Star Wars (EU/Legends!) pre Blockade of Naboo Self-Insert idea

Hey guys,

so I am thinking about writing another fanfiction (just to be clear, I have written some over the years, but I've never published any - hell, I've lost a lot when my desktop PC broke - so I might not publish this one either...I am bit self-conscious about my writing, my self-confidence was ruined by some experiences in my past, lets leave it at that)...still, so the premise is a self-insert with the following parameters so far:

- the SI gets dumped on the steps in front of the Jedi-Temple on Coruscant shortly before or during 44 BBY (so around the year of the Stark Hyperspace war - unless you think I should go earlier?) in the body of a Shi'ido (a natural shape-shifter, that can even turn into a rock or a tree - so unlike clawdites who can only do humanoids)

- the SI is Force Sensitive, but isn't truly into being a Jedi (philosophical differences, including finding the Jedi-Code dumb and frankly irresponsible and dangerous (denying your emotions? Meditate the emotions away? Any therapist would call that stupid and harmful!), just like taking kids from their families and indoctrinating them and not allowing them to do things outside of being a Jedi - unless sent to refuse heap known as the Service corps!) and will most likely leave the order (haven't decided if the character will do so before being sent to the Service Corps or after becoming a Knight...then again: Which Jedi-Master around at this time would train a student that (despite being driven and talented - an adult with a child's neuroplasticity would after all be a sight to behold, especially if you throw the cheat-code known as the force into the mix!) outright calls the Jedi out on their bullshit! Including saying "You are just the other side of the coin! If the Sith are heads, you are tails and equally flawed!")

- the character would of course use the time at the temple to learn everything they can (lightsaber fighting, force powers, information) and they would pull an Anakin (in the EU Anakin was sneaking out of the Temple regularly! Hell, he went fucking pod-racing and acquired some nice things - including a pyronium nugget (which he later gave to Jax Pavan, who used it later to fight the Empire by empowering a force illusion if I remember correctly)...hell, this character would contact the Teepo Paladins (they operated from the Temple on Coruscant after all) to learn to use a blaster like they do (they can to with a blaster what jedi do with a lightsaber) and squirel away information (so basically access as much about the force, force nexi, old jedi and sith worlds and temples etc. etc.) for later use!

- after leaving the first goal of the character is getting into mercenary work and bounty hunting (to get money and a reputation)

- secondary goals are collecting force artifacts and knowledge and contacting the other force sects like the Matukai!

- the mercenary work should lead to the character putting together a mercenary force or really a private military company (so something akin to the Ailon Nova Guard, the Mystril Shadow Guard, the Sun Guard, the Aurodium Sword etc.)...so something like Blackwater (but without the scandals, the SI is a former Jedi and will not condone stuff like looting - except enemy assets, those will be taken! Also no torture, rape, unprovoked murder etc.)

- next goal is acquiring warships (so whatever can be had at that time, so stuff like Dreadnought-Class Heavy Cruiser (with heavy automation and droids, can't have then need over 10K personal for one!), Hammerhead-Cruisers and even ancient derelicts etc.) because the character wants to basically punch the Trade Federation in the face when they blockade Naboo and capture their Lucrehulks to turn into mobile bases and manufacturing hubs to kick-start their own faction

So that's all I have so far, now thing is how do you think the Jedi-Order would react to a former member (even one who outright stated from the start that they didn't want to be a Jedi really) going around doing all this? Would they try to kill the SI? Lock them up? I mean being a force sensitive and not a Jedi is not actually illegal and neither is running a PMC! Hell, you could say that the Outland Region Security Force is basically a PMC and they were allowed to exist and even given judicial surplus equipment etc.

What would Palpatine and Dooku think? How about the dark-side adepts they use...hell, how would the Jedi react if this character started to actively recruit those they threw away (Service Corps members)?

What sort of ships would you get if you had to break the Blockade of Naboo?

