My Ranking of all the bosses

My Ranking of all the bosses

Beat the game on expert mode no summons. Almost no consumables and except for a couple no phantom mode as well.

I used the spear, early game just mix match, mid game i stuck to fallen lords and at the end i used faded memories to beat the final boss.

My highest death count was on Ozma, around high 20s. But that is pretty inflated cause i quit the game for a few days in between due to some irl issues. Second highest would be maluca at around 12. And least is Elamein at 0. I had a lot of fun with this game.

Edit: mb on the typo 😭

Bai Wuchang will be returning as the protagonist for the sequel

In a recent interview with Xia Siyuan, a lot of questions have been answered. You can read throught the article yourself here

https://www.gamersky.com/news/202608/2181602.shtml

But the main question that had me hooked was the fact wuchang will feature the same protagonist. Now this will probably have quite a few story implications, primarily which ending will they consider canon. I believe it should be true ending.

Honestly itll be funny seeing people who got the jar ending playing the sequel.

So i played beast of reincarnation - first impressions (5 hours in)

First things first, yes the game feels heavily inspired by stellar blade. The opening sequence itself feels too similar.

Now, holy unskippable cutscenes? That can be rather annoying, althought i do usually follow the story, having the option to not do that is a huge quality of life improvement.

The parry is decent. But id keep it at that only. The timing feels generous , a little too generous for me. But that might be a little biased since im used to sekiro, khazan etc.

Performance felt not the best, im on a 5070ti laptop gpu, intel ultra 9, and with dlss on i was hitting consistent 120 fps on medium-high settings. But yes 1% lows and the raw performance is not that great. Theres also lag present everytime you load into a new zone.

The art direction is pretty good. Infected wildlife as a concept works very well visually.

Movement is decent, using roots for height instead of a short jump adds a lot of verticality but, for me so far exploration has been rather unrewarding.

Story so far has been rather uninteresting for me, and the pacing felt wrong, especially the gaps between combat sections.

There is no visual customization, although armors exist they do not affect the visuals in the slightest. This felt rather lazy and uninspired.

Boss fights are fun, The combat is decent but none of them are good enough to overshadow the flaws.

Id give it a 6/10 all things considered. But im only 5 hours in and it can get better. Still so far the game has been just.... mediocre. Its fine? But not great. In terms of fun, despite the pretty visuals, i usually have more fun with smaller indie soulslikes compared to this. So yes, from my end, not recommended.

Which souls game has the best atmosphere?

When i play souls games, other than boss design/combat mechanics, the atmosphere has to be the thing i look for the most.

Atmosphere for me is a combination of environmental storytelling, level design, art direction, music (or the lack of it) and sound design.

This makes the world feel worth exploring. I love the atmosphere of bloodborne, ds3 feels like its a world on the brink of death and sekiro, althugh much more grounded shows the decline of ashina. Elden ring, is massive in scale. Amongst soulslikes, wuchang has to be my fav, followed closely by lies of p. Bleak faith does the enviornment right but falls short in the level design imo.

If you had to pick one game with the strongest atmosphere what would you pick?

Saddest Boss?

Souls games and soulslikes, have a lot of great bosses with terrific stories. Some are incredibly sad.

Fromsoft obviously nails enviornmental storytelling the best. My favourite from their games would be Sif, The good boy.

But some non fromsoft games have done a great job too, romeo from LoP would be a great example of this.

Whats your pick out of all of them? And if you had to pick one non-fromsoft boss who would it be?

Whats a soulslike you genuinely hope gets a second chance?

We often get a lot of smaller budget games, that arent very well recieved.

Usually these games, albeit flawed, do some things very well. It may be the combat, the world design maybe. And with bigger budgets a lot of these issues can be mediated. Giving a very promising soulslike.

In recent days , we have Mortal shell 2 coming up. Mortal shell was pretty janky, had some overly powerful combat mechanics. But the sequel has definetly eliminated them. And its shaping up to be a 7/10 at least judging from the beta. We also have LoTF 2 coming up

So what soulslike do you think deserves a sequel?

My picks would be enotria.

Off track but a khazan sequel with good level design would be sooo fun. Unfortunately thats impossible.

Do you guys prefer parry based or dodge based soulslikes?

Weve had a lot of soulslikes, but broadly, they are all either parry heavy or dodge heavy.

Which kind do you prefer more?

Out of fromsoft catalogue, its basically a sekiro vs ds

And non fromsoft, khazan vs wuchang

I personally find parrying a more fun mechanic. I like the concept of clashing swords with a boss.

Which game had the best version of a parry mechanic?

Weve seen a lot of games have parry mechanics, especially soulslikes, what is your favourite implementation of it? And why?

Heres my ranking of some of the ones ive played and thoroughly enjoyed

  1. Khazan (lightly biased cause i just love the combat of this game)

  2. sekiro (the rhythm is great and nailing consecutive parrying is so satisfying)

  3. lies of P (the parry feels heavier here, which i do like)

  4. nine sols (the sekiro of 2d metroidvanias XD)

  5. Surge 2 (crimimally underrated, the directional parry is so cool)

Honorable mention, not a soulslike but Ghost of Tsushima, this game's combat is one of my favourties, the parry feels so good.

So dinoblade just released!

your thoughts on the game? i loved the demo and i think it is underrated. Has a very cool take and i love parrying as a massive spino XD.
if you have played the game what do you think of the boss design, levels, enemy variety etc?

DS3 Made soulslikes fun for me again

So i started ds3 again. Recently, soulslikes have become nothing but challenge markers for me. While playing each game ive just been thinking what challenge can i self impose.

In stellar blade it was hard mode ng, in surge 2, getting every piece of gear etc etc. And ive been forcing myself to do these arbitary checklists even when im not having as much fun. And lately the feeling of accomplishment is not hitting the same either. After finishing surge 2, which i did find to be a great game, i thought lets go back to the roots to ds3 before mortal shell 2 launches.

And ive again fallen in love with the genre. This time im not doing any sl1 or anything, just having fun, exploring, and honestly, now with a busier life, this has become so much more refreshing.

I know ill do challenges still, but theyll definetly be less frequent from now on.

Which weapon type do you prefer the most in souls games.

With the mainline fromsoft games and tons of other soulslikes, We've seen a lot of weapon variety, but most of them fall into some broad categories, like swords, twin swords, hammers, spears etc.

Which type of weapon do you like the most? Why? And which weapons are your favourites?

Id say for me thats definitely the greatsword. I like my combat feeling heavy. My personal favourites would be Pale Knight from LoP, Hollowed Greatsword in Ds3, Blasphemous Blade in Elden Ring. I also enjoyed the longsword in wuchang a alot.

My review of mortal shell and a pretty different question

So i just finished mortal shell.

Overall id rate it a 6.5/10, for a small budget game id say 8.5/10 for sure.

I did love the bosses. The final boss was pretty challenging.

I didn't include haedern into my boss rankings as the 4 base ones would simply be in B tier for me. And the axatanna one in A

My biggest critique would be the lack of complexity in the combat and the jankiness. But after finishing the demo for the sequel id say that concern is gone.

So yess im probably gonna go for mortal shell 2 on day 1 as im hyped asf for it.

Now for the other question. So i recently bought a medieval helmet due to my love for soulsborne and soulslike games in general and i wish to create some content purely as a fun hobby, nothing monetary. And the game i wanna cover first is likely mortal shell 2 (or valor mortis but thats a big maybe)

So what kind of content would you like to watch im just looking for ideas at the moment honestly.
