My landlord is selling the house and I have nowhere to go in three weeks
I got a letter yesterday saying the house I've been renting for the past two years is being sold. The new owners want it vacant, so I have until the end of next month to move out. I wasn't given any warning before this, no conversation, nothing, just the letter taped to my door when I got home from work.
I live alone and I don't have family nearby I can stay with temporarily. My lease doesn't end for another five months, but apparently there's a clause about the property being sold that lets them end it early with notice, and I didn't even know that clause existed until I actually sat down and reread the whole thing last night.
I make enough to cover rent somewhere else, but not enough to cover a new deposit, first and last month's rent, and moving costs all at once with only three weeks to save or figure it out. Every apartment I've looked at so far either wants a 650+ credit score, which I don't have because of some old medical debt, or wants proof of income that's higher than what I currently make.
I've started applying to a few places today but haven't heard back from anyone yet. I'm trying not to panic but I keep running the numbers in my head and they don't add up no matter how I look at it.
If anyone has been through something like this, especially with a short notice move and tight finances, I could use advice on what to actually prioritize first. I don't even know if I should be calling a lawyer about the notice period, or just focus all my energy on finding a place fast.
