Player has download speed limited when using his main pc but not his laptop. Ideas on why or similar experiences?

[System Agnostic]

Just crowd sourcing some ideas.

His download speed only for Foundry, only on his main PC is being limited to 5.3 Mbps. If he goes on another website, or another device his speed is normal, peaking to 80 Mbps. On his laptop Foundry's dl speed will peak at 68 Mbps.

We've tested with just him on the server. Persists.

Same exact thing with Chrome and Edge, haven't tried on non chromium browser, but I don't think thats the issue.

He is also a DM, but obviously it's different because then he's hosting. It's just the one of the unique factors about him from the other players. But still, I wonder if there's some setting he changed he forgot about when he was host.

He is the only one from the UK, but another player in Germany isn't having the same issue. And the issue persists when using a VPN.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any diagnosing tips or ideas on what it could be causing this?

Update: He also has a player that loads in slowly. SAME ISSUE. Download speed limited to 5.8 Mbps. This is an issue that's common and being written off as, get better internet.

Why is the Walmart version half the cost of the one I got at REI

I’m about to return and swap unless there’s a legitimate reason to cost twice as much. They look exactly the same. The color is nicer with the REI, but not twice the price nice lol

30 years old, finally went camping last weekend with a bunch of borrowed gear. Had so much fun I bought some used stuff and went again last night

Night and day camping on a Tuesday vs the weekend on a campground.

Weekend I have mixed feelings. People… made some new friends but at the same time so many other groups came up to party. Music blasting until midnight. Lights pointed towards my tent so bright I have spots in my eyes.

Yet, undeniably I was bit by the love of the outdoors. How satisfying a fire feels. The meals, the feeling of planning and forethought working out.

Scrolled through Facebook market and found an old tent for sale. Was too excited to wait for the weekend so drove up after work and woke up early enough to make it back.

Same campground. There was maybe one other group out there? Such a different vibe. Almost creepy. I forgot to grab a picture of my new(to me) tent. lol

But wow. I’ve been cheating myself. Life itself feels different. I’m usually such a shut in but now I feel so different

Also I got a Coleman stove and a dehydrated peach cobbler from REI. Holy shit. Why am I packing a grill when camping food is so delicious.

I’ve been watching YouTube videos all day on how to pack better. Feels like I have way too much in my car when I go.

I know the movie starts with Penelope saying we’re not telling the story of Troy, I still looked for a sign that one of these men was Achilles.

Also before this scene, when they were holding the gate, the first Spartan(?) to get stabbed a bit out of sight in the bushes; Up until him dying I was thinking he was Achillies and was going to solo a few Trojans and disappear lol

The Siren Scene should have gotten a modern rewrite like the cyclops scene

The cyclops rewrite kept the tone grim. Odysseus portrayed in this movie wasn’t some scrappy hero with a silver tongue. Not true to the original, but I understand and I liked the change

Later we hit the mast scene.

Was I the only one that felt like it was a completely different character asking to be tied to a mast?

Where was the grim stoic leader trying to save his men from their fate against the gods? Who had been told that everyone on the boat but him is doomed.

Suddenly he’s some boyish adventurer. Smug and cocky about a danger they’re facing. It was so out of tone. It felt included for the sake of keeping with the original. I think the same justification should have been used to adjust it a bit.

I’m come to discover that almost no one has seen Atlantis

My job is similar to Ramirez so I bring up this movie every time I get asked what I do. I have yet to have a single soul recognize this movie.

I always assumed because it’s a Disney movie, everyone’s seen it. I continue to use it as an example because I’m waiting for a single person to recognize it lol

Was this not popular enough? Classic 2D animation. In fact, I realize Kida is never in the princess line ups. Despite being peak Disney era.

Funny vent: I grew up reading animorphs

I loved the series. Loved flipping the pages.

I was the oldest child, so parents careers were less established. So I read them all via the library, or those shops full of used items ran by old ladies that’d sell them for $1.50.

Never in order either. Just as they were found. Tobias was a shapeshifting hawk by the time I found out *why* he was a hawk.

I remember one day visiting home and my youngest sister was reading one of them. I got so excited. My mom took interest and with my help, we found the entire series on eBay for a reasonable price.

When it arrived it was beautiful. That box was everything tween me wanted. I was in awe picking them up and looking them over.

Months later when I swung by to visit again I asked how far into the series she’d gotten.

Hadn’t touched them. 😐

The curse of being the oldest is seeing your younger siblings have the childhood you wish you had and be ungrateful for it lol

Power hungry player sold his soul to another players warlock patron. Ideas to use this?

Running Curse of Strahd and this happened extremely early. They’ve barely left Barovia city and are at level 3.

