Hair Advice

Hello everyone!

So recently after years of thinking my hair is low porosity I came to the conclusion (with some help of Reddit) that I may actually have very dry high porosity hair.Upon finding this out I think it’s time for a change of products and was hoping to come here and find some advice for easy, minimal product, low cost products.

This wash day I’ve recently tried a co-wash (Camille rose) for the first time as I thought that normal shampoos and clarifying shampoos were just further stripping my hair and making it frizzy. However, in my region that same co-wash is now quite expensive.
I saw an advert online for the KeraCare co-wash and was wondering if anyone with high porosity hair has tried or if there’s any other affordable alternatives.

I’ve also just finished a tub of the Camille Rose algae renew deep conditioner and was considering repurchasing but was wondering if this is a suitable option for high porosity hair.

Any other tips and help is welcome please 🙏😀

Natural hair help

Hi Reddit, I posted this message a couple of months ago

“I really need urgent help with my curly hair.

I’ve been natural for about 20 years, but my hair is consistently dry, brittle, and won’t grow past shoulder length. I suspect I have low porosity hair because it struggles to absorb and retain moisture. I’ve only straightened it twice in that entire time.

I usually let my hair air dry, but occasionally use a diffuser.

My current wash day routine:

Shampoo twice (usually in twists to reduce tangling)

Apply a deep conditioner and leave it on for about 15 minutes with a cap

Detangle, then rinse

Apply a leave-in conditioner, then oil on the ends

I recently switched products because my old routine wasn’t working. Right now I’m using:

Camille Rose Algae Renew Deep Conditioner

TGIN Leave-In Conditioner

Shea butter on the ends

I mostly keep my hair in twists for protection.

Products I’ve tried before include Knot Today Leave-In and other Camille Rose products, but I had the same issue—my hair might feel moisturised at first, but it quickly becomes dry and brittle again.

At this point I’m really struggling. No matter what I try, my hair won’t stay moisturised, and my ends stay dry and break off, so I can’t retain length even with protective styles.

Does anyone have advice for low porosity hair that won’t hold moisture? What am I doing wrong?”

Since then I’ve tried a lot of the advice such as using heat and deep conditioning with caps,I’ve also started taking supplements incase it’s deficiency related.I also tried blue magic like someone suggested however it gave me really bad forehead acne (despite regularly washing my scarves and bonnets).I’m so stuck now as I keep wasting money buying products that don’t work and I don’t finish and don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Any advice will be 🙏
(Especially for cheap and affordable products that are easy to access in the UK)
And any tips to make my life easier as I don’t have time to be doing my hair especially if it’s just going to end up dry and break off.

Starting/growing a poetry account

Hi
I’m starting an Instagram for my poetry after giving up on my first attempt. I’m really stuck on how to format my account as before I was using simple black text on a white background ,but I felt this had no identity.

I really wanted to use photos but I’m struggling on how to incorporate them as I don’t want it to take away from the poems.

My idea was to put the picture on the first slide followed by the poem on the second slide (I was also gonna copy
the poem into the caption).

Or I could put the poem over the image (however I’m unsure about how this will affect the readability).

For those who run poetry, writing, or literary accounts:

What format has worked best for you?
Do people actually swipe to read poems in carousels?
Is it better to put the poem over the image?
Should the full poem be in the caption as well?
Do you use music ?

Iron supplements

Hi,
I have natural type 4 hair and have been suffering for years with dry, brittle and broken hair.Despite, using a water filter and trying various products.I have come to the conclusion that it could potentially be due to an iron deficiency.

Does anyone have recommendations of iron supplements?
Does anyone know anything about iron bisglycinate?

Growing a poetry account organically

Hi everyone,

I recently started an Instagram account where I post my own poems.I decided to start it as I’ve been wanting to post them for years, I haven’t shared it with friends, family etc. as I’d like to let my work stand on its own.

At the moment my only real interactions seemed to be spam account and I’m finding it to difficult to reach an audience.

I understand that beginning may be slow especially in my situation but I’m not sure of I’m going about it right and it’s tempting to quit.

For those who have experience I have a few questions:

-How did you find genuine followers?
-Should I use music
-Should I rebrand (right now I’m just doing white black ground with black text)
-How often should I post
-Should I use hashtags

Anki help-I only want to do new cards but don’t know how.

Is there a way I can just do my new cards on Anki without having to do reviews or learning cards.I know you can make filtered decks but they don’t take the new cards away from my regular review schedule ?

Dying house plant

I bought this plant a couple of months ago.It was doing fine until I overwatered it before going on holiday.I came back to a plant with mushy roots and so I repotted and removed the dead leaves/rotten bit.Now only one healthy-ish leaf remains. Can it be saved or should I let it go ???

Hi everyone, I recently posted here asking for advice about my natural hair, and someone suggested I might have an iron deficiency.

I do often feel fatigued and sometimes lightheaded, so I’m wondering if that could be related. I’ve also noticed my hair is quite thin at the ends and poofy at the roots, even though I don’t use heat and have tried a range of different products.

I’ve attached some photos for reference. Does this sound like it could be an iron deficiency, or does anyone have other ideas or similar experiences?