Hm...so if you were a mercenary force (think Ailon Nova Guard, Sun Guard etc. - so not just a small outfit with 50 guys or so, but several hundred or even thousand people, but not enough to run 100 capital ships! Basically a small planetary defense force (PDF) - but with capital ships, unlike the Naboo!) and you had to break the Blockade of Naboo the old fashioned way (and maybe at best make of with a few of those juicy Lucrehulks and their droid-contingents!), what sort of ships would you use? I mean we are talking about Ruusan Reformation Restrictions still in place, the only really large warships that exist (that aren't even for sale on the open market!) are the Mandator 1s that Kuat provides to Core Worlds and for the protection of Kuat/Kuat Drive Yards itself!

Other than the (manpower heavy - unless you go Katana-Fleet-Automation, but even then they are still manpower hogs) Dreadnought-Class Heavy Cruiser there is not much around (unless you can find/salvage older ships...but those would need expensive upgrades, refits...) that has a chance against a Lucrehulk...and even with Dreadnought-Cruisers you'd need 30 or so I think to stand a chance!

As a bonus I'll throw in that the leader is force sensitive (a former Jedi - so he knows a thing or two, from infiltrating a ship himself, to Battle-Meditation) and a shapeshifter (a Shi'ido to be exact) and you have some commandos that are as effective as Mandalorian super-commandos (but instead of Beskar'gam they are wearing vacuum rated phrik-plated Corellian Power-Suits, with jetpacks and jet-boots (think Cad Bane))...still, they can't outright fight the whole droid-army (so the Gungans and Naboo need to play their part on the ground and the N1 Starfighters will help in Orbit of course!)

So, what ships do you think you'd need for this (that you can also get crewed with at maximal 10K people and that are available at this point in time!) and what tactics would you use? The blockading force will most likely not chase you, throwing asteroids at them or something (which endangers Naboo itself, even if you only hit the ships, but a Lucrehulk falling out of orbit could deal a lot of damage!) will most likely not work...so, ideas?

Personal equipment/weapons for a mercenary?

Hey guys,

so am thinking about writing a fanfiction (no: I don't know if I will ever publish it, I am not that confident in my writing - not to mention it's just a thought experiment/plot bunny currently), about a (former) jedi who left the order (either before ever even becoming a padawan, over differences of philosophy/disagreement with the code, because they were being sent to "refuse bin" (otherwise known as the Service Corps!) or after becoming a knight)...the time is before the Empire was declared by Palpatine.

Now this character would need to find work and simply being a pilot is not enough, this character wants to do mercenary and bounty hunter work and therefore needs to put together good gear for a personal armory/arms locker on their ship. The character has his lightsabers, but using these openly all the time is just asking for trouble or for jedi (who might also be trouble) showing up.

So what would you get?

I'll start us off:

- at least two Corellian Power Suits (with a vacuum rated undersuit/body-glove), which will get a phrik-coating (or Beskar) as soon as feasible and Mandalorian-Style vambraces with tech gadgets (flamethrower, dart-launcher, circle-shield-projector etc.)

- jetpack and jet-boots (think Cad Bane and Mandalorian Super Commandos) for aided mobility (even in a vacuum)

- Taozin-Nodule (helps with hiding yourself in the force)

- A pyronium nugget (can absorb vast amounts of energy and even be used to give yourself a boost in the force)

- A beskar or phrik vibro-sword and knife

- Some phrik or beskar throwing knives/darts

So you are up, please give a make and model for weapon choices (if such a thing exists!) and a reason why you chose that :)

ps: Do name things people might not think of at first or very unknown things! Money is not an object, neither is availability (so feel free to name rare things, too)

pps: Mods on Star Wars EU subreddit suck!

What ships would you chose if you had to put together a mercenary task force/fleet during the Clone Wars?

Hey guys,

Imagine you are a former Jedi (either left as a knight or even before becoming even a padawan, because you were to be sent to the refuse bin known as the Service Corps over philosophical differences (like you disagreeing with the Jedi-Code)!) at the start of the Clone Wars! You are running your own mercenary group (so something between Rahm Kota's militia and the likes of the Ailon Nova Guard, Sun Guard, Echani etc.) and you want to expand (thus you scavenge the Clone Wars battlefields, you even help the Republic/Jedi out on occasion, in return for pay, salvage-rights and the opportunity to purchase newer warships from say Kuat, CEC, Rendili etc.)

