a living micro-forest an untouched piece of land reserved for the soil’s guardian spirit. While temple based Vedic rituals have their place in large public shrines, applying them to private, ancestral Kutumba Nagabanas risks erasing the distinct identity of Tuluva spirit traditions. Does your family still perform traditional, elder-led Naga Tambila at your ancestral Moolasthana or Guttu Mane, or have things shifted toward temple-style rituals? Are you OK with this synthesis in rituals continuing?

Anyone here heard of or used bribes.fyi? (Crowdsourced bribe tracking in India)

Hey Kudla / Mangalore came across bribes.fyi a platform meant for crowdsourcing anonymous reports on retail corruption and bribery across different government departments and cities.

Given our frequent interactions with local bodies around Mangalore (RTO, MCC, Village/Taluk offices, property registration, etc.), I was curious:Have any of you used or heard about this site before?Do you think public logging platforms like this actually help build awareness/pressure, or do they mostly end up as a place to vent?

Interested to hear your thoughts or if anyone here has successfully resisted bribe demands or reported them locally!,

Should Tulu artists refrain from making satire and comedy on someone’s physical or other deformities?

In Tulu theatre and comedy, it’s quite common to see jokes or satire built around someone’s physical appearance, speech, or disability. Many of us grew up watching such performances and laughing along often without realizing how deeply they might affect the person being mocked. Under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and the Supreme Court’s 2024 guidelines, mocking or stereotyping persons with disabilities in films, dramas, or public performances is now considered discrimination. The Court made it clear that such portrayals violate dignity and equality, and directed the Central Board of Film Certification and theatre boards to block content that ridicules or misrepresents disabled persons.

So while satire and humor are vital parts of Tulu culture, artists today carry a new responsibility ie to make people laugh without hurting or humiliating anyone’s identity or condition.

Maybe it’s time we evolve our comedy to reflect empathy and creativity rather than old stereotypes. After all, Tulu art has always been about community and respect.

What are some typical Playbooks of various political parties in Tulunadu during election season

We often hear about the strategies parties use during elections from invoking local identity and caste equations to highlighting infrastructure projects or stirring communal narratives. In Tulunadu, what are the recurring playbooks you’ve observed across different parties? For example, do they lean on cultural pride, coastal development promises, or polarization? How do these compare with tactics seen in other regions of India? or is it the same everywhere in India and other countries?

Why does India still lack technology sovereignty? ?

why dont we have true technology sovereignty? Why are we still dependent on foreign chips, foreign patents, foreign platforms? We’re importing chips, relying on foreign platforms, and chasing patents that are not ours. Is it just about money and infrastructure, or is there something deeper?I Is Casteism and hierarchy hold us back . talent gets divided instead of nurtured..Our mindset often values ritual and status over research, risk‑taking, and innovation. And of course, the brain drain so many brilliant people leave because they find respect and resources abroad.

What do you think? Is this really about caste and mindset, or are there other reasons? Curios to know what kudla thinks on this

Is the newly constructed flyovers in the NH after Udupi dwara of good quality?

Has anyone here driven regularly on the new flyovers along the NH stretch after Udupi dwara? I’m curious about the actual build quality things like road surface, drainage, finishing, and whether the design feels safe for heavy traffic.

From what I’ve seen, some of these structures look modern, but there are concerns about whether they meet proper highway construction standards. Do they hold up well during rains? Are there cracks, uneven joints, or poor signage?

How many atheists are in Mangalore? Why did you choose atheism?

curious about how many people in Mangalore identify as atheists and why? For many, atheism isn’t just about rejecting religion, it’s about questioning contradictions and hypocrisies we see around us:

Religious paradoxes: If God is allpowerful and just, why do innocent people suffer while corrupt leaders thrive?

Hypocrisy: People preach morality but exploit others in business, politics, or even within their own communities.

Corruption among religious figures: Temples, churches, mosques all have examples where leaders misuse faith for money or power.

Science vs superstition: Vast sums are spent on rituals, vastu corrections, or “remedies,” while real issues like flooding, pollution, and healthcare are ignored.

How many atheists do you think are in Mangalore?

What were the key factors that made you reject religion?

Do you feel atheism is growing here, especially among the younger generation?

Are new highways in Tulunadu well planned and top quality, or just pathetic?

The recent damage to the newly constructed Bikkarnakatte–Moodabidri road shows how fragile our infrastructure really is , it couldn’t even withstand the first rains. At many places, the curves don’t seem to have proper sloping, water drains etc ..raising serious questions about planning and engineering standards.

Why do you think Tulunadu’s road construction is of such low quality? Are these issues:

  • Technical flaws in design and execution?
  • Poor planning and lack of foresight?
  • Low commitment from contractors and engineers?
  • Or simply corruption at every level?
  • ANy other factors

Shouldn’t the government conduct independent audits and verify quality before releasing payments to contractors? if you delay your tax payment even once, the tax officer is right at your doorstep . why isn’t the same urgency applied to accountability in public works?

Would love to hear perspectives: is this a systemic failure, or can better oversight and stricter penalties actually fix the problem?

PFAS risks in Mangalore ,are local factories releasing “forever chemicals”?

PFAS (per‑ and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are often called “forever chemicals*;" because they do not break down in nature or the human body. They accumulate over time, and exposure has been linked to cancers, thyroid disease, immune suppression, and reproductive issues.

In Europe, countries like Italy have banned PFAS after major contamination scandals for example, the Miteni plant in Trissino, Italy, which polluted water supplies for hundreds of thousands of people. Executives were convicted, and the factory was shut down. Which factories in and around Mangalore could be releasing PFAS?

  • BASF India’s Surathkal site (South Asia’s largest BASF facility) handles specialty chemicals, including fluorochemicals.
  • MCF (Now Paradeep phosphates) at Panambur manufactures fertilizers and surfactants, which sometimes involve fluorinated compounds.
  • Smaller polymer and resin units in Baikampady Industrial Estate may also use fluorinated additives.

Given Mangalore’s rivers and proximity to the Arabian Sea, any PFAS discharge could spread quickly and affect both local communities and marine ecosystems.

Has anyone seen pollution control board reports or water testing data for PFAS in Mangalore? Shouldn’t we be demanding stricter monitoring before this becomes another Italy‑style disaster?

What percentage of Hindu government officials are corrupt, and why are so called religious people corrupt at work?

why do so called religious people, who claim to follow values of honesty and morality, often end up being corrupt in their workplace? Isn’t that fundamentally anti religion? Is corruption really linked to religion, or is it more about systemic issues like lack of accountability, political culture, and institutional decay? Are religious values just sidelined when it comes to power and money? whether corruption is tied to religion at all, or if it’s simply a universal human failing that cuts across communities.? Why don’t social groups and communities take an oath or at least openly discuss committing to integrity and non‑corruption in the workplace, especially in government jobs?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
