High earners who are targeting leanfire

I earn around 250k but targeting a pretty lean retirement by no later than 35 (unless ai destroys tech jobs, then I might be delayed by a bit, would need to coast a bit first)

Ive started dating recently, but it seems to be very hard to find someone financially aligned. Everyone i met has massive lifestyle creep, the most i see people do is just max 401k

Dating is awful

Its essentially hundreds of men competing for women. Feels worse that while you may rarely get a match, you never have women liking you first.

ULPT Request: maximizing unemployment

State: NJ

So, I retired a few months ago, at 33, not by choice. My team got sacked a year ago, but I was the only one spared. I got placed on another team, and within 7 months, that team got sacked, this time, nobody was spared. I got a nice severance and claimed unemployment. During this time, i realized, I'm pretty set to just retire, I have a sizable amount of investments and I have quite a simple and low cost lifestyle. But, some extra income would help offset market volatility risks early on into retirement.

I thought about just practicing leetcode and just working another year or two just to clean up my mortgage a bit, but figured I'd ask. Also cause AI and not having to interview for over 6 years made me a bit rusty. What is stopping me from taking some shitty retail job, doing nothing, getting fired, and collecting some unemployment again?

Any ways to minmax this?

FIRE is for poor people

I never thought about it until realizing nobody I work with is interested in FIRE and the only person I know who is looking to retire early is just like me, born to working class immigrant parents. While everyone else seems to not care. Families are upper middle class and they will be able retire with inheritance. I would always be under the impression that everyone would want to build stability and safety to not rely on a job that might vanish tomorrow, but when you parents are stacked, your income, just doesn't matter

For a lot of these people, they can retire whenever they want. Anyone born to wealth doesn't pick their major based on earnings or job stability, they do what they want because money just doesn't matter

Political risks for the market?

Not really a discussion on politics. But you can't pretend it doesn't exist

Personally, I'm left leaning. But I'm more moderate because of my economic views, which are self serving.

Generally, it doesn't matter which party wins because both have a vested interest in the stock market. However, there is a slight shift happening towards democratic socialists, who don't care about the stock market and would not be beneficiaries of its success.

Just wondering if anyone else thinks this might end causing short term risks for anyone looking to retire within a few years.

Bank Account optimization?

I have been with sofi for a while now, but figured i might as well ask, what is the most optimal bank account for pure monetary benefit

highest interest rate, maybe some kind of cashback on spend, 'overdraft protection' (aka, will pull from the savings account when there is a charge to empty checking account, so that i can keep checking account empty).

dont care for physical branches, rarely if ever will need to use cash.

There are no homebodies in NYC

Seems every profile I see, involves travel, prompt is always 'give me travel tips for', or she mentions she is looking for a travel companion.

I think the problem is that at my age (30) all my fellow local new yorkers are already taken, while the transplants are all big travelers

Yuta Okkotsu cosplay

where would you recommend I get it from? this is my first cosplay. I see a set on aliexpress and the same one on Amazon for a bit more. on a scale of abysmal to 10, how does it look? Any alternatives that wouldn’t just be a dropshipping store?

realistically I just need his jacket (pants can just be black joggers, I have a katana, a simple ring, white sneakers, hair I can style to match). the aliexpress/amazon one looks janky and it’s not something I can easily create with regular clothes.

Katana on the subway?

Ok so dumb question. I moved out from my parents and been mov*ng some small items every time I visit them. All the major stuff I moved, so just some small items left. Just bouncing from their place in brooklyn to work in midtown, and taking the path to my place in jersey city after work. (obviously wouldn't commute to work with it)

Now, one of the items is a katana, it's a janky one, like it's sharp but not like some antique official made in japan one. But I wanna bring it over since I'll use it for some cosplay photos. I'll keep as discrete as I can, but I'm effectively carrying a weapon, I'd rather not book a $100 uber to transport some $50 sword. But what's the policies around that. I don't want police called on me lmao

Sorry for censorship, the sub blocks that word

Dating and marriage

Bit of info, I live in a VHCOL area with high property taxes, but my lifestyle is very lean outside of housing

So, I'm in a very unusual position, I'm almost 30, but have saved up a bit over 1m, and over 300k paid down in principal on a condo worth about 900k. Also, since my timeline is longer, I want a larger buffer

I've been aggressively saving to retire. Like, I spend nothing besides living expenses. I've had effectively no travel, nothing. My collective "fun budget" ends up being like $50 a month, which is usually just milk tea/matcha

I avoided relationships, because for a long time, I was confident I didn't want a relationship. But I'm starting to feel like I may want a life partner. The hard part is, I don't think many people will be on the same pace at my age. I'm mostly planning to stay at my current job and when I get laid off (hopefully not earlier than 2 years) I plan to be retired. I don't really want to compromise on that, but it's hard to find someone who has a similar low cost lifestyle but also a high income. Most people with professional careers, seem to have pretty extravagant lifestyles.

Not sure if anyone has been in my position

675k in brokerage

320k in ira/401k

30k in roth

My first major milestone. Technically I'm not actually at 1m, I have 550k left on my mortgage. But I consider that as housing cost rather than debt.

I didn't come from wealth but my biggest advantage was good parents and free college. in my city, if your parents don't make above a certain income, financial aid will cover your tuition/fees (not dorms though, its a commuter school, nobody dorms). So I got to live at home, save nearly 100% of part time income. Then after I graduated, I lived at home for another 2 years with about 30k/year in expenses and a new job. (99% of that was just helping them pay off mortgage and helping with bills). The job was 85k a year, so not enough to move out anyway. After I got another new job, I was making 150k, so I moved out and shortly afterwards, I bought a condo. Income gradually increased to 225k over the years. And with the stock market going insane, I have joined the 2 comma club!