Your final goal is a fleet that is not only highly dangerous, can basically face anything short of say a Subjugator (Malevolence) or even a Mandator II, but can also survive the Empire (so you need things like mobile docks and supply ships, too and at best mobile-factory-ships and equipment for asteroid-mining and refining of ores, fuel, building components etc.)

So what ships do you focus on (final fleet should be around 50 main line combat ships, capable of fighting stuff like a Lucrehulk, Providence, Venator, Victory and even Tectors and Imperial-Class!) and how do you upgrade them to make them even more dangerous and capable (so things like redundant-shield-generators, hangars (on a Munificent that normally doesn't have any), 1.0 hyperdrives (no military ship should have a slower IMHO) etc.)?

Give me your best shot - use ships from both sides (note: I don't especially care for the Venator! I think it's under gunned and I am not the greatest fan for starfighters either...prefer gun- and missile-boats), things available on the free market and even the past (so if you have a good reason for say bringing an Inexpugnable tactical command ship and can think of a way you'd get one? Sure! Same for Centurion-Cruisers, Harrowers etc.)

ps: Anything below 100 meters I am not counting against the limit (hell, I am also not counting resupply ships and mobile-docks either, as they are not truly combatants!)...still, please don't do a 10K Skip-Ray thing (or in Stellaris-Terms: No, 10K Laser-Corvettes don't count!)

If you were an Imperial Remnant Admiral and found a single of those Ion-Pulse-Weapons like on the Malevolence, what ship would you attach it to, if you don't have a Subjugator-Hull available and can't quickly build one?

Hey guys,

so for an Imperial-Remnant-Admiral, even one of those Ion-Pulse-Weapons from Malevolence would be a game changer - especially if you are strapped for ships and don't control say Kuat, Rendilli, Fondor, Mon-Cal, Corellia (CEC), Sluis Van, Foerost, Bilbringi, Rothana etc. etc. (or any of the other large shipyards).

Doesn't matter where you found it, it's intact (your engineers have checked and basically taken it apart to learn how it ticks, so you will in time be able to make more) and you now need a vessel you can hook it up to, to send it raiding, so you can take over whatever large ships you come across :)

What do you chose? Especially if you have to take into account that a raiding-force should be fast (it will get at last one Interdictor attached and protection for the Ion-Weapon-Carrier, several ISDs etc.), it needs to be decently maneuverable in real space and it should be able to protect itself somewhat and be durable.

AND:

What targets would you raid first? (remember, you aren't Thrawn or Warlord Zsinj, so you might not actually want to draw too much attention at first!)

AND:

What ships and other things would you focus on?

Hopeful science fiction shows without asshole characters made in the last 10-20 years?

Hey guys,

I have just binge watched my most liked shows (which I all have on DVD!):

- Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis

- Star Trek (TNG, DS9 and Voyager!)

- JAG (Yeah, I would normally not watch a crime investigation-show, but if you bring in fighter jets, aircraft carriers, submarines etc. you have my interest!)

- Babylon 5 (Best science fiction TV-Show so far IMHO)

And now I want new stuff to watch, but what I don't want is stuff like (New) Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Nu-Trek, Stargate Universe etc. because I am neither into religious stuff (I can take it when it's shown like in DS9 - so one of the major characters is religious and the others accept it, even if they think it a little cooky) or personal drama that was not needed (I call it having asshole characters, who would rather snipe at each other, harm or even try to kill each other, rather than be professional, work together and agree to disagree if they aren't of the same opinion!).

Are there any such shows (so hopeful, bright future shows - hell, I'd accept dystopias, too if the characters aren't dickheads! - with the characters being professionals!) left? At best science fiction, but I'll also watch good fantasy and also military (JAG, The E-Ring, The Last Ship etc.) and spy-craft stuff (like say 'La Femme - Nikita').

Were there any shows in the last 10-20 years that are not full of asshole characters and unnecessary personal drama? Especially science fiction?

