Numbers on grocery packages

Numbers on grocery packages

I got an SSD block with mostly groceries and noticed these numbers on the labels (circled in red in the photo). I thought, “great, they numbered them in order.” Nope. The numbers had no relevance whatsoever to the order of my stops. Two grocery bags going to the same address were numbered 5 and 13.

Also, why can’t they identify these in the app as Groceries and not just Envelope?

Text (and everything else) looks crappy on external monitor

I have an M3 MacBook Air. I'm doing some book design, which is challenging on the 13" screen, so I bought an external monitor. It's an Acer 27" FHD 920 x 1080. More specs here:

https://tinyurl.com/3yxvu84x

I plugged it into my MacBook (using an HDMI to USB-C adapter) and was stunned at how bad it looks. It seems especially bad in InDesign, which is why I'm posting here. I should add that the external monitor is passable at 200% magnification, but anything less than that (like viewing spreads) gives me a headache.

Am I just spoiled by my MacBook's Retina display, or is there something I'm doing wrong? I don't think I can use this monitor if this is as good as it gets, but I also can't afford an Apple display that's three times the cost of my computer.

Screenshots are of the same area, one on the external monitor, the other on the MacBook. You can see that even the guides look worse on the external display.

So which is it?

I know the app is notoriously bad for things like grammar and comprehension, but what doest his mean? I had no gate code at 4:30 in the morning and wasn't about to call the customer, so I marked the package undeliverable. Am I going to get dinged?

If I get the debit card, do I have to deposit ALL of my Flex earnings to it?

Basically the title. I think the debit card would be a great way to manage my discretionary spending. For example, I could put $300/month in there and that would be my walking around money for the month. So can I choose which payouts go to the card and which go to my bank?

It's a great time to have a swamp cooler!

This was first thing this morning after I got up in the middle of the night to turn it on (first time doing so this year - I usually only run it during the day). A glorious 70º. It will stay under 80º for the rest of the day.

Before you @ me with wAit Til AuGuSt, I also have AC. But I won't turn it on until I absolutely have to. I love having the windows open, hearing the birds outside, and basking in the indoor humidity. Oh, and the $45 electric bill.

If you have the means and the infrastructure, it's totally worth it to get a new swamp cooler installed. Or even a used one.

Would you have followed this itinerary?

All packages due well after block end time. I started with Stop 5 and worked my way down, but it felt like I spent a lot of time choosing the next stop. And after I mapped it out this way, there does seem to be a logic to it. What would you have done?

Disappointing experience at the Loft open air cinema

Maybe my expectations were too high, but I doubt I'll ever go back to the Loft's open air cinema. Here's why:

Sound: There are no speakers. They give you these cheap headphones like the ones you get on an airplane. I don't know if they have any sort of cleaning protocol for the headsets between patrons.

You plug the headphones into a little box that transmits the audio. My friend and I had to exchange our transmitters because they were so static-y. Other audience members were complaining of the same thing. The controls on the transmitters are non-intuitive – volume control is done with the left and right buttons instead of up and down. There are up and down buttons on the boxes, but I don't know what they're supposed to do. We had to keep turning on our phones' flashlights to see the buttons. During loud parts of the movie, the sound in the headphones is too loud, then you have to turn it back up during the quieter parts. I was constantly fiddling with the volume, and getting tangled up with the cord.

I was told they use the headphones because the Loft is in a residential area and the sound would disturb the neighbors. More than the cars racing down Speedway, though? And then there's the noise of the HVAC or some other generator-like machine that comes from behind the screen, so once again I had to keep tweaking the volume on my headset. Super annoying, and it took me out of the film's story.

Comfort: The area is outfitted with plastic Adirondack chairs that are low to the ground. Getting in and out of them is a chore if you have the slightest mobility restriction - I had to help my 87-year-old friend out of hers. She complained at how hard they were on her back as well. They're angled in such a way that you have to kind of tilt your head forward to see the screen, which gave me a stiff neck holding it in that position for two hours. If you tilt your head backwards and rest it on the back of the chair, you have to look down your nose to see the screen. Not great if you wear glasses. There are some hard plastic benches in the far back that are marked as handicapped/disabled seats. I can't imagine they're much better.

The floor is covered in shaggy astroturf. I'm not sure if it's actually adhered to the floor - it kind of felt like it was bunched up in areas. Hard to navigate for my elderly friend.

I love going to outdoor movies because it's a communal experience, and you take the ambient noise and weather as part of the deal. Sitting in an enclosed area that's only open on top, where everyone has their own audio in their headphones is isolating rather than communal.

By the time I bring a pillow for my back, another for my head, my own noise-cancelling headphones, and my own snacks (they wanted $10 for a 1/4 cup of ice cream!), I might as well stay home.

tl;dr It's not really "open air," the sound is shitty, the chairs are uncomfortable, and you might trip on the astroturf.

Different wait message?

This is different than the “this shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes” message. Is it new, or does it mean something different?

Do you have to use the parking app? I got a ticket but the meter wouldn't take my coins

Pulled up in front of the Co-op yesterday and tried to plug a quarter into the meter. It took my coin, but didn't register on the meter. I was popping in to get one thing, and it would have taken me longer to deal with the parking app than it would to get that one thing. Welp, I got a ticket. $40!

I'm wondering if it's worth it to contest. They can't force people to use the app, right? Not everyone has a smart phone.

I stopped for breakfast in the middle of my block - is that ok?

I had what turned out to be an easy route yesterday morning, and above base pay. 45 packages, 3.5 hours, but very close to the station and to one another. When I realized I was going to finish it 90 minutes early, I decided to go have breakfast before the last delivery. I figured I didn't want Amazon to know the block could be accomplished in two hours, and I was planning to go out for breakfast afterwards anyway. Will the hour between the 44th and 45th packages be a red flag? Or am I good? Everything was delivered well on time.