For now I gave him a level 3 spell slot, but I think a soul would be worth more.

I’m thinking potential ideas… have a way for him to earn back his soul.

I was thinking giving him access to warlock spells but that stomps all over the warlock player’s thunder.

Power hungry player is a blade singer wizard.

His backstory is, he was an untrained wizard that worked at a magical college. Got access to some scrolls he shouldn’t have and summoned a demon. The demon killed his family and left him marked. Now he hungers for more power, he tells himself it’s for revenge.. but the hunger was always there.

How does Froopyland fit in the timeline

Rick talks about using a collapsed quantum tesseract to make it.

How does him making it fit in the timeline? He doesn’t seem to have that kind of tech pre Prime Rick.

Post Prime Rick she’s dead.

You can say he’s taking Prime Rick’s credit for making it but the dialogue doesn’t really lend for that to be true.

Was pre portal Rick powerful enough to create parallel planes of existence with breathable water?

I want to use something like Sheets/Excel for players to write and vote anonymously

My players wrote a tragic backstory for themselves. Then had their intro into the campaign be them facing the consequences of their past. Each heavily laced with details of their backstory while never revealing it

The vision/my goal:

Each player is given an individual google sheet with two pages. One page they fill out their best guess about what every other players traumatic backstory is.

Then on page two it is anonymously linked to everyone else’s page one entry for their guess on the sheet owners backstory.

Extra points if there is a way to have them vote on who is closest, and have that tallied automatically on a sheet I have access to.

A brief google search has me thinking sheets will be the best option. But I want to know if there is a better way to do this?

Edit:

10 minutes in I’m kind of surprised by the negativity of this community. I have an artistic vision that I’m asking for technical help to achieve and mostly been asked to justify why I want to do it. lol

So I don’t keep getting asked. We are all close friends and hid the entire character creation process from each other and went in blind. I helped everyone tailor their intro to instead of being, “we meet in a tavern,” to them living out the repercussion of their worst days before having their misery pull them into the realm of dread.

Yes it’s very atypical. Now everyone is having fun hinting at what their backstory is. What inspired their character development. They didn’t even know each others classes going in.

My idea I’m posting about I thought would be a fun way to start each session by giving whoever got the most votes inspiration.

It’s something I want to do and it’s ok if you don’t like it. I just need help crowdsourcing ideas on how to best pull it off technically.

As a DM how do you handle morality differences? I’ve been on the other side of an issue like this and it sucks

Running CoS and my players just finished the Doru encounter. 2 players got blood thirsty and wanted to slay him for being a monster. 2 players saw it as morally gray and wanted to at least talk to him. And one was stuck in the middle.

But with combat breaking out by the blood thirsty members, a choice felt forced to the “grey” players. Eventually Doru gets away because a party of level 2 players can’t exactly keep up with the healing factor of a spawn.

The players that didn’t want to kill him spoke to me after saying the party chemistry feels off. With 2 players being so blood thirsty they’re kind of taking agency of the group. But at the same time, if they don’t join the fight, they would also be taking over group agency.

This was session 2 of the campaign. How do you handle this? Force them to RP it out before engagement?

I understand the validity of both side’s opinions. And I’ve been on the other side of the same issue and felt like my PC didn’t belong to the party. I don’t want my players to feel like that.

My friend paid a lot for a custom character creation of his PC. I feel bad, we were happy for him until we looked into the artist’s other work and are pretty sure it’s all AI

“First draft”
“Final draft”

And then 3 images of the artist’s work that I think are a bit suspect

I have no problem with AI but i feel he was deceived. The rest of us literally used ai to make our characters and he wanted to go out of his way to put some money into a more ethical creation.

He then suggested we all get a group photo done. Which felt like a good way to support a real artist but looking at some of the work…

Like the arrows in the quiver don’t make sense.

I genuinely felt awful as we all said it gave AI vibes. And it’s been on my mind ever since

[System Agnostic/5e] - Is there a way to make a text box in chat that only players with a certain perception can see?

[System Agnostic]

I'm trying to make use of their different ability scores and make the ones that chose wisdom feel cool.

They're in the middle of combat and I want to drop a text bubble that only those with high enough passive perception can read to reveal "There a sound of hooves approaching you"

Does this exist? Are there better ways to handle this?

Is there a name/market for the export files of one shot/campaigns that someone put the work into putting together?

[system agnostic]

Example, I ran a heist one shot. I put in all the maps and enemies. Some hand outs and notes.

I realized why haven’t I seen it available where I could have just imported all this as a campaign file.

Why do people only sell the maps? And not just fully put together foundry files.

I’m about to run curse of Strahd and was hoping to skip all the steps of using the D&D Beyond importer and just outright buy a working module

AITAH for not brushing aside my past so my uncle can throw my grandma a big final birthday party? For not wanting to talk to my mom who is dying?

