Manta Ecuador

I haven’t visited Ecuador in a couple of years because of safety concerns. My family still goes back to Manta, Manabí ( Where we’re from) but they hardly go out. I’ve always loved being out, exploring, and going to the beach, so I’m wondering if Cuenca or Quito might be a better option for my trip this summer. Any recommendations?

90 degree boots

My shop is now requiring boots with a 90-degree heel. I’ve always worn Red Wings, the Traction Tred Lite line doesn’t have a 90-degree heel.
I’ve worn Brunts before and found them really comfortable. I noticed they have a couple of models with a 90-degree heel, but I’ve seen mixed reviews on those specific pairs. Has anyone here worn them? Specifically the Marin pair If so, how have they held up, and have you had any issues with the heel or overall comfort?

Long island programs

I’m looking for recommendations for radiologic technology programs on Long Island besides Hunter. I completed all of my prerequisites, but unfortunately I was turned down by Hunter and I’m feeling a little discouraged.
Does anyone have suggestions for other programs or schools I should look into? I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

Boot advice

Hey all, I worked in the trades (electrician, to be exact) for a few years, and I’m heading back out there. I was never really a fan of steel-toe or composite toe boots. I tried a pair of Red Wings before and instantly went back to soft-toe boots.
The job I’m starting is pretty specific about wearing composite or steel-ltoe boots. I know they probably aren’t going around checking everyone’s boots, but I don’t want to be that person.
Has anyone else had the same struggle? If so what boots helped you adjust to composite toes? Or is it just something you never really get used to?

New Journey

Pretty stoked to start this new journey !
I was told by someone I'm not sure if they were trying to steer me away that MOFE electricians can end up feeling stuck and that there isn't much opportunity to move up. For those of you who actually do the job, has that been your experience?
Also, how fast-paced is the work? I tend to thrive in busy environments where there's always something going on. Is it generally pretty active, or does it sometimes feel like you're just waiting around?

Attainable or just a dream in 2026

Is owning a home in New York especially on LI or in Westchester still attainable with a railroad salary about 120k
My girlfriend also makes a decent income about 70k but I'd like to know I could afford and maintain the house on my income alone if I had to. I've been considering a multifamily home since the rental income could help offset the mortgage, and I'm okay with the responsibilities that come with being a landlord.
Has anyone with a similar household income bought recently? How's it going, and was it worth it?

Medical

So I have my medical coming up for the railroad for a MofE Electrician position.
What does the physical test usually consist of? Is it anything really strenuous? I heard it may involve lifting around 70 lbs and stepping over the third rail or similar tasks.
If anyone has been through it, I’d appreciate hearing what the physical exam was actually like. I’d appreciate any input! I know there isn’t much information out there since it seems pretty lowkey.

Weight lifting

Has anyone with PCOS had success losing weight or improving their symptoms through lifting?

If so, how many days per week did you lift weights? I hear over doing it isn’t good either. Trying to find an alternative to glp-1 as im terrified of side effects.

Has anyone successfully resolved inter-dog aggression?

We have two fixed French Bulldogs (both adopted after fostering them together for a year with no issues):
Male, 4, is the aggressor
Female, 6, is very calm/non-reactive
They lived peacefully for a year we fostered before adopting ,but recently he has become fixated on her and will attack unpredictably. We separate them for feeding and manage triggers, but the safe “peaceful” time in the house is getting shorter and harder to maintain.
Has anyone dealt with something similar and found a real solution?

New driver opportunity

Are UPS drivers still part of the Teamsters union? A friend of mine received a conditional job offer for a driver position, which I know is pretty uncommon. Could this be because some drivers opted for the recent buyout? Overall, is UPS driving still considered a good long-term career path?

Thinking about switching paths and wanted to get some real-world opinions. 30 years old not old but not young either.

For those in the trades or transit/utility work which do you think is better long term: Local 1 Plumbers or MOFE electrician (LIRR maintenance field electricians)?