Hey guys,

I've recently binge watched my old shows like Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1, Star Trek TNG, DS9 and Voyager and JAG (have most of them on DVD, because I am very old fashioned that way!) and now I would love to watch some new stuff - at best science fiction and fantasy (military stuff is also ok, but soap operas and similar stuff aren't my cup of tea! So no stuff like 'Friends', 'Two and a Half Men', 'Big Bang Theory', 'How I met your mother', 'Sex and the City' etc. etc...just don't like that!) - but, what I don't want is basically stuff like (new) Battlestar Galactica, Stargate Universe, Lost, Nu-Trek etc. so stuff full of unlikable (I even go so far as to call them asshole characters!) characters that will rather hurt each other and snipe at each other etc. than work together like professionals!

Seriously, Star Trek from the 90s had that, sure the characters sometimes disagreed, but they usually didn't make the leap of "my commanding officer disagrees with me, so I have to hurt and/or kill him!"...no, they grumbled, they complained a bit and then they did their job! Same for Stargate SG-1 (Daniel Jackson and Colonel O'Neill often disagreed, but they didn't hate each other! In fact they respected each other and were good friends!)

Are there any such shows left that came out in the last 10-20 years that I might not have seen?

ps: No, I don't care that all this abuse and sniping at each other is supposedly "more realistic" - it is not, because if it were, then people would fall to burnout even more than they are (getting beaten down, abused and bullied every day for months to years? That is not healthy at all!)

Hey guys,

I am in need of a good VENTING.

I just lost my "good" computer (Laptop from 2023 - frankly I am also quite sure that it started breaking when I tried installing Linux on it, but on the other hand an OS can normally not damage the hardware, so coincidence? Maybe? Don't truly know!) and I am thus (can't afford the current prices without saving up!) stuck on a 2019 laptop.

So, I looked into putting spyware 11 (also known as Windows 11) on it, but without secure boot? Yeah, can't!

So I went Linux, first with Nobara which worked for a while and then they decided to remove support for older Nvidia GPUs...the laptop has a 1070, so yeah, Nobara was deleted, tried Mint next...ran fine for desktop stuff, but games didn't run at all, not even games from the era (so not new stuff!), so I deleted MINT and installed CachyOS...and that's where it started to annoy me.

Firstly it started to constantly dismount my external drives, sure they run on NTFS, because frankly there is stuff on them that I don't want to delete (I also don't want to be stuck on Linux in the future!)...this I seem to have fixed (I needed that god-forsaken piece of ancient history, that gives me MS-DOS-TRAUMA, known as "the Terminal" - I know Linux-Power-Users and Server-Admins swear by it, but I frankly don't like the terminal...hell, yes I sometimes used CMD on Windows, but it was once every 3-4 months, often even less on Linux you need this thing constantly!)

Ok, next I tried installing my USB (Wavlink) External-Graphics-Adapter...yeah, at first it didn't want to use the driver that was for another distro (there is no driver for Arch or Cachy!), then I convinced it to install it with a work around (via the Terminal again - I am starting to see a pattern here!)...yeah, it's installed now, it has the order to start on boot-up and it does NOTHING! Screens are still BLACK! Have given up for now.

But today it did the worst things yet: Firstly it disabled Dolphin (the file-manager, so what the Explorer is for Windows - but in Windows, I'd simply open Task-Manager and shut the sucker down HARD and then restart it!) and even the "almighty Terminal" didn't work...had to use a reset-point, but ever since that, it won't open the package manager (it insists that another is already running - but according to the task-manager of CachyOS there is NOTHING)

WHAT A GREAT PIECE OF SOFTWARE! SO GREAT IT MAKES ME WANT TO BARF/PUKE! If I could summon Linus Torvalds right HERE, I WOULD and then I'd share a piece of my mind about this software that was built upon his original Kernel!

Seriously, I am SICK OF IT! Anybody willing to donate 1K to me so I can purchase a decent refurbished laptop? :( (Note, don't take this seriously, most of you have your own struggles with stuff like rent and other cost of living things!)

EDIT: Why can't this have nice little .EXE-Files to install stuff? :(

EDIT2 - The newer laptop was from 2023 (typing mistake!), now corrected!