I [32M] just got off the phone with my uncle, wife is asleep and I'm stuck here staring at the void. I have no one to ask, no one to bounce ideas off of. There's so many layers to the call I just got.

Grandma has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. She helped raise me a lot and was definitely a safe haven from my abusive family. Parent's saw me as a tool, I feel like growing up she was the only adult that saw me as a child. Parents kicked me out at 14 and I bounced around a lot. She took me for the tail end of senior year of HS, gave me a place to stay until I graduated and then I bounced off again. She was sad I left and I'm sure she would have let me stay.

The Alzheimer wasn't even what my Uncle started the call with. My mom, whom I haven't spoken to in about 10 years isn't doing great either. No one knows exactly what's wrong, they think a stroke but she's not talking about it. Described it as "mentally disabled", can't drive. Huge hoarder now.

We haven't spoken because frankly, she was a failure as a mother. When police were called because how beat up I was showing up to school, she was upset with me for not hiding the bruises better. She always protected my father. When he started slapping my 2 year old sister and I, a 12 year old, would say that's not right... she would just lock herself away as he beat me up for speaking against the man of the house. I got kicked out at 14 because puberty was making it clear there's a countdown of me being an easy target.

There was a brief window 18-22, where I saw her as a fellow victim. She finally left my dad, because he cheated on her. I don't know... maybe she used to be a good person. But who I got to know in that window was someone that wasn't. She enjoyed being venomous. Our last ever time talking was at her fathers funeral. Whole family showed up. With this huge beaming smile, she's telling everyone how she has this priest friend who says, people should never get married until at least 26 ( I got married at 21). I just remember the joy on her face at watching me squirm. Her father dead not 20 feet away and she's here. digging into me. It was like a moment of clarity. I realized she was just as sick as him. I realized, she saw all the abuse, and apparently had it in her to leave. It just had to be for her. That's always who she was. I finally have someone that loves me, a semblance of normalcy. And here she is with a shallow pretense to be able to gossip disapproval.

So I just never reached out again. Didn't block her. She texted once I think, and I never replied. And that was it. Just like that, out of my life.

Now, 10 years later my uncle wants to throw a birthday party for my grandma in august. He hit me with this double whammy because he wants me and my mom to show up. He wants me to regrow a relationship with her. He wants years of abuse, brushed aside so he can have a complete party. I understand its dire. I offered to show up in the morning or the day before. But that's not enough.

I despise it. That's always how my past was treated. Brush it under the rug so it's not awkward.

And fuck... I'm processing that my mom might not even be there anymore. I'm processing the finality that how we left is how it'll always be. And the fact that I don't think I care? Of course I hoped that one day we'd magically get along, and I'd have a mother. But that was never who she was. That was never going to happen. I moved on long ago. I wish it was different but for that to be possible, she'd had to have been someone else. Realistically I imagined a reunion would be this heated thing where I'd confront her with all the things she turned a blind eye to.

Instead, she is a shell of who she used to be and I don't want to confront that. The grim face people give me when they talk about my moms condition. Why should I face it? Why does she get to abandon me, give me none of the support I needed growing, cower away so I'd be the punching bag and I'm still on the hook for the final chapter? And all this, so I show up to a stupid fucking party. A party full of people who saw me grow up covered in bruises. Who acknowledge I disappeared for years and kinda just haha it away. Who, when after years of not seeing me, always have a funny story of how mad my dad got over something trivial.

It's undeniably laziness, selfishness, hate and emotionally closing myself off. Is that really so wrong? Do I not get to do that?

But I'm scared. Will I regret it? I have no one to talk to because I surrounded myself with better people now. And my situation is such an alien concept to people who get say they love their mom. How do I ask friends for advice when they grew up in a different world than me. I'm sick of the reply, "But thats your mom." when I tell normal people I don't speak with her.

Has anyone faced a situation like this?

Just came back from a vacation in Hawaii and had they best kimchi of my life. I want to recreate it or something similar

It was at Ohana Karaoke Grill & Bar. It’s probably not a traditional Korean recipe since that’s supposed to be fermented, I think

This was fresh. Every bite tastes so good. Not too spicy, if at all

Please help me out here. Is there like a Hawaiian kimchi style that they were probably doing? I called and asked and they make it in house and… no they won’t share the recipe. Which is totally fair.

I just usually don’t like kimchi that much and here I loved it.

How many of you had the worst parent amongst your cousins?

My wife and I share the experience of having a sit down talk with an uncle.

The “I know your mom/dad is different, but you got to try harder on being a good kid for them” lol

Or the

“Yeah it sucks your mom/dad is so strict”
